People still tend to lump JK Rowling in with the category of ~problematic artists~ and I need everyone to understand that is not the problem with her. She is not comparable to anyone who wrote a piece of fiction you hate, or someone who made rude comments in 2015 and has since learned better.
She is far more like Elon Musk. She is a radicalized person with an extreme amount of social and financial power, and for YEARS she has been using that power to try to influence her government into hurting vulnerable people, on purpose. And she has succeeded. THAT is the problem with her, and THAT is why spending money on her books is so dangerous, not because her books aged badly.
Critiquing her work is fine, of course (I personally was never a fan so I really don’t care) but you NEED to understand that fiction is not the main issue here. And I truly think acting like she’s the same as the rest of any giant list of ~problematic creators of the week~ waters down how dangerous she is.

Tbh I prefer scrawny Vax. Rogues are supposed to be nimble and stealthy. I think people would notice if Dwayne Johnson was trying to pickpocket them

Man, I am so tired of the class reductionism of D20 fans, and combining it with the CR fandom’s inability to recognize axes of oppression or themes that don’t directly apply to them (see this excellent post) is making me lose my mind. I’ve already seen people say that Divergence is a classic Brennan “capitalism is always the villain” story, which is such a gross misunderstanding.
Rybad-Kol is a fascist society filled with religious persecution and racism. (Capitalism and fascism aren't mutually exclusive, of course, but there is a difference and it does matter.) Marlath sold out his fellow Dragonborn to be rounded up and eaten/used for cannon fodder because of their race under the misguided belief he’d be rewarded and spared for being “one of the good ones.” That is the most blatant, explicit parallel to both the Holocaust and modern times I've ever seen. It’s not a class question.
It’s deeply reductive to say Brennan only/always includes themes of anticapitalism in his storytelling, and it’s dangerous to ignore racism when it’s shown directly to you.

I’m 4 minutes till 30 and trying to sleep past the thought of just how few decent members of my family were good.
One of the big reasons I identify so heavily with Ashton is having been raised fundamentalist, my extended family cared more about their image than decency, and fractured the family through their inaction.
And then the constant stress of my childhood led to fibromyalgia so that pain was yet another thing I could relate to.
And the older I get the shittier the world gets so I’m just getting angrier and more stressed.
When I met Taliesin at NYCC and told him I saw myself in Ashton, he got quiet and gave me a really sad look.
idk I’m really feelin it tonight guys

I hope Critical Role takes another week or two off from streaming (or more, if they need it) with everything still so fraught with the LA fires.

There is now a GoFundMe for Producer Kyle, who lost his home in the LA fires. This is the official one, organized by production head Vinnie Singh

Update: Most of the cast dropped in on social media to say they're safe. Marisha and Matt were forced to evacuate to a hotel for the night with Omar.
Kyle unfortunately lost his entire apartment, but made it out with his pets. He is safe.

Genuinely wondering if people remember something Matt said in the WIRED interview last year. The campaigns are written for his friends to play, and the fact that we enjoy them is a nice little bonus. Am I thrilled with every direction in this campaign? No! Because it’s not for me; it’s for THEM.
Just fucking chill people, god.
