american leftists seem extremely focused on anti imperialism (good) but rarely- if at all- discuss decolonization in their own fucking country, despite acknowledging that it is a settler colonial state.

thinking about ContraPoints' quip that Leftists "don't want power, they want to endlessly critique power." It's quite an old line but people still draw it like a gun. I think the real issue here is the ambiguity around the word "power."

Yes, if you believe that certain power structures - what I would call authority or perhaps hierarchy - are inherently oppressive, illegitimate, and incapable of being used for liberatory ends, then you're probably not going to want them. I don't want an anarchist mayor, to cite one deliberately silly-sounding possibility. I would prefer to "endlessly critique" that office. But I want people to have the "power" to defend themselves, exercise their autonomy, have their needs met, etc. It might be gauche to quote Crimethinc in 2025 but "We love power and hate authority" isn't too far off the mark.

Although I'm assuming most of the trees in fo4 are actually alive and are just deciduous cause those leaf piles found all over the map sure as hell aren't 200 year old leftovers. So technically those mods that put the leaves back on at least some of the trees are completely lore friendly.

this australian guy wrote about the columbia protests when he was a student here. he hid his substack and deleted his social media apps before he went on a trip back to the US to visit friends. he was detained, interrogated extensively about palestine by two border patrol agents, then deported back to australia.
