cat dads are back and here's a little context:
aaron loves lying about being allergic to cats because he doesn't want to admit that he loves being around cats that neil of all people is raising. he was in charge of bringing them food when neil and andrew were out of town (it was actually an excuse to spend some time with them, since nicky or kevin could have done it) but they came back earlier and caught him red-handed lol

Neil and Jean are on the same professional exy team. They win a particularly difficult game thanks to their extraordinary (and rare, because they "hate" each other but are also almost always together) rapport. They're both assigned to do press service because they're the star players of the night.
Jean keeps quiet because he knows it's going to be a disaster and refuses to contribute to it. Besides, Neil already speaks for both of them.
Someone tells Neil that it's obvious he gets along well with his team. Jean knows this is a lie. Luckily, the Oregon Dragonflies are as easygoing as the Trojans, so they politely tolerate Neil. The same can't be said of Neil and them.
"Well, a team is sort of like a family. Sometimes you get a dangerous and hateful family, and other times, you get competent and tolerable people," Neil says.
Jean puts a hand to the bridge of his nose. He's never been good with the press, but even he knows that what Neil says sounds incredibly insulting to his team, even if he thinks he's flattering them in some way.
"Don't you think your teammates are tolerable?" someone asks.
"I was on the Foxes with Kevin Day. If I could put up with him, I can put up with anything." Jean looks at Neil. He thinks of his own hands squeezing his neck to calm himself for having thrown him to the lions. Neil seems to notice his look, because he decides to finish the play. "I'd tell you to ask Jean if you don't believe me, but he was with the Ravens, so his perception of what constitutes a tolerable team is seriously altered."
"Tu ne peux pas parler des gens intolerables, sale tique" says Jean, unable to control himself.
"Oh, but he came to his senses a bit with the Trojans. Jeremy Knox is definitely easier to put up with than Kevin. Isn't he, Jean?"
And Jean can't take it anymore.
He hits Neil on the back of the neck. It's loud, hard, and it resonates through the microphone. Neil flinches a little, surprised, and all they can hear are the flashbulbs taking hundreds of pictures of the moment.
Neil stares at Jean, his eyes wide open.
Jean puts a hand to his mouth, processing the fact that he just hit Neil on the back of the neck on national television. There's only one thing Jean can do now. He leans closer to the microphone.
"I want it on record that I didn't want to go into the press room with him because… he's crazy," he says, very, very nervous.
Neil screams.
"He attacked me, you saw him!"
"Oh my God! Can't you keep quiet, not even underwater?" Jean says.
"You know I don't do that!" Neil yells.
It's Jean's moment to open his eyes wide.
The team captain and coach interrupt the session and rush them out of the press room, shouting, "NO, NO, NO, NEVER AGAIN!"
Jean's blow to Neil's neck becomes a meme. They call it the "French Slap."

Jeaneil’s dynamic is such that if any of the Trojans ever ask when was the last time Jean spoke to Neil, he undoubtedly says some shit like, “I go to great lengths to avoid speaking to that devil child more than is absolutely necessary,” but then like a week later his housemates get into an argument in the kitchen while Jean is doing homework on his laptop and he suddenly goes, “You may not want to discuss that here; I am on a Skype call with Neil.” Laila turns to him, incredulous, because “I thought you didn’t speak to him??” but Jean just answers very seriously, “We are not speaking.”

au where a year or two after leaving baltimore, mary and neil end up skirting the south coast of france. maybe they had been somewhere in the uk where mary’s family could provide them with support and resources but some of nathan’s men came looking so they fled. and mary took them to small coastal towns where no one would think to look for them.
it’s in one of these towns, that neil meets a little boy whose grey stormy eyes look just as haunted as his own. he knows that hollow look. he knows that he is wearing it even with brown contacts on. in the months that they stay there, neil learns to run on the beach with this boy and his little sister, learns to appreciate the caress of a sea breeze through his growing hair as he stands shoulder to shoulder with someone his age. neil recognizes the way that boy limps sometimes, the way his lanky limbs shrink in on bad days and he tries to make himself small. he doesn’t need to look to know that there are bruises littering the boy’s skin. and though mary keeps telling him not to get too close, he can’t help it. scraped knees don’t hurt as much if they’re matching wounds with someone else.
mary wants to move on soon enough. she has seen the way her son is becoming attached to this town and that boy and she knows the dangers of that. she can see the way people leave that boy and his family alone, the unspoken guarded edge that surrounds those involved in unsavory business like hers. so she starts packing them up, hiding it from her son until the day of before telling him that they’re leaving. but neil doesn’t fall in line and comply like he should. he cries and narrowly contains a tantrum and mary knows she screwed up. this can never happen again. because neil is begging for them to stay or begging for his little friend to come with them, prattling on about heavy hands and protection. and shouldn’t he know? shouldn’t he realize how foolish he is being? that boy can’t come with them. she can hardly protect the two of them and besides, she doesn’t need yet another mouth to feed, yet another set of papers to procure, yet another gang family after her. so she does her best to quiet him and drags him out of town that night, her hand turning his head forward as he keeps gazing over his shoulder.
it’s the last time that neil makes a friend on their endless journey. mary had lectured him for hours on end about the dangers of connection on the train away from that city. each time he find himself getting too close, he pulls away and spends his solitude thinking of grey eyes, wavy black hair, and a boy that mirrored his pain. it feels less lonely knowing he’s out there somewhere. it feels less lonely keeping that boy locked away in his heart for company.

when jeremy crashes out, I need jean to take such good care of him that jeremy cannot deny how much jean adores him and how high of a regard jean has for him. he’s so unused to a man caring about him that isn’t a friend or one of his coaches. imagine his crash out and the aftermath and jean holding jeremy and helping him wash his face after he cries his heart out, if it’s in no other way than to give jeremy a clean washcloth. jean getting jeremy some of his clothes to borrow while jeremy showers. jean grabbing one of jeremy’s favorite snacks from the cupboards and bringing it to jeremy once he’s dressed and sat down, even if it’s a treat jean doesn’t agree with because it’s too sugary. jean sitting beside jeremy and knocking their knees together and helping jab up to sit with them. jean letting jeremy lean against him and taking his weight. the two staying like that and jean quietly —finally— telling jeremy about marseielle. about the beaches and the daffodils and the fields he used to chase elodie through. jean answering jeremy’s quiet questions, hating how hoarse jeremy’s voice is from sobbing but not commenting on it. jean taking care of jeremy but also just being there with him. and finally, after who knows how long of waiting, they lace their fingers together and no, it’s not time for their first kiss. no, it isn’t anything outright romantic. it’s just two boys who just so happen to love each other basking in each other’s presence and finding comfort and security in the other. two broken pieces fitting together in a way that doesn’t make their edges sharper, but instead duller. it’s jean taking care of jeremy but also finding great relief in knowing that jeremy can stay, he can stay— this can be jeremy’s home now. with him, and cat and laila, and the little mutt asleep in jeremy’s lap. and jeremy, once he’s slept and felt better, can find a spark of hope in that, too. and he will, after jean helps him to bed and promises to sit with him until he falls asleep. anything jeremy asks for that night, of course jean will give him, and more. everything.

It's 2025, can we agree that you can be straight and LGBTQIA+ finally? Or is the concept of asexual straights and straight trans people still too complex for this world?
Not aimed at the community as a whole of course but some of y'all gotta stop being so uppity about straight people existing within the community.

Hi! Here to contribute to the Adi/Rhemann posting by saying they’re so that trend on Tik tok where it’s like “my boyfriend wants to show u his plants so u BETTER be nice”. And then the boyfriend shows the plants 🫡
(hello<333333)
OH MY GOD YES THEY ARE 😭 I can just picture Rhemann being so damn PROUD he finally managed to figure out gardening and showing off his plants and his vegetable patch to ALL their guests, and Adi in the background with a ridiculously pleased expression but also with iron in his eyes, because "this man has spent years trying to perfect this and if someone dares mock him for it" 🔪
They wouldn't of course, because the circle of their closest friends in the know is safe, BUT I can just see how Adi's the unexpectedly feral protector at times, because James is so sweet and so precious to him, and anyone who dares touch him better watch out!!!

full believer that the reason kevin day has such a shit name is because his actual name is caoimhín (pronounced either kee-vin or kwee-vin) but tetsuji and riko didn’t fw it so they changed it to kevin instead like how jeans name was changed from jean-yves. like you CANNOT convince me kayleigh day named her child kevin…
