I've been playing a lot of Evil Dead the Game lately. I took a break for a few months but now the obsession's back. But, while I'm busy running my ass across the map trying to fix Knowby's mistake, I think a lot about the characters in the context of the game universe. (my sister and I love to RP the game universe so I'm always getting into the characters' heads)

I was playing AvED Ash, which got me thinking about Pablo, Kelly, and Amanda getting to meet the previous versions of Ash. Getting to see how he's been damaged and changed by it all.

I think about the three of them knowing just the goofy, lazy, party animal Ash from their time. How they meet Baby Ash (The Evil Dead Ash) and he's just a massive sweetheart. He's playful and optimistic if a little skittish and passive. Softspoken and almost shy. He's nice to talk to if a little dumb and a pushover whenever Scotty's around. Always helpful and protective of his baby sister. This makes the Ghostbeaters wonder how the fuck that turned into the Ash they know and love.

Next, they get to meet Hunter Ash (Evil Dead 2 Ash). He's nice but a little off, almost manic. Something's not quite right. He's gung ho and polite, even playful. But his smile is sad and doesn't reach his eyes. He talks about the power of light and love, how it'll keep them safe. But the more they talk to him, the less alright he seems. Little things here and there slip out that make The Ghostbeaters realize this Ash might be a little suicidal. White-knuckling life out of pure spite. And even though they know he lives long enough to grow old, they're still all worried about him. They try to talk to him, try to remind him that he has new friends and some of his old friends have returned. He smiles and laughs and offers them a Shemp's but the laughter is a little dead already. Hunter Ash still has his right hand.

And then, things take a hard downward turn as they meet AoD Ash for the very first time.

Suddenly, the Ghostbeaters can't see a single scrap of the Ash they love in this one. This man is angry. Jaded and bitter. The steel gauntlet when his right hand used to be is a painful reminder of the trauma Ash has truly gone through. His eyes are dead besides the anger that fuels his every waking breath. He's not just angry but cruel. His remarks cut to the bone. He snaps at people and jeers at them. Tells them to stop fucking up, that they have a job to do. He snarls at Baby Ash for being weak and cowardly. Scolds Hunter Ash for being fake and useless. And sneers in disgust at AvED Ash for being a pathetic waste. He scares Pablo and Kelly. They can't handle being near him. Even Amanda feels uneasy around him. This is not the man she loves, it can't be.

AoD Ash doesn't really talk to many people, always standing away from the group. Spending most of his time with Annie Knowby or Henry the Red. The Ghostbeaters don't know them that well but both seem too nice to be so close to that Ash. And yet, Pablo points out how AoD Ash talks to Annie and Henry reminds him of how their Ash talks to them. He's proud and jokes around, not open but as close as they'll ever see. But as soon as those two leave AoD Ash's side, the sneer of contempt returns to his face. And under it, he just looks tired. That only the bile of his hatred for Deadite kind is keeping him charging forward.

Suddenly, Pablo, Kelly, and Amanda understand why Ash is El Jefe. They understand how he has truly endured torture and torment on levels they can only begin to understand.

And as Pablo and Kelly look around at all the faces of their new team (pre Mia and David), they realize they are the only two Ash hasn't lost before. They suddenly realize why their Ash destroyed his life with drugs, alcohol, and an empty nomadic life before meeting them.

It's because Ash has truly been alone for 30 long years and all he had left was to run.

Maybe I analyze the 4 different Ashes too much but I've realized something:

AvED Ash is the only one that is overtly hypersexual. And this is after sex has been one of his three main coping mechanisms for 30 years.

The first three Ashes are much less vocal or even excited about sexual acts.

While it is stated in AvED that Ash had a lot of sex in high school, that really doesn't clash with his personality in the first movie. Given that you Ash is very cute and is obviously a bottom (as learned several times in AvED), I'm sure all the girls he hooked up with had a great time! This all does not change the fact that first movie Ash is obviously not pushy when it comes to sex because while Shelly and Scotty were getting undressed and going to bed, Ash asked Linda if she'd like to stay up and listen to the storm while. Resulting in them sitting in front of the fire, in the living room, instead of convincing Linda to go have sex (he isn't gonna have sex in the living room with his baby sister in the cabin, guys).

Second movie Ash is far more confident in his romantic intentions. Because he's with his established girlfriend, alone, in a cabin in the woods. And yet! Sex is still the last fuckin' thing on his mind. Him and Linda are so un-horny that they actively listen to a cursed tape rather than fuck.

Army of Darkness Ash, you actually get a lot of clues about his views towards sex throughout the movie even when sex is not even mentioned in the theatrical cut. You learn in the beginning of the movie that AoD Ash is the same as 2nd movie Ash when it comes to sex/romance. In the middle of the movie, you learn that sexual attractiveness and sex itself has very little weight for Ash (who, again, has recently lost the love of his life). You see this again at the end of the movie. If you'll notice, in S-Mart, Ash isn't chasing around the lady employees. He's actually completely focused on his work task. He doesn't actually take notice of his teammate's attractiveness until she comes over and starts flirting with him. Even then, he isn't immediately slathering on the charm like AvED Ash would. He's more reserved then the deadite comes.

It's not that these Ash's don't like sex, it's just that it's really not the most important thing on the forefront of their minds all the time.

Now, coming back to AvED Ash, a lot of what he does/says is based around sex. I feel that is because by this point, Ash has used sex extensively to make life stop hurting so bad that it's now at the forefront of his mind most of the time. Under all of Ash's bravado is very little actual self-worth and he tries to pump up that self-worth through sex. because he doesn't see that he has something else that people might want or care about.

I just find it weird when seeing people portray the young Ashes as overtly sexual in public when really, given canon, they'd be overtly romantic but not sexual in nature until they had their love interests in the bedroom.

A little personal headcanon of mine but I feel like Rebecca is secretly a gamer. She's like that semi-toxic kind that will cuss you out if you cause the team to lose but she tries not to be that person so most of the time she's not on mic.

Anyways, I feel like she would introduce Robert to gaming. She thinks it'll help him get out all the aggression that's been building up the last 9 decades.

Not about horror but I need to ramble a moment, whoops.

It is July 4th and God, I am currently going through that awkward moment where you're watching a super non-romantic holiday movie but your aro ass is an avid shipper (for some reason) so you start shipping the movie's two main characters (as you've done every time you see the movie) because you love this movie and the characters' relationship (because you're a sap) and you just feel awkward because surely this is stupid…

Especially when canon a romantic spark is shoehorned in between one of the main characters and the adult daughter of the other main character. Yet the daughter and her father are almost identical in personality so it really just hammers home the chemistry the two main male leads have.

But you still feel dumb lol because who the fuck ships characters in an action movie?!

I keep seeing people grumpy that they got rid of Goth Renfield after he got therapy.

Seriously?!

He wasn't goth, people.

He was fuckin' depressed and abused.

If you people really wanted to embrace goth Renfield, you would be jumping at the fact that Renfield would be a happy, healthy, pastel goth.

Where are the headcanons for that?

If Renfield liked dark colors then he could find resources on being a happy, healthy, traditional goth. But he doesn't. He likes bright colors. Just let the man be a pastel goth

Rebecca and Robert are walking to the car from group. They have just revived everyone and said their goodbyes for the evening. The night has a different feel to it now that Dracula is "gone". Both can feel it in their own way.

Night feels like more of a chill along Rebecca's spine than usual. There are now countless things lurking in any given shadow. Something far worse than any pathetic human criminal. Things that are big and dark and begging to drag their claws through her skin.

Night feels lighter on Robert's shoulders. There's moisture in his eyes, a silent sob caught in his throat like a bubble of stone. He can still feel the decades of blood coating his filthy hands but for the first time ever it actually feels like perhaps some of it will actually wash away.

The two get into Rebecca's car. Rebecca sits down in the seat like there's a lump of bricks weighing her down. Robert settles into his own seat like he's a leaf stuck on a breeze.

Both of their new perspectives slipping away as Robert suddenly whimpers. Rebecca's head whips to the side and she watches as his injured hands shake as he struggles to buckle his seat belt. Rebecca's heart clenches and she quickly does it for him.

She fixes him with a gruff but concerned look. Asks why he didn't take some of Dracula's blood, his hands are still damaged from the bastard's fangs. He shakes his head and says there isn't enough for something so minor. Rebecca gently curses. Why the hell hadn't they thought to just stick Robert's hands in the puddle of Dracula when they chopped him up?! God, she feels so stupid.

She mindlessly drives back to her place. The two enter. It's kind of "their" home now. Robert can't go back to his own yet. It's a crime scene.

She stands in the living room. She feels so useless. She watches Robert sit on the couch. He's hunched over as small as possible. Seeing him like this makes her dinner churn in her stomach.

She takes a small step closer to him. In a soft voice, she asks if he'd like for her to run him a bath. Says it'll help him relax. He makes a longing sound but shakes his head, says that his hands hurt too much currently to bathe himself.

Rebecca sighs and says she has an idea. She leaves and returns shortly wearing a rather modest bathing suit. Robert looks over at her and blushes softly before quickly looking up to meet her gaze. She's offering out a towel to him, tells him that she'll help. Awkwardly, he agrees and follows her to the bathroom.

It doesn't take long for Rebecca to run a warm bath. When Robert meets her in the bathroom wearing the towel she had given him. Rebecca smiles and comments that she's glad she likes big towels so that it actually fits his lanky ass.

Robert gets into the tub and Rebecca pulls up a folding chair. She sets down a first aid kit and sits down. Robert settles into the tub and practically melts into soothing heat of the water. He's barely paying attention as she cleans and bandages the wounds on his hands. They'll have to get him to a doctor if he wants to keep the function of his hands.

Conversation is almost non-existent. The silence is comforting and gentle. Rebecca gets to work gently washing him with a fluffy wash cloth from her towel closet. She's no stranger to bathing others. Once a long time ago, her sister had been shot on the job and had needed help.

She doesn't know how long she's there's taking care of Robert. She's kind of zoned out and so has he. It's not until she moves to wash his hair that she realizes that he's fallen asleep. She chuckles to herself and continues on her task with gentle hands. She uses a floral shampoo she can't stand but knows that he'll love.

When the deed is done, she runs a hand through his soaked hair. She ruffles it gently. "Time to get up, sleepy head. I'm not carrying your heavy ass to bed."

I just had the funniest Evil Dead the Game match!

we were fighting baal. I was annie knowby (a semi-squishy ranged character with a ranged damage buff). at beginning of the game, I get dashed and run to my teammates. a possessed unit kills our hunter ash up in the keep of the castle. I go up, grab his soul and his singular amulet. He cusses me out and literally calls me a loot whore. escaping 3 possessed units on the way to the alter, I rez him and give him his ammo. He is dead for less time than it takes for my sister to get the 1st map piece. rest of the game, only Sis bleeds outs but we all live for the rest of the match. fast forward to the end of the game. I have 1st place, most damage. prestige 2 hunter ash, after all his bitching and cussing me out, has last place with least damage

So, why have I not seen a single other person raving about Ash's Sellsword outfit?

In Evil Dead the Game, Ash has an outfit called Sellsword. My love of it rivals my adoration for him in his s-mart uniform.

Seriously, why does this outfit get so little love?

Ash is so handsome in it. He looks so strong and protective and warm when wearing this. Also, maybe it's just me, but this uniform just gives off a vibe of him being super snuggly to hug. Like the kind of hug where he's grumbling the whole time but still doesn't let you go so you just sink in against him.

Plus, love the sleek new gauntlet.

Also, there's just something about the leggings he wears with this outfit that just drive me a little wild.

I just love this outfit so much. I always think of the other survivors just sort of snuggled up against him.
