Protest Art – Peace
Protest art is a social movement that produces such works as the signs, banners, posters, and other printed materials used to convey a cause or message. The theme I have chosen, one that everyone used a lot, and has been powerful in both the 60’s and 70’s, is peace. Peace is a strong word that some people has embraced, but others have not. Some common examples are people who can’t accept other races and treat them like dirt, or countries that think they are better than other countries and want what they have even if innocents are getting hurt. Over the year’s peace has hardly been used, and only when the person thinks it’s necessary to keep the people from demanding peace. Doing the right thing to keep the country a safe place for their children and their children so long as peace keeps the people happy.
The history of protest began in the 1920’s like the painting Diego Rivera, Detail of “The Uprising (1931) it was the first step of protest are, because it showed the events on what happened that day (format.com). The 1960’s era protest art was defined by the Vietnam War and social unrest throughout the world. For many people, including the American intellectuals the war was cruel, unnecessary and tragic (guitynovin.blogspot.com/). Well I find that part of history to be true, because the 60’s was the first step which brought out the psyched art era. Also, the Vietnam War was large and the most talked about war in the 60’s, and everyone was fighting in it. Also, this kind of work gives people hope, when looking at it they will know what they are fighting for in war or rights.
A lot of the protest art in the 60’s was Feminist. Feminist movement emerged in the late 1960s amidst the fervor of anti-war demonstrations as well as civil and queer rights movements. It gave attention back to the utopian ideals of early twentieth-century modernist movements, Feminist artists sought to change the world around them through their art, focusing on intervening in the established art world, the art historical canon, as well as everyday social interactions (theartstory.org). Also, even now women still have some, but not equal rights today. Still I find that to be true, because back in the 1920’s women could hardly do anything. They let the men do the work, and show that they are the kings and that the woman should do everything they say.
Protest art had opened a lot of doors in both visual design and theatre, because of the way the person feels when they see the art. They’ll be sad and understanding and might join the cause to whatever the theme is that they are protesting being its positive or negative. Also, it’s showed in the theatre or on TV. When watching it on TV they basically show parodies of that person who’s the cause of that protest or the theme of the cause, and make both bad and good jokes out of it. Like, for example, Saturday Night Live did a funny scene with Saddam Hussein in prison, and that showed good protest art, because he did a lot of wrong in Iraq and his face was used in protesting and basically, they want to do show a funny visual protest on TV.
Now I will talk about the theme that I have chosen in the protest art that has really touched me a lot and that is peace. Peace protest art was very powerful in the 60’s because a lot of hippies were down for the cause of making this country a better place. Still it did touch me when a firing squad shot them when they wouldn’t leave. That made my stomach turned inside out. Also, it was even powerful during the Vietnam War (1955-1970) because the world was fighting over land.
Peace protest art has impacted a lot of people, because during time of war or when a country is fighting itself and the government is messing things up, people come together to help the bring people together in unity. Like for examples symbols like the peace sign and hands joining together and other things related to hope and unity. Still sometimes cops try to stop the peace, because they see that as a sign of aggression like the hippies or any other protest group. When the people see the art one of the protest group they see symbols or anything negative turned positive or anything that brings people to like for example two hands shaking hand, that will bring people together and they will know what, and that’s peace is so that the world or country can be better place.
The artwork of peace protest has a powerful theme that can be anything that doesn’t have a negative impact when people see it, the theme also related to photos as well. Like some art work does a lot of hippie peace signs, which is old-school, but has impact a lot of people in the 60’s and still used even now. The artwork also may use a lot or limited of colors for each artwork. Sometimes there are no art work on the sign, just text, the fonts are basically san-serif font which can be used as a protest depending on how its drawn, like if its bold then it means strength and we really want this to happen and nothing you can say or do can stop this. The photos of the protest can also bring to people together because an image can say 1000 words. One picture can be a broken family during a time of sadness.
When people see, what happens to that family then they want to do something so that won’t happen to them. An image can change the world of peace not just artwork alone. Both things bring a lot of people around the world together. Still sometimes you must be careful on what you draw or take a photo of because it might attract the wrong crowd, and might offend people, and you don’t want the viewers to hate to dislike your artwork or image that you have designed or take a picture of. Throughout a lot of peace protest artwork, that I’ve seen, they are about three pieces that caught my eye.
The first of the art work that I like is “Make Art Not War” piece (A1). This piece is a unique art work, because of the little girl holding an Andre the giant sign, and the solider looking at her protesting. It was good line contracts of thin and thick lines; the color is neutral and make the piece standout. The font is a good chose of San-Serif font and all caps to show that this message is important to the people. This shows that we should not have war, but we should make art and be happy. The figure of the solider and girl are cartoony, and good use of shape in the body.
The second art of piece that I like is “Come Together In Peace” (A2). This piece is perfect for bring people in the protest, because of two hands coming together as one to show people that we are strong as one, and not divided. This art work has a nice natural background that make it plan as first, but the two hands coming together makes the piece standout, it has a nice form of shape and texture in the sleeves rolled up. It’s a print work, the font is unique, because it looks like that it was handwritten on the print, and it also in front of the two figures to show that peace comes together, and it’s the most important theme in this protest, and we must have it to be happy.
The third and finally piece that I like is one of Banksy graffiti artwork of two soldiers, painting a peace sign on the wall (A3). This is a neat art work, because even with spray cans and a cut out layout of the design it’s still a nice piece. It has a little texture on the clothing, good greyscale on the soldiers, as well as the forms and the way the figures are standing to show the people what they are doing. The peace sign makes this strong because its being painting in red, which red is the color of war and blood. This art is strong to show the government that everyone even soldiers want peace, and that nothing you can say or do will stop us from getting it.
So, in closing looking at peace protest art has been nice and interesting and has open my eyes to the other side of the art world. It also showed that the world is sometimes not a perfect place, and life is not fair. I also agree with the peace art work, because I am tired of people not getting along, and making things difficult for us all. Can’t we just get along and be happy for our future generation? Only time will tell.

Herb Lubalin
Herbert F. (Herb) Lubalin (1918-1981) was an American graphic designer ,and worked for Eros, Fact, and Avant Garde magazine. He was responsible for the creative visual beauty of these publications. His font was to be described as a reproduction of art-deco, and is seen in logos created in the 1990s and 2000s. He even made his own firm called Herb Lubalin Inc. in 1964.
The first of his work that I like is his poster called beards. This is a unique typography poster with a face (mainly eyes and nose) image to give it the meaning of beards. It has nice movement in the San-serif font, because of the way this font is designed. the background as a alright color, that goes well with the blue color font. This has a good understanding of the subject.
The second of his work that i like is Avant Garde magazine cover 1969. This cover is very interesting image that was taken. it shows a naked woman pregnant woman in a dark room. This cover has good volume in the light and dark areas, that might show some greyscale. The font is a nice Bold San-serif font that each word is grouped together to make it more interesting to view, This is a good subject for pregnant women as the theme of the magazine.
The third and finale piece that i like is the Mother and Child logo. This logo is well done, because it has a nice serif font, and the O has child in the letter, and the and (&) symbol might be altered to make it more understandable. It also has clean contrast in the thin and thickness of the lines, and when people see this they will know that its friendly for mothers. Its a good logo over all.

Hjalti Karlsson and Jan Wilker are Iceland and German young graphic designers that have formed a designing company in New York called Karlssonwilker inc. The design company opened in the late 2000, They provide progressive solutions for design-conscious clients, ranging from local cultural institutions to global commercial enterprises.
The first of their work that I like is Wolf-Gordon: Neocon & Ad Campaign, 2016. They did this for the design, an American company that provides wallcovering. This piece is very interesting to see, because it looks 3D design with a lot of color, textures in each shape, plus it has good eyemovent in each shape that makes it more interesting to see. Even though its art wall on the wall its still a good piece to look at when you want .
The second piece that I like is the LYNfabrikken: Lecture Posters. This picture is a good design of turning something boring into interesting. the two people had an old grey and yellow suit and turned it into a good 3D piece with a lot of shape, volume and movement. Even the helmets are cool to look at with the text both San-seirf font popping out to make it unique to see. This is an interesting piece, because its a good mixture of art and fashion.
The Third piece that i like is Bloomberg Businessweek Cover December 2014. This cover is very nice to look at because it have a good video game theme to it, and it also talks about portrayal of women in the video game industry. Still this cover has good color, texture, and movement and almost looking like that the people got his is coming out the cover.

Project 4
A new art style that I have designed is a combination of east and west, the Japanese Heian art period (794–1185) and Italian art nouveau (1904) with a little bit of art deco (1925) style, I call it master-less style. Master-less style is something that I thought about, because I was inspired by Japanese culture, and their art. The paintings and the calligraphy was done all by hand which is amazing, and the way the bright colors look in the scroll painting, that shows details in the clothing as well as the texture in the whole painting. When you look view one of these painting it shows calmness, because the Japanese are all about calm and beauty in their work. Still finding this idea wasn’t done yet I need to find the yang to my yin in the style, because I want to find which art style to balance the Heian art style, so I chose the Italian Art Nouveau this style is well detailed in their human figures, also show some symbolism in the work, and the colors are a little dark with some volume.
Art Italian Nouveau is a yang for my yin, because the Italian artists are very well known for their work in the human body as well as details in everything from the body, landscape, and background. But I felt that I could add a little Italian art deco to give it some volume and make the colors pop out so that everything won’t look so flat, but keep the texture and the colors balanced. This style can change the way of comics, manga, and bring two cultures together as one.
But before I tell you the details of master-less style, I would have to tell you the history of each art style that makes this style, and why its unique. Heian art was made during the time of the Heian period from 794 to 1185. This style was a regard as the first text with a unique style of Japanese calligraphy (boundless.com,2017). As well as the as their inspiration from Chinese culture. Which is cool, because the Chinese art style is beautiful with their patterns, colors, and contrast in the lines and texture in details in their painting in color, and in black ink drawings. Japanese Heian art has beautiful hanging scroll, yamato-e (a style of Japanese painting inspired by Tang dynasty painting), mandala (particularly in Hinduism and Buddhism), handscroll, and finally the kana syllabary. Also, their art is also religious in Buddhism. They also tell a story as well as an event on what happened in battle or a memorable moment.
The other art style that I have chosen to go with Heian art is Italian art nouveau. Art nouveau is an international style of modern art that became fashionable from about 1890 to the First World War (visual-arts-cork.com,2017). The era is not just good for art work, it’s also good for glass, jewelry, interior design, and architecture. Art nouveau shows the characteristics by its use of long, sinuous, organic line in each art piece (britannica.com,2017). All the cultures this style were amazing, but the reason why I like art nouveau in Italian, because the art has a life like look to it and shows its beauty in details of the human body and the background. It also has the Renaissance feeling to it like all Italian art is in both is form, layout, texture, and color,
Still the two-art style need one more thing to give it some volume in the color and form, and that’s Italian art deco. Art deco is also called style modern it was originated in the 1920s and developed into a major style in western Europe. The United States during the 1930s, also it represented modernism, but it symbolized wealth and sophistication (britannica.com,2017). It may be old-school, but the use of the volume in color balances everything, so that the color won’t look so flat and that everything has some volume to make it pop out when you look at the figure.
Now I shall tell you about master less style, and what to expect from it in the world of design. First the design will be hand drawn or illustrated on an Apple or Windows computer, no screen-print that too easy, but I can be printed if you to illustrator on computer. Still drawing everything by hand even the text will show its true beauty, and hard work. The shapes of the design will be all shapes, but human and animal figures or any other figure with a body are the most important point in the designs. The contrast of the design will have both thick and thin lines in each part, also have texture so that it won’t look boring. Also, the human figures will be a mixture of real Japanese figures combined with human like features, for example the face will look normal, but the eyes will have that Japanese look to it to make it interesting or a little creepy depending on how you see it. The style maybe be a challenge to do it, but the design will be worth it in the end.
The color will be both warm and cool colors, no black and white. It will be like yin and yang, like warm colors red, yellow, and orange will be bright. The cool colors blue, green, and purple will be dark. It will balance the layout of the background like for example, chosen a good dark green for the grass, but finding some bright warm colors to bring out the grass to make it look beautiful. The colors will also show give it texture in when the layout when making the design life like. The clothing of the color will be either two to three solid colors or pattern, and not only that the clothes of the color will be limited to some Japanese traditional colors, like yellow means sincerity, red mean propriety, and purple means virtue (tofugu.com,2017). These colors will show who is important and who is evil. It’s a good way to tell a story without the use of words.
The font will be san-serif, but the edges will be altered into a calligraphy style type, but keep it western in the body so that it will be balanced. I call this font Kai. Kai will have a font-family of bold, thin, italic, and regular, but only if used on illustrator, if done by hand it will only have bold, and thin style. This font will be unique, because it shows a good combination of east meets west. Keeping it traditional with a twist. Still the font can be 3D, but only on illustrator, and angled rightly in the art work.
Master-less style is good for telling stories, unique fan art, comic/manga, or any other art-work you would like to do. When printed it will be printed on a handscroll starting from the left, that would give a lot of eye movement, also it’s a good way to use handscrolls, because its introduce new people to cultures as well as make them interested in art/comics when they read it they might be inspired with new ideas. It can be printed on hanging scroll/ a regular poster to show the image full size and to bring out the beauty of two art styles together. When printing this just makes sure everything is correct and leave no loose ends, just make doubly sure it’s done right just like the Japanese and Italian art.
I believe this style can last for three maybe four years if done right. With the right team/artist we can make this master-less style work, and it will open the world of two art cultures, and maybe even bring the east and the west together. It’s been done with food many times, so why not try bringing it together with art. Also, it can be educational to children, so that they will learn where this this style came from, and the history of two art periods. I think that this could bring more anime and manga artist together, because this could be exciting to bring a lot of artist together to learn about master-less art.

This is a good logo that i like when i look it remind me of cobra from G.I.Joe. this is a well done with a yellow or white background. it has nice contrast of lines inside the cobra. Also it has symbolism, because cobras are the most dangerous snakes in the world, This is a cool logo that has nice movement from the tail to the head, and will but the fear into the other team.
The second of his work that i like is Coal logo, Founding word-mark, 2002. This is a good San-seirf font and script font that’s its easy to read with a nice color, plus since its a clothing theme, he chose not to make the word bold, but kept it nice and simple/clean so that when people read this word and look at the clothes in the book they will know what this word means. So its nicely done.
The third and finale of his work that i like is the Final Party with DJ Rhettmatic, 2006. This poster has movement in the record with the arrow around it, and a the colors are a good green from light to medium. The text is goes well well with the background, and all are San-serif which makes it easy to read. When people see this poster they would want to go to the this show, because its a one time show. Also the items in the piece forms the each letter in the white background, which is interesting, because when viewers look at this piece they might get the message of the art work.
The second of his work that I like is poster called invitation 1984. This poster is a good child’s theme poster because of the drawing, it has nice contrast of line, and the background is a good orange which shows the white lines, that makes it look like a chalk drawing. Sanna Annukka
Sanna Annukka (1983) is a half English, half Finnish designer and printmaker whose work is strongly inspired by her natural surroundings. She studied illustration at the University of Brighton, then after she graduated she then began selling her screen prints in a London shop. Her work has work is largely influenced by Finnish Folklore and Scandinavian design from the 50’s and 60’s.
The first of her work that i like is Sielulintu no.5. It may be a wood craving, but it has a great design of details on the inside, it shows a lot of patterns, and a nature feeling to it, almost native american. The wood give this piece texture and it well done in black ink. plus soul birds are spiritual, which give the piece meaning and it might tell a story, This piece is a well done.
The second piece that I like is a screen print called Linnunlaulu. This is a good screen print of birds, but all of them have different forms even though they all have the same color. The first three creates scale, from large to medium, which is interesting. Also the piece creates movement in the eye. This is a nice piece that is a good way to be calm.
The third and finale piece that i like is her Nordstrom 1/4. This is a good piece that uses shape and color with a nice white background. Also using a deer and bird goes well together because it give it more of a nature look and feeling to it. Also it has a holiday theme to it ,because of the present under the deer. The piece has scale and movement in every shape, which makes it a nice piece.

Adrian Frutiger (1928-2015) was a Swiss typeface designer who influenced the direction of typography design in the second half of the 20th century and into the 21st. When he was a boy he would experimented with invented scripts and stylized handwriting, which lead him to be the typographer we know today. He even made a Specimens of typefaces font.
The first of his work that i like is the Adrian Frutiger exhibit 2011 poster. This poster has a good San-serif and serif font That has boldness and scale, and the color range is good and easy to read. When you look at this poster, you will know that the artist is a typographer and that his work is based off of type. The background give is balance with the light font which gives it volume with the color font.
The second of his work that i like it is his Specimens font. This font called Egyptienne. This font is a good Serif font that has a Swiss look to it, because of the way it looks, not like the American style of font. This is a good style with a nice font-family that can be used for European designs and titles.
The third of his work that i like is the poster with his last name Frutiger i think it was made in 2015, I like the scale of the plane and the tracks to show that the plane would be coming in for a landing. The color scheme is nice and it goes well with the background. The font is a good San-serif that is nice and bold in the name, and the rest is regular. This poster is a good poster that can be used in the airports or any air plane theme. its a well done piece.

She worked with William Drenttel to make some cool looking art .
The first of their work that I like is save freedom in the network world 2008. This digital print/poster sends a message to the people showing that their is only freedom can’t be save by the people in this time, but it can be heard in the internet. This poster shows a man with half of his face showing with the top part showing crayon scribbles and crumbled up paper to mean that that's his mind, and the font is a nice San-serif that's easy to read with the red white stripes, its a good poster.
The second of their work that i like is the cover of scrapbooks: an American history 2008. This cover is a good examples of the uses of images, that’s old school, and when combined it can make a good one image that tells the story of how this country came to be. The font is a good serif font that's nice and bold, plus the yellow goes good with the black background. just by liiking at this cover you will know what the book is about.
The third of their work that i like is Winterhouse maple syrup 2005-2012. These are good design’s that good color and image range, even the one dog image when two of the same bottles come together it make one image. The font is nice and clean, a good San-serif font. James Victore
James Victore (1962) is an American art director, Graphic designer, and author. he is know for his first book called Victore, or Who Died and Made You Boss? made in 2010. Also won many numerous awards and accolades for his racy and unique posters. That has a message to the people. also hace many exhibitions not just in the USA, but all over the world.
The first of his work that like is an illustration for a Times op-ed, from 1996. That’s called South Africa’s Lost Generation, I like this work because it sends a powerful message to the African American, community that still today we still get beat on by the cops, which makes me sad. Also i like the Silhouettes merging together to make it form into one shape, and the font is a good serif that has an old school newspaper feeling to the illustration.
The second of his work that I like is a 2010 drawing called use a condom. This drawing is very true, because sex is not fun and it can be dangerous, and that u need to wrap it. Even if the two flies are doing it doggie style (lol) they still need to be careful. Also the font has a unique handwritten drawing, that makes it look cool, and hip. This is a good drawing that can send a message about safe sex.
The third of his work that i like is the cover for the New York Times Magazine, 2006. Islam and the bomb. This is a good typography font cover that shows type to be formed into an object. It also have nice scale, and it may be hand drawing, but its a nice San-serif font. This cover sends a powerful message to show what would happen if we had bombed Islam, and it would be not good.

project 3
The graphic artist that I’m going to write about is Chip Kidd is an American graphic design. Kidd had design famous book cover designs from hardcover novel books to comic books. His base of operation is in the New York City (the big apple). Mr. Kidd has become the most famous book cover designer in today’s date. Chip Kidd is not only a graphic designer, but he is also a writer, book designer, editor, author, lecturer and musician. Kidd’s famous work is the Watchman comic book cover (2008), Batman animated book cover (1998). He is also credited for working on Bat-Manga! (2008) and Jack Cole and Plastic Man: Forms Stretched to Their Limit (2001).
Charles (Chip) Kidd 1st was born on September 12, 1964 (in his 50’s now) in Shillington, Berks County, Pennsylvania, USA. When Chip was a kid he grew up with American pop culture through television mostly in the daylight, but was a huge fan of Batman, and starting collection the Dark Knight merchandise. (Rob Daubenspeck, 2010) It’s cool that when Chip was a kid he was inspired to become an artist at a young age just by watching television, and that his favorite superhero is Batman. I found that to be very true, because when an at a young age I was inspired to be an artist just by playing old Super Mario games, reading comics, and cartoons. That was the start to become an artist for me or for anyone, because art is everywhere and that when you see it for the first time that is what you would want to do in the future.
Mr. Kidd attended Pennsylvania State University majoring in graphic design program, then he graduated in 1986 with a degree of graphic or public design. Soon after Chip started working for Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group (Knopf) working as a junior assistant, but he worked hard designing over 75 book covers in a year. Mr. Kidd still work at the Knopf, but moved up as an art director. He also oversees the production of comic book covers for Pantheon. Soon after his work became so known that Mr. Kidd work along with many famous artists Jack Cole, the creator of plastic man. The two of them made Jack Cole and Plastic Man: Forms Stretched to Their Limits. In 2003 (FamousGraphicDesigners.org, 2017) Another famous artist that he worked with is Nelson Alexander Ross aka Alex Ross famous for Earth X #1–12 (1999–2000). Those two design and wrote a short comic called "The Trust," in Mythology: The DC Comics Art of Alex Ross in 2003. As Mr. Kidd worked along many artist he got to work with a film adaptation of Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park novel in 1990(FamousGraphicDesigners.org, 2017). It amazing that Mr. Kidd has worked alongside many famous artist and writers. That is the what I would work hard to do as an artist, and someday I hope that I can work with these people with these famous comic artists or a video game designer like Hideo Kojima the creator of the metal gear solid series or even Hironobu Sakaguchi creator of final fantasy. (Gamedesigning.org, 2017) These are just example of the people that I would love to work with in time with hard work, and when I make a name for myself in time, just one step at a time.
Mr. Kidd’s design style is more art than science (Carly L. Roberts, 2008), because first he reads the book, then after he pictures what he wants to draw in his mind, and capture the books design. He even takes risk in his work, even though one of his work described by Updike as “monstrously ugly” (Carly L. Roberts, 2008). I find that to be ok, because when your work is judged, and gets review, you can take their input and remake it into something better. Kidd learned that the best style is no style (Carly L. Roberts, 2008). True, because having a best style doesn’t make it better than any other style, so it is just like any other art style.
Mr. Kidd has won some awards like the International Center of Photography's Infinity Award for Design in 1997, work he designed unknown (icp.org,1974-2017). Another award he was awarded with was the National Design Award for Communication in 2007 for Communications Design, work unknown (cooperhewitt.org, 2017), the Inkpot award in 2015 at Comic-Con for his comic arts (chipkidd.com,2016) another award that he won is The American Institute of Graphic Arts or AIGA medal in 2014 for his book covers like the 1996 Naked, the 1999 Wind-up bird chronicles, and the 1990 Jurassic park book cover (aiga.org, 2017). Mr. Kidd work is spoke highly of like in USA Today newspaper the applaud his spirit in the graphic designing and called him “the closest thing to a rock star” in the industry (FamousGraphicDesigners.org, 2017).
The first (A1) of his work that I admire is one of his comic book covers Watchmen cover 2008. This art piece is a good example of an old-school cover look. It has good texture in the wrinkles of the brow, and when you look at the cover it’s like the character is looking at you with a serious look. Plus, Doctor Manhattan is a good character to use in this cover seeing that he is the only threw out the comic with super-powers, he might be called the superman of America or a god like figure, Also the first Nite Owl (Hollis T. Mason) calls his arrive the dawn of a superhero. The font is a nice san-serif. It looks like that each black shape was cut out of the word and placed out on the yellow background and arrange to make the word/title of the book. This cover is easy to read with, and it also have nice range of blue’s in the skin which creates volume of light and dark areas. The contracts of the lines are thin and thick in the face. Plus, the title is well written because it rhymes. This Cover is well made, and it goes well with the story.
The second (A2) of his work that I admire is another one of his cover that is a manga called Bat-Manga cover 2008. This is another art piece that has a 60’s retro look and combined with Japanese culture, because manga is Japan’s word used to refer to both comics and cartooning. It has good range of warm colors in the background. I do like the pose of Batman on how he is drawn. Batman has good contrast and good details in the cape which give strong texture. The hole batman drawn is well detailed even in the face showing that he is ready to use or using his grappling hook which gives the view a question view. This also has a Japanese style with the font in both English and Japanese, the title has a nice serif style, while the Batman title is handwritten Japanese. It’s a great Adam West batman manga in 60’s timeline.
The third (A3) of his work that I admire is book cover that is the Jurassic Park novel cover 1990. This cover is well done with the shadow of the T-rex bones which give a hint on what the book is about for people who hadn’t seen the movie. The bones are drawn well and a good shade of black to make it look like a shadow, also the contrast in the thick lines of sharp teeth, and the ribs, also the ribs mirage into the bones to form one shape. The background is nice and plan to show that shadow of the bones which makes it interesting to view. The fonts of both the title and author of the book are a good san-serif, both have color, but the title of the author has red in it which could mean that there will be blood in this book because dinosaurs are dangerous.
The fourth (A4) of his work that I admire is another comic book cover is the Batman: Death by Design cover, 2012. This cover has good grayscale from light to dark areas which brings volume. Also, showing that batman is hanging upside down is a good view of showing that the Dark Knight is doing what all bats do, hanging upside down. Plus, the Gotham is aligned with batman’s top head to give it some depth and its doesn’t make it clutter. The title is a bold san-serif font, and the title batman is black with a white shadow in the back to give it some mystery and illusion. I also like that the symbol is up that way it’s not upside down with batman to make the symbol look funny.
The fifth (A5) of his work that I admire is another book cover called Wind-Up Bird Chronicles cover, 1999. This cover is a well done spread that has a movement when you open the book. Your eye will catch the bird from its head to its tail. This cover has a nice range of colors and pattern in the bird its self. Even adding light drawn of clock-work parts make the book title go into its theme. Plus, it almost looks life like even though the bird is a wind-up too, that the colors gives it texture. Also, I do like the san-serif font, on the title, also making it a shape, and the text is aligned with the bird’s head which makes it very nice to look at instead of straight line, which creates movement in when reading. Over all this is a modern design that goes well with the book.

Eric Gill
Eric Gill who’s real name is Arthur Eric Rowton Gill (1880-1940) he was an english sculptor, typeface designer, stonecutter and print maker, he also was associated with the ACM ( the arts and crafts movement). He is also the elder brother to Leslie MacDonald Gill but know as MacDonald Gill or Max Gill a famous early twentieth century graphic designer.
The first piece of his work that I like is the 1931 sculpture Prospero and Ariel. This sculpture is well crafted by hand. which gives details in the human body. The form is well balanced by the way the bodies move. Also it gives nice texture on the the robe of the folds, when he’s leaning forward. Also it gives nudity in its beauty like all Renaissance art, This piece also can tell a story depending on how the people see the sculpture.
The second piece of his work that i like is the 1927 wood engraving on paper art piece called The Soul and the Bridegroom. This is a good romantic work that shows two people in love with each other. It has a good contrast with the weight of the lines, and form of the two people embracing each other. Also the man has a halo around him which means he could be a saint. This is a nice piece that has emotions and religion.
The third and finale piece of his work that i like is the 1927 wood engraving on paper art piece The Good Shepherd. This is another good religious art piece that shows Shepard carrying a lamb on his shoulders, which shows that he is helping the lamb, that might be tired or injured. This piece has good strong contrast in the line both light and heavy ( that gives it form in the tunic he’s wearing). Also the background of the paper give it texture which makes it interesting to look at when your viewing art.

Wolfgang Weingart
Wolfgang Weingart (1941) is not just a internationally known graphic designer he is also a typographer, he is also the father of new wave or swiss punky typography. In 1958 he returned to Germany and studed at the Merz Academy in Stuttgart where he learned how to typesetting, linocut and woodblock printing. After he completed a three-year typesetting apprenticeship, he then found a mentor Karl-August Hanke, and studied with him in Switzerland.
The first of his work that i like is the UCLA 2000 poster. It has good contrast and color with the boldness of the San-serif font type. it has nice volume in the art style that gives it a retro 90′s style in the way that the letters are colored. They gave it a nice white background with a nice color scheme. also the word extension is interesting to read cause it gives it character.
The second of his work that i like is the 1981 poster called Kunsthalle Basel, this poster has a nice use of warm color scheme, the yellow and orange. this poster also gives it a nice retro 80′s look with the boldness of the San-Serif font, because every poster he made it has a bold all caps san-serif font. which is no issue, and on the inside of the font has a nice pattern.
The third and final work that i like is the 1980′s poster called 18th didacta/eurodidac. This poster is nice with the cut out and it was layed out with a nice pattern in the background. This poster has a nice theme that its for learning, also the images are black and white that gives it volume with the color background. Also the font is easy to read and is aligned with the image.

Sabrina Ward Harrison
Sabrina Ward (1975) Harrison is an a Canadian artist and author. She has created five books published in her career as an author. Like for example when she was 23 she published pilling Open; The Art of Becoming Yourself in 1999. At the age of 28 she published True And the Questions; a journal in 2005 still this book was inspired by The Art of Becoming Yourself which she made in 1996 at the age of 21.
The first of her work that i like is the true and the question book cover, This is an interesting book cover to look at with the ink hand written words, because the Japaneses always says that ones handwritten is a representing who they are. Also it my be unique in a good way, because it adds character. Theirs also a little color on the side of the cover. The overall book looks like a journal and is the paper is different when the words was written.
The second of is a drawing of a self portrait i think (https://www.pinterest.com/pin/343610646552043193/) this drawn has nice contrast lines, of both thick and thin lines, the paper gives it some texture, because it was drawn on drawing paper, which makes it give it some life, the colors are neutral, also their are i think quotes in her outfit which make it more to interesting.
The third and final work that i like is her journals. Her journals are interesting to see, because they tell how she is and when you read them you can tell that who she is on both the out and inside. the writing is unique, because its her hand writing. Also the pictures cut out and glued to the page would make it more interesting to see, that you would know what she is talking about it has good contrast, volume, color and a little space.
