…sobbing over this, rip my heart out it would hurt less 😭😭
No but listen LISTEN. It’s the way that when Silco told Jinx she needed to let Powder die so she’d be free of the fear of pain, that’s the first time he says “Jinx is perfect.” Then when she kills him, the same way she did the others…the root of all her trauma…HE REPEATS THE PERFECT LINE AGAIN BECAUSE HE STILL WANTS HER TO BE FREE OF THAT FEAR AND PAIN

i feel like doesn’t realize he’s doing it, it’s just like subconsciously happening lmaooo
monkey d luffy is legitimately such a terrifying ass opponent bc if he has more than one fight with you…….you’re done. you’re over. all he needs is five minutes to figure out what makes you tick and use it against you. he’s learning new battle techniques (including your own) and literally leveling up within a day to spite you. if he’s not strong enough to protect his friends he WILL be. you underestimate bc he’s a little silly n u think he’s not paying attention but the whole time he’s been observing you like a bug. and now he knows how to squash you

another thing i love about luffy’s character is how he’s honest (painfully so) to a fault. i know everyone talks about it (makes sense huge part of who he is) but i really love seeing how in spite what his childhood was like (losing and mourning his brother and honestly being neglected and mildly abused 👀 by his grandfather through his training the fact he isn’t jaded or just a normal amount of mistrusting is wild) he is just so dead set on his dream and will do anything to achieve it except lie.
like all this man wants is to have adventures and yet didn’t betray buggy and keep the armlet at impel down (we all knew he would never and the thought /never/ crossed his mind) even back when he knocked the shit out of that major back when we first meet buggy. he tells the townspeople he knocked out the mayor when they falsely believe that buggy and his crew are the ones who did it. yet doesn’t feel the need to explain /why/ he did that.
like luffy knows why he did it his crew knows why and the townspeople didn’t ask why so he doesn’t explain while telling them the truth he just tells them the truth. (it’s been awhile so i don’t remember if he tried to tell them while running but i do remember they found out when the mayor woke up and told them) but it astounds me whenever he’s so unapologetically trusting and refuses to change. even when taking into account his choice in career he just seems weirdly unaware of the fact he shouldn’t trust other pirates. like in the punk hazard arc when luffy and law made the alliance robin had to tell luffy law may betray him for the thought to even /cross/ his mind.
someone else had to be like “hey maybe don’t just trust him he is a pirate after all” and then he was like “huh good thought, you gonna betray me” “no” “okay he’s not gonna betray me” this man has no thought process at all and it’s honestly incredible endearing.
i also just love the idea of having a main character so trusting (something that is not usually an aspired trait in main characters at least not in most things i’ve seen or read) an iconic decision on oda’s part

i think it’s interesting how luffy has such an easy time just like …forgiving people. i understand that’s a huge part of his character is being so “innocently” forgiving and trusting he’s supposed to be the type of person to see the best and root for people’s success no matter their past. but like watching the way he interacts with bellamy in the dressrosa arc is so funny to me. he has like one (1) conversation with him where bellamy was like “yeah sorry won’t laugh at you” and then has mildly negative interactions after (not really like it’s just bellamy being like ‘doflamingo is my icon 🤪✌🏻’) but he just drops it even calling bellamy his friend losing the little patience he had left when dealing with doflamingo. and while bellamy is being controlled he doesn’t /want/ to hurt luffy but that didn’t affect his decision of forgiveness it was a simple apology(similar to the way he forgives usopp and franky though he was already over the usopp thing not needing an apology only insisting on one when zoro made a point of him being captain and needing to demand respect from his crew) AND AGAIN I UNDERSTAND THAT IT’S JUST LIKE WHO HE IS IN EVERYTHING HE DOES because luffy is just like that never having an ulterior motive he does what he wants and is 100% honest in whatever that is. i think i have such a hard time understanding it because i’m not that kind of person to just forgive so easy, and i know there are characters he would absolutely NOT forgive, it’s just there are so few that are exceptions to the rule.
or maybe i’m stupid, don’t know what i’m talking about and am just fundamentally misunderstanding his character 🤷🏼‍♀️
