Politainment: Politic + Entertainment
Where the politicians selling their private life like celebrities and the focus of the people is no longer their programmes or capability as a leader/the people’s representatives but the means of favoritism. We are living this situation, especially Indonesia, during this time. This is a same discussion from the perspective of media of the topic I’ve been looking at.

New Caption
caption for WIP show March 2018
News from the Witty Country (read: Indonesia) is created for you, the partial or totally blind, deaf, and dumb believers. With our internationally recognized-high credibility, we deliver the news you want to should hear.
Information cycle in Indonesia has gone wrong. Mainstream Media (printed, online, or TV) is controlled by the richest people in the country or the government. Social media full of hoax and misinformation. Illiteracy of the society has made this situation even worse (Tapsell, 2018). This situation has torn apart the society in the 2017 election. 2019 is the year of the presidential election. 50% of the voters are the youth, who are the either skeptical or not care about the politics in Indonesia (2018, pp.78-79).
How can graphic communicators encourage the young voters to care more and being critical of the political issue?
-------
In the last research, I found that social media has already encouraged youth to talk more about politics. Dear Motherland gathered information showing that the youth talks politics and engaged with the current issue of politics in Indonesia. They engaged in discussions through likes, comment, sharing political stuff in social media (Astuti 2016). This involvement is a proof that youth already involved in the discussion. There is no point to continue to do the project in merely raising awareness to the youth.
However, the case of 2017 showed that there is a lack of criticality in reading information. In other words, media illiteracy (Tapsell, 2016). This situation is not particularly specific for Indonesia, rather, it is a global issue. I have no more idea what I am doing now. I regret that I did not attend last tutorial by force. I think I need a help

Parody & Satire in Politics
What is the best practice of parody and satire in political usage? In relation to my project, this journal informs that the use of parody & satire is not always (rather being rare) to encourage an action. It is usually being informative and entertaining. It indeed creates an indirect (but proved to be effective) ability to create a space for togetherness in a less polarized situation and engage people to this kind of discourse, however, it is not impossible to state more than that. This article encourages the practice to address the possibility of foster the integration of being entertaining and educating (or “calling to action”) at the same time. The only example of this kind of satire mentioned is PAC by Colbert, who, with his satirical channel, calling people to raise fund for his project and it works. and to build satire, we need to build a credibility as a foundation of its satire practice. (Young, 2013)

Discussion
I have decided to have a proper sketchbook to document all kinds of stuff that I read, think, experiment, and other records about this project. I will create a post on this blog, to sum up, if necessary.
These 3 weeks I have been struggling with the intention of my work. What do I want from the audience? What should I do with them?
I have discussions about it with Aliyyah Rusdinar (MSc Comparative Politics in LSE, she been looking at the local political influence and political situation in Indonesia) & Wisnu Prasetya Utomo (author and researcher about media in Indonesia, currently studying MA Communication and Media in University of Leeds). We discussed the social media phenomenon in Indonesia and arrive at a point of agreement that its effect in politics has not proven empirically. It is proven that the phenomenon exists, however, is it transformable to a vote? Not yet proven. There are too many variables and there is no analysis of it yet.
However, the highlight of the discussion is that the phenomenon does exist and it is worth to look at. The urgent matter is the illiteracy media of the internet user in Indonesia. Rather than encourage potential young voters to vote, it is more urgent to encourage them to be more critical about the news.
In the later research, I stumbled upon another journal stating that it is proved to be true that the emergence of social media encourages youth in Jakarta to engage more in discussions about politics, changing the apathetic character of youth about politics. However, it does not state any clue whether this engagement is transformable to a vote withing young voters. This journal is also discussed that youth who are active in social media (Facebook, twitter, etc) tends to make news friends and rely on social media to gain information. It also mentioned that they believe that information shared by a trusted fellow considered to be credible.

What is the role of media in forming reality? Public opinion? What about politics that lies behind it? How does it related to the uncritical citizen?

Growing Archive: Dear Motherland I asked fellow friends from Indonesia 🇮🇩 wherever they are now to recontextualize by comparing the Preamble of Indonesian Constitution and the very situation of Indonesia.

Question:  How do I bring together this experiment with my video and print media?  How can I develop it further?

News from the Witty Country
intention: Create a common newspaper with a secret feature that can be accessed only by a certain group to avoid being watched by the government. The idea is to keep the ongoing discussion about the current situation among the youth without being fear of imprisoned; Encourage them to be more critical about any issue in circulation.
Evaluation: The folded form is confusing. The newspaper cannot stand alone, need more contextualisation.

What is protest? How people express their opinion? How protest are different in other countries? What is subtle and firm expression of protest?
The delivery of information in the book is engaging the reader with physical interaction. Fill in the blank, writing down an opinion, etc. Another way of engaging the reader rather than AR? Is it even more engaging?

Recontextualisation of The Constitution of Indonesia
The printed image shows the faithful role of government of Indonesia as written in the constitution (1945) and the image layering convey the very situation of Indonesia which is “accidentally or purposefully hidden” by the mainstream media.

Belief vs Faith
in the ‘now’ era, people often get mixed up about what their belief and the faith. What is the faith for them though? This also applied to the character of people looking for information on the internet within their filter bubble: finding for a confirmation rather than a truth.
This is what happened in Indonesia with their religion (faith) and what their belief. They usually mislead their faith to substantiate their action, scapegoating faith to justify what they believe in. Using religion as an excuse to blindly blame other people for what happened, especially for politically driven issues.

Step Back,,,
MCo was right, I confused myself with “audience” and forgot what I actually pursue. So I step back, re-read and think about the feedback from the symposium. 1 tutorial with RR sparked an idea about “to educate people, prevent what happened in the last election recurring in the upcoming election: a talk with RS also sparked an idea to create a container for experiments that I had. So,
What I learned, What I should avoid:
