Is India On The Verge Of A Dengue Epidemic?
What is dengue?
Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral disease that mostly occurs in tropical and sub-tropical regions. The dengue virus is carried by different species of mosquitoes of the Aedes genus. The symptoms of this disease are mild and are difficult to distinguish from other viral infections in the initial period of infection. They present themselves between three to fourteen days of contracting the infection. The symptoms typically include a high fever, nausea, headache, joint and muscle pains, vomiting and skin rashes. While dengue is curable, the disease can be life threatening in rare situations when the symptoms are not identified and treated on time. This can lead to dengue haemorrhagic fever, reduced levels of blood platelets and blood plasma leakage, bleeding or alarmingly low blood pressure levels causing dengue shock syndrome.
Reported Cases In India
India is in the grips of a massive dengue attack with over 23,000 reported cases this year. The South Indian states are the worst hit regions with 13,229 cases in Kerala followed by 4,174 cases in Tamil Nadu, 1945 cases in Karnataka and 606 cases in Andhra Pradesh. Other states that have been badly hit by this disease are Gujarat and West Bengal with 616 and 469 reported cases of dengue respectively.
This sudden surge in the spread of this virus called for a review meeting earlier this month for assessing the nation’s preparedness against the disease. While Kerala’s Health Minister, KK Shylaja, has termed this outbreak as unprecedented and accounted it to the onset of an early monsoon, leader of the State’s National Assembly, Ramesh Chennithala, has claimed that this upsurge was due to the lack of proper sanitation programme preceding monsoon. 23 cases of deaths have been confirmed in Kerala, however, it is suspected that the real number has exceeded 160.
Dengvaxia is the only vaccine available across the world for curing dengue. However, India has not approved its marketing in the country. The vaccines we have available offer protection to people who have not yet been exposed to the disease.
How To Prevent Dengue
Since mosquitos carry the dengue virus, the best way to prevent dengue is to not frequent places that might be infested by the insect. Here are some other tips to prevent yourself from contracting the disease:
Use mosquito repellents or sleep under a mosquito net.    Keep the windows closed, especially in the evenings.    Cover your body by wearing full sleeved shirts and full length pants.    Do not allow your children to play in water puddles.    Do not allow water to stagnate in your surroundings. Stagnant waters are breeding grounds for mosquitos and can create a health hazard. Try to keep your surroundings dry and clean.    Ensure that you empty water from coolers, buckets, and other containers once a week.    Use aerosol or liquid vaporiser during the day to prevent mosquito bites.    Ensure that all drainage systems in your surroundings are well maintained and properly covered.
Identifying The Symptoms
Although it might be difficult to avoid the virus altogether, however, it might be beneficial if you learn to recognize the symptoms of dengue in the initial stages itself. If you have more than two of these symptoms, it is advisable to consult your doctor and get a test done immediately:
Fever – very frequent, high
Headache – frequent, intense
Rashes – might appear between 5 – 7 days on contracting the virus
Joint & muscle pain – intense
Pain behind eyes – frequent, intense
Vomiting & nausea – warning sign
Diarrhoea – frequent
Bleeding (skin rashes, gums, nose, ears) – frequent
Treatment
Varying degrees of dengue require appropriate attention. Dengue fever leads to a considerable drop in the platelet count. If recognized and treated immediately, you can recover from dengue within two days to two weeks. These home remedies have proven to be very effective in curing dengue:
Drinking juice of crushed Papaya leaves is the most effective remedy to cure dengue.    Drinking guava juice mixed with honey has shown effective results in fighting the disease and quick recovery.    The juice of Azadirachta Indica, commonly known as Neem in India, Aloe Vera juice and Barley grass juice have proven to be most effective in increasing the platelet count.    Pomegranate juice strengthens the immune system and helps in faster recovery.    Gooseberry juice is rich in vitamin C which is vital in curing dengue and must be consumed regularly when infected.    A combination of cucumber, carrot and lemon juice also strengthens the immune system and helps in fighting off the after effects of the disease.
While home remedies are effective, it is always advisable to visit the doctor for treatment of dengue.
Dos & Don’ts When Infected
The National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and the Directorate General of Health Services have laid down certain guidelines for things that should not be done while fighting the disease:
Do not ingest Brufen or Aspirin for treating the fever    Do not use antibiotics or steroids    Intravenous therapy should be avoided unless there is an evidence of bleeding or hemorrhage    Blood transfusion is a big no-no unless indicated otherwise
Recovery
The patient fighting dengue symptoms will show visible signs of improvement in the recovery stage. Their pulse becomes stable and breathing, body temperature, and blood pressure go back to normal. Any internal or external bleeding stops and body rashes subside. The patient will their appetite returning and will no longer feel nauseated.
It is often said that prevention is better than cure. It is easier to avoid contracting the disease than curing it. It is important to visit the doctor regularly and watch the patient carefully as this disease can rapidly transcend into a serious medical emergency. It is recommended to drink the magical potion during ailment that has healing properties – water! It is important for the body to get a lot of water and rest while recovering from dengue. Stay safe, stay fit!

11 Best Tips For Faster Healing Of Bone Fractures
Your body has a wonderful ability to heal by itself when any damage occurs. The time taken to heal, however, differs with the type and extent of the damage. Likewise is the bone fracture which usually may take more time for healing. You can support the body’s healing process by taking proper diet and precautions.
An unfortunate fall or an accident may result in a bone fracture that certainly makes you slow down your daily activities. Do not worry as you can get back to normal in some days by supporting your body by following certain steps. Let’s take a look at the simple steps you can follow to heal your bone fractures in a healthy way. Boost up your bones by taking dietary supplements
The bone has 70% of mineral contents like calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, silicon, zinc and others. When there is damage, bones require these supplements for faster healing.
Your diet should contain a lot of veggies, fruits, organic meat, nuts, and seeds which help in healing and for building strong bones.
Calcium-rich foods
Calcium is the structural component of the skeleton, which makes it vital for both bone health and healing. Intake of calcium-containing foods helps in bone healing. The calcium-rich foods are:
Green leafy vegetables like kale, spinach, and amasai    Raw fermented dairy products like yogurt or kefir, cottage cheese, and raw milk    Sardines with bones    Salmon    Orange juice
Magnesium-rich foods
You need to consume magnesium-rich foods to get the benefits of calcium as the magnesium, and calcium metabolism is closely related. The foods include:
Flaxseeds, chia seeds, and pumpkin seeds    Grass-fed beef    Swiss chard    Almonds    Avocados    Black beans
Vitamin containing foods
Vitamins are essential for fracture healing. Vitamin C is especially essential for manufacturing the collagen which is an essential component of the skin and tissues. Vitamin K2 is essential for blood clotting and bone formation. A lower dose of vitamin K1 is also essential for bone health.
Vitamin C rich foods include:
Citrus fruits    Bell peppers    Strawberries    Tomatoes    Kiwi    Broccoli    Asparagus
Vitamin K1 and K2 rich foods include:
Kale    Broccoli    Spinach    Raw dairy products like cheese and kefir
Foods high in zinc
Zinc is also necessary for bone healing. It is useful for chemical reactions to rebuild the bone. You need to add the following foods to your diet to obtain adequate zinc.
Grass-fed beef    Spinach    Pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, and flaxseeds
Protein containing foods
Proteins are essential for any healing process. Protein supplements aid in healing by rebuilding the lost bone tissue. You need to take more plant-based proteins in your diet. They may include:
Soy    Lentils    Other legumes    Almonds    Quinoa
Avoid taking aspirin and ibuprofen
You may use drugs such as aspirin and ibuprofen to decrease inflammation, however, these drugs delay the fracture healing. The other options for decreasing inflammation are vitamin C, bioflavonoids and flavonols, and omeg-3 fatty acids without affecting the bone healing process. Natural essential oils for healing
Though you take the medications prescribed by your doctor, sometimes you may prefer natural oils for healing. Cypress oil, fir needle oil, and helichrysum oils are examples of essential oils. These oils are mixed and applied to the body five to six times daily. This oil-mix speeds up the healing and repairs the damaged nerve tissues. Quit smoking and drinking
In general, smoking and drinking are harmful to your body, including bones. They also slow down the healing process of the fractured bone. Exercise daily
Healing of fractures requires good circulation and adequate flow of nutrients, and this process can be enhanced with exercise. Focus on the joint loading and range of motion exercises to accelerate healing and ensure a return to normal function post fracture. Try acupuncture
Getting acupuncture treatment is another beneficial procedure for bone healing. Treatment on appropriate acupuncture points helps repair the damaged bones. Limit the use of salt
Limit the use of salt in foods as sodium removes calcium from your bones and limits healing. Limit the use of salt to less than ½ tablespoon per day. Stay away from cola, caffeine, and sweetened beverages
Cola and sweetened beverages tend to remove calcium from the bones. In the same way, the caffeinated beverages also contain the compounds that can bind to calcium and prevent the calcium to be absorbed, slowing down the healing. So try to avoid these types of foods or beverages when you have a bone fracture.
Last but not the least you need to:
Go for regular health checkups    Seek physiotherapist for rehabilitation    Take proper care of the cast    Do not stick yourself to the bed, stay active    Keep ice pack on the wound to prevent swelling and inflammation
Healing and healthy living requires balance. Limit the foods that rob your energy and delay the healing process. After following these steps, you will definitely see your broken bones healing faster than earlier. You can happily enjoy your daily routines once you get completely healed.

6 Reasons Why You’re Pooping A Whole Lot More Than Usual
I have to confess up front, this is going to be the weirdest piece I have ever written. You perhaps know what I mean! Yes! I am going to talk about your bowel movements. It is totally reasonable that you would get a bit freaked out when you abruptly start going more. While the reasons can be sundry and diverse, I assumed I could share a few causes with you that can help you with the difficulty.
Reason# 1: Fiber
The peak cause why young females start pooping more is since they enhanced their fiber consumption. Well, 30g is possibly sufficient for most folks. If you are having bowel movements more frequently than normal, chances are you have started consuming extra fruits, veggies and whole grains, which upsurges fiber consumption.
Reason# 2: Routine
As with most stuff natural, the routine is indispensable. Recognize when you frequently go for a poop. Stay consistent in your routines! Once you launch a routine and switch with it, you will discover that half the clash is done.
Reason# 3: Exercise
Trading up your workout mundane can make you go more than normal. That’s why medics may inspire you to exercise more if you are constipated.
Reason# 4: Stress
Stress goes hand in hand with routine. A lot of individuals have more loose poops and bowel movements while they are worried or tensed. Above and beyond, distressing about it makes the condition even worse.
Reason# 5: IBS
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a syndrome in which abdominal pain is linked with a variety of signs. Normally, these comprise erratic abdominal ache complemented by diarrhea, constipation, or sporadic occurrences of both.

Is It Safe To Have Sex During Pregnancy?
Often the prime concern couples have during pregnancy, is about their sex life. They are concerned about the safety of the baby or probable injuries that may be caused. Besides the inconveniences during later stages of pregnancy, their worry is that sex or orgasm may trigger miscarriage due to the contraction and relaxation of the uterus.
The medical truth is that in a case of a normal healthy pregnancy, there is no reason why the couple cannot have sex unless the doctor has advised something to the contrary. The couple can keep making love regularly right up to the time when the water breaks. Sex Doesn’t Cause Miscarriages Nor Induces Labor
The myth that having sex can bring on labor before the baby is ready to be born is not true. If the body is not ready to go into labor, having sex will not cause a premature birth, even during later stages of pregnancy.
Also, the concern that the male organ might hit the baby’s head is a myth, as the baby is placed at a far enough secure distance. If the baby moves around a bit after orgasm, it only means that the baby’s reacting to the pounding of the heart or enjoying the rocking movement. He will not feel any discomfort, nor will have any idea what is happening. The baby is well covered under layers of flesh and in the amniotic fluid which acts as a shock absorber.
Can Sex Cause An Infection ?
The thick mucous plug that seals the cervix, keeps the uterus and amniotic sac well protected and insulated from the outside world and helps guard the baby against infection. However, it should be ensured that the male partner does not suffer from any STD.
When Sex Is To Be Avoided
There may be certain situations where one has to abstain from sex or be careful while having sex. Such restrictions are based on the following circumstances:
In a case of vaginal bleeding or spotting in early pregnancy, or a history of preterm labor, signs of pre-term labor. If there is a history of miscarriages, then the doctor may advise not to have sex until 14 weeks.
In cases of incompetent cervix or a history of cervical weakness or, a low-lying placenta or placenta previa , the doctor may say it’s best not to have sex for the rest of your pregnancy.
Also, in cases of a vaginal infection, or genital herpes, sex may be forbidden.
In case any restrictions are placed, then this is to be shared with the partner and alternatives should be devised to address the issues. In situations where penetration is not allowed, mutual masturbation can be done to reach the climax.
If having sex is okay but orgasm is out of bounds, then one can stop before reaching climax. If all such activities are totally banned, then try cuddling, petting, necking etc.
Sexual Drive During Pregnancy
Sexual drive may come down during pregnancy due to the hormones. Also, any issues in the relationship, or the state of mind may affect the sex drive. As the pregnancy progresses the onset of weight gain, back pain, and other symptoms tend to reduce the desire for sex. Also, many women are worried about their appearance and ability to give sexual satisfaction to their husbands.
The First Trimester is a period full of apprehension and concern, while during the Third Semester, the physical changes and an enlarged belly make sex inconvenient and more laborious. However, it has been found that during the Second Trimester, sexual desire in women is on the rise and it is called the “honeymoon period”.
Sexual Positions During Pregnancy
During the latter stages of pregnancy, the usual man-on-top or the missionary position may not be found to be convenient any longer. One can try other several other variations or positions. A few suggestions are given below.
Side-by-side or Spooning:
As the name suggests, both lie on their sides, a man lies behind the woman, like two spoons placed together. This position ensures full body contact yet inhibits deep penetration.
Edge of the bed:
The woman lies on her back with her waist and bottom at the edge of the bed. Her knees are bent with her feet on the edge of the bed. The man can either kneel or bend near the edge facing the woman.
The woman on top:
In this female version of the missionary position, the woman is on top. As this posture allows the woman to be in control it is said to be the most satisfying of all.
On the chair :
The man sits on the chair with the woman on his lap, her back towards him. There is no pressure on the uterus and the woman can control the speed and depth of penetration by squatting up and down,
Doggy on knees or kneeling down:
The woman kneels on all fours on the bed and lets the partner approach from behind. If it is strenuous, then the woman can stand on the floor, bend down taking the support of the bed or sofa.
To conclude, the most important point to note is, sex during pregnancy is absolutely safe, unless otherwise advised. In fact, it has been found that having regular sex or having an orgasm during pregnancy makes it less likely to give birth prematurely!
