‼️‼️‼️SPOILER WARNING FOR NOSFERATU (2025) ‼️‼️‼️

So i watched nosferatu earlier today and i have some THOUGHTS. (unedited, lack of coherent sentences and passages)

Count Orlok and Ellen's dynamic is widely misunderstood as a result of some dark romance girlies twisting the story to fit their narrative.

Orlok was an abuser and nothing changes that

he clearly took advantage of her vulnerability and it's this "toxic, abusive ex" dynamic more than anything else

Yes, Thomas WAS sort of dismissive of her concerns but to act like he's a bad person is actually insane. People have forgotten how to watch movies and it shows.

i mean come ON, ur wife's having ominous dreams while u kinda wanna get that cash money for u guys to have a better life and so that you can provide her with the life she deserves??? i mean yeah if i was in his place i would've probably believed her, but i also understand why he left.

+++ i've seen a few posts using thomas signing the marriage nullifying document as proof that Orlok loved her more??? my guy was scared asf and was literally tricked into doing it considering that he was under the impression that it was a property related document, tf was he supposed to do😭 learn an ancient language in 10 mins??? be so fr rn

Thomas was also very quick to recognise where he went wrong and he APOLOGISED ‼️‼️‼️ He also did everything in his power to protect ellen and idc what people have to say, being a loving, devoted husband does not make someone a cuck; genuinely re evaluate ur priorities if you think like this. My dude was not healed at all and still came back to wisborg to warn/ (attempt to) protect ellen from Orlok.

Another thing, Ellen "consenting " to her and orlok's marriage isn't really consent if she was forced and coerced into doing it btw. Orlok is a power-hungry, sexual predator and ellen and her powers are something he wants and actively lusts for.

thomas and ellen hutter you both deserved sm better, count orlok you're an interesting character for me to think about after the film, but idgaf about u otherwise.

I think one of the things I appreciated most in Nosferatu was the framing of Ellen and Thomas’s marriage. Despite the fact that he doesn’t quite understand Ellen’s otherness he still loves and accepts her completely. Their deep love for one another is still so palpable even in the thick of Orlok’s manipulations. I just think it would’ve been so easy to make Thomas a witless and uncaring husband and Ellen an unsatisfied wife. But no. Despite everything, they love each other completely. And that only makes it all the more painful.

the thing that makes thomas so compelling in nosferatu 2024 is that he’s downright pathetic but he cares so much about his wife that he turns his patheticness into brave devotion. idk if that makes sense. like he’s SO pathetic but then he puts on his big boy pants and does his best because he’s so devoted to his wife that it doesn’t even matter. “excuse me but she asked for no pickles” ahh marriage. i love him so bad.
