Keith and Yona were given a rare opportunity to unwind, to simply enjoy each other's company without the weight of responsibilities hanging over them. It was a moment meant just for them.

Tears welled in her eyes, but Yona quickly shook off her sorrow. She was about to meet Keith, and he had no idea she had participated in the contest. She wanted to present a brave face, to show him that she was fine and that nothing weighed on her.

But Keith knew her better than anyone—𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘺 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘴𝘩𝘦 𝘬𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧.

As they wandered through the lush greenery of Jade in search of rare herbs, late afternoon sunlight filtered through the leaves when Keith finally broached the subject that weighed on him.

"You seem down, Yona. Is... is something troubling you?" he asked, his voice gentle yet laced with seriousness. He genuinely wanted to know but was cautious not to press her.

"Me? No! Everything's fine!" Yona forced a smile, striving for her usual radiance.

Yet Keith's unwavering gaze told her he saw through her facade. After a moment of silence, he spoke again.

"Your smile doesn't quite reach your eyes."

With a tender movement, he raised his gloved hand, hovering it over her expressive, doe eyes, which widened in surprise. He knew she was hiding something, trying to shield him from worry.

As her thoughts raced, he gently took her small, delicate hand—perfectly fitting against his larger one—and brought it to his lips.

"You can be honest with me, Yona. I will always welcome your truths, whether joyous or painful."

He kissed each fingertip with reverence before meeting Yona's gaze once more.

Unable to hold back any longer, Yona poured her heart out to Keith. She recounted everything from the day she learned about the contest to that morning’s disappointing results.

"I just wanted you to see that you are not an empty prince. You will never be one. You are amazing, Keith. I want you to recognize that. But instead, I fear I made things worse. "Even if I face defeat against the Princes of Rhodolite or any other realm, Yona believes in me above all. Her unwavering support is what matters most to me. So..."

He lowered his sword, adopting a stance as if ready to guard Yona from unseen dangers, prepared to risk everything for her safety as his golden orbs locking onto her blue ones.

"I vow to be the winner of your heart and yours alone. Your faith in me has given me the confidence to stand tall against the other princes, and I dedicate this '𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺' solely to you."

Yona was taken aback by his vow, her heart swelling with happiness at the surge of confidence he exhibited, which she had feared might wane. She stepped closer to him, and he instinctively placed his hand on the small of her back, pulling her near as they celebrated this unique '𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺'—one that only Yona could inspire in Keith.

"Keith!" I called out in my signature cheerful tone, my bright smile reflecting the warmth I felt for my beloved friend.

A warm blush crept across my cheeks, not merely because of the question about his friend, but due to the way he uttered my name in that deep, shy voice that always sends my heart racing. He has no idea how often my heart skips a beat whenever my name escapes from his wonderful lips.

"Keith," she called out to me with her usual cheerful voice and a smile that always lightens up my day. But now, that smile pained me. Because... I know that I am not the reason for that smile.

"Y-yes?" I shyly replied to her. "What is it, Yona?"

"Do you think your friend is coming here in Jade again?" A blush stained her cheeks, making her more beautiful than usual.

I know whom she's referring to. I know too well, for I introduced Yves to Yona and she is my friend, my dear, cherished friend. A friend whom I fell in love with but never dared to voice what I felt, afraid that it would end what we have.

"Perhaps next month or in the months to come," I said softly, my voice betraying the pain I tried to conceal.

Hearing my answer to her query, I saw Yona pout. Is heaven testing me? She's too adorable even when she's pouting like that. I cannot help but stare at her.

"Do you... like him? Do you... love Yves?" I suddenly asked, perplexed by my own question. Why was I opening a door that could lead to pain? Yet, I bit my lip, silently hoping for an answer that would fill my heart with joy.

"Yes? No? Maybe? I am not sure, but my heart beats faster whenever I see Yves."

It feels as if my whole world is tearing apart. My heart is being pierced with hundreds, no, thousands of daggers.

"But deep down, I knew he could never like me. He’s a prince, and no prince would ever feel anything for someone like me," she quickly added.

That’s where she was mistaken.

Without any words escaping my lips, I rested my head on her delicate frame, nuzzling her shoulder.

"Keith...?" I can feel that she is surprised. I don't know how long I can hold these feelings threatening to spill every time I am with her.

"I... I-I'm feeling quite sleepy. Would you mind lending me your shoulder? I apologize if... if this is too much to ask, but I really need it just this once."

Yona giggled heartily and allowed me to rest on her shoulder. I could smell her fragrance, a scent that was making my heart thump. I covered her small hand with my large gloved hand and slowly closed my eyes.

𝐑𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐞: Keith & Yona New Rings

⚘ a special thanks to my friend, Asteria, for giving me a new idea/design for Keith and Yona's rings.

For several months, Keith had contemplated creating a new, special wedding ring for Yona. This time, he wanted rings that would both define them as a 'deer couple' while preserving the rings they already had.

As he gazed at his own jade and silver ring, the memories it held were etched vividly in his mind. The tiny specks of frozen petals within the green stones served as a poignant reminder of the love stories that had unfolded, forever captured in his treasured keepsake: 𝖸𝗈𝗇𝖺'𝗌 𝗀𝗂𝖿𝗍 𝖿𝗋𝗈𝗆 𝖻𝖾𝖿𝗈𝗋𝖾, 𝖺 𝖿𝗅𝗈𝗐𝖾𝗋 𝗋𝗂𝗇𝗀.

With a gentle touch, Keith pressed his lips to the ring, pondering the next steps. An idea began to take shape... he will ask the help of one of Yona's closest friends, 𝖱𝗈𝗎𝗅𝖾𝗍 𝖿𝗋𝗈𝗆 𝖱𝗁𝗈𝖽𝗈𝗅𝗂𝗍𝖾 𝖺𝗇𝖽 𝖢𝗁𝖾𝗏𝖺𝗅𝗂𝖾𝗋'𝗌 𝖻𝖾𝗅𝗈𝗏𝖾𝖽. Keith would surely surprise his beloved doe, Yona, with his new gift.

As time passed, the long-awaited package from Rhodolite finally arrived, containing the rings that Keith had requested.

The rings were presented, meticulously designed to reflect their respective crests, designating the couple as the 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗗𝗼𝗲.

Later that evening, amidst the warmth of their intimate connection, Keith delicately slid the old wedding ring off Yona's finger, causing her to gasp in surprise, her mind racing with uncertainty about his intentions and whether Keith had a change of heart. Confusion flickered in her eyes, and in that moment, Keith recognized the whirlwind of thoughts swirling within her.

He tenderly captured Yona's lips in a passionate kiss—a kiss that spoke of his unwavering love and devotion. As their lips danced together, he lovingly placed a new ring on her finger, a dazzling token of his commitment.

"𝘠𝘰𝘶...𝘩𝘶𝘩?" Yona's eyes widened in astonishment as she processed his words. That night, Keith solidified their bond anew, renewing their promise to each other by making Yona cry out his name in a voice that only 𝗁𝖾 and 𝗵𝗲 would hear.

"Today marks the anniversary of our second year of being together. I can't believe time has passed this fast. For this anniversary, I wanted to write you a letter...so here it is.

Being with you has been the greatest thing that's ever happened to me. Your smile, your laugh, your kindness, everything about you is perfect. You're the angel in my world of darkness. Just always like how I first met you—the angel who saved me from peril.

I know I'm not the greatest man, and I have more flaws than merits, but you chose me...you chose us. You chose a complicated man like me. For that, I am eternally grateful.
