Week Three Integrative Learning: Portfolio Revisions & Strategy
How can you revise and enhance your portfolio upon graduation
I can continue to take on more freelance projects and add them to my portfolio. I already completed my Sizzle Reel so I added that on the homepage of my site, kind of as an introduction. I have also added my area of expertise and skills used under each project in my portfolio. I also need to continue to update my business social media so my audience can stay up to date on new projects I have completed.
2. What would you add to your portfolio so it can have a greater impact on your audience?
I have added all my current work, but I haven’t added any Full Sail videos that I’ve done in my classes. Showing my audience that I can produce video content can add significant value to my company because it’s showing another skill that I have.
3. How will you effectively use your portfolio throughout your career journey?
Since 2015 I have been a stay at home mom, and have concentrated on my Freelance Design. Although I haven't had any other work, I’m hoping my portfolio is strong enough to stand out as my work experience as I go and apply for internships and jobs to work for into my career.

How I Tailored My Resume
How I tailored my resume was taking notes from the original job scan results. I didn’t have much to improve on but I did try to follow the edit instructions as best as I can. I increased my word count. I added my freelance company’s name as well as the web address, so the future employer would be able to go directly to my website and view my portfolio if necessary. As far as measurable results I mentioned details such as helping my clients start from the ground up when creating a business by creating things for them such as logos, websites, flyers, etc. I also talked about how doing that helps the upcoming business increase sales. Soft skills that I included are specific details saying that I communicate well, I have great customer service skills, I’m very adaptable, and I work well under pressure. Uploading the original resume and the new one I got 100% match rate on both. By using keywords related to the advertising, graphic design, and web design industry I think that help me reach that 100% satisfaction rate. As a freelance designer my goal is to help upcoming businesses at a reasonable cost. So many people have the idea, but not the vision to execute their brands, and that’s what I’m here for.

Media & Marketing Professionals Worldwide
This group immediately sparked my interest because they have a large amount of group members. They claim to be the world's #1 - Largest Group of Media & Marketing Professionals on Linkedin with over 500,000 professionals from across the globe members of it, for the purpose of networking, sharing knowledge, discuss business associations, seek career advice & explore job opportunities. This group page has approximately 570,603 members. I joined this group because this is exactly the field I want to work in once I graduate. I really want to work in the marketing and advertising field. Hopefully this page will link me to job postings and opportunities to get me closer to working for an ad agency or firm.

Very Creative People
Their description reads as a space to share and discuss creative experiences about design, advertising, photography, creative literature, marketing, economy, music, arts and all things related about we love: our creative work. All people feel free to join it! It's open to the entire world! This made me excited to join because they aren’t being very catty about letting other creatives join, they encourage feedback and also they may have job postings that may interest me. They also give tips and share tools that help us enhance our work and give us information that helps us stay updated with the latest software.

Social Media Profile
I chose my business Facebook Profile page to add to my linkedin https://business.facebook.com/jasminechavious/. I chose this particular platform because it displays all my current work, but it doesn’t have any of my personal interactions such as commentary, pictures, and friends not strictly related to my work.

How I Plan To Revise My Resume:
Besides being a freelance designer, I technically haven't "worked" in the corporate world since the middle of 2015, right before I had my first child. This puts a small fear in me that it may be harder to find a job because of this but I feel like in my field my freelance portfolio may makeup for this. Revising my resume I plan on adding the actual companies that I have designed websites and graphics for.
Even though my last real job didn't have anything to do with my current field, the results on JobScan.com suggested I still add the company along with the companies website. In my case the last real job I had was Starbucks as a Barista.
I need to add some "measurable results" to my resume. I currently don't have any. I also need to research what "soft skills" are and add that to my resume. Apparently I have many important hard skills, but no soft skills at all.

Creating a Career Path
There was a lot of information I took form the video from Dr. Chaz Austin. In the beginning of the video he stated to “shift from finding a job to finding work”. This stood out to me because as I began job searching as of recently I was searching in despair instead of solely researching a job that I want to have to build into a career. Looking at myself as a freelance worker as he says is actually smart in this day in age because jobs are no longer permanent anymore. Instead of just taking any old job I need to pinpoint exactly the avenues I would like to take so that I can build my work presence and eventually work into advertising full time. That can mean me taking different jobs such as web design, print work, set design etc. For me I feel like I have partially defined my brand but I definitely need to work on how I would articulate my brand to the public. I currently do freelance web design and graphic design and occasionally produce content like 60 secs or less promos when it comes to advertising ones brand. I need to figure out a way to eloquently mash all that into one when I’m presenting myself in front of future clients/employers. I’ve definitely monetized my passion because I currently do charge for my design work but the work isn't steadily coming in and it’s definitely not dependable when it comes to paying bills. This is one of the reasons I want to work for a brand or agency so that I can have constant work. One of my goals is to find that agency or brand to give me that opportunity. The biggest thing that I need to work on is work on public speaking. As time passes and I’m around people I start to get comfortable but upon meeting strangers I get shy and tongue tied really fast. Dr. Austin mentions not letting one’s inability to communicate stand in the way, and I am hoping and praying that public speaking is something I can master before having new interviews.

So far I’ve found exactly 20 companies that have work in the advertising field. The keyword I searched after looking at the Atlanta map was “advertising” because that is the field I plan on working in once I graduate. I throughly checked each site, and listed “Job Opportunities” under each companies notes that had a career/internship link on their site.
The Industry Professionals I found During My Research:
Steve Harding with Aso Advertising 404-214-2025 // [email protected]
Alex Van Winkle with VWA Advertising 404-355-0126 // [email protected]

Revisions:
After hearing my instructor’s feedback about my original website, I just decided to start over from scratch.I added a home button (don't know how I missed that at first). I increased my font size. I added a map with a more accurate location (San Diego State University). I made my menu page separate, at first it was on the homepage. I put my testimonials at the bottom of the homepage.Instead of screenshotting the information given I hand typed everything. I deleted social media buttons since they technically have no active social media sites left. I deleted the music off the site entirely. I also added the tag line at the bottom of the page.

Diigo Exploration
BUsing Full Sail’s MCBS Diigo Resources to find articles to help build the structure of our Portfolio site. Selecting three articles plus one outside of the Diigo library. Using my blog to share what I learned in our research and addressing prompts Ms.Wray provided.
Article One:
http://shortiedesigns.com/2014/03/10-top-principles-effective-web-design/
Article Two:
http://chrisguillebeau.com/new-new-economy/
Article Three:
https://speckyboy.com/tips-for-creating-a-first-class-personal-portfolio/
Bonus Article:
“Understanding Color Psychology for Impactful Web Design”
https://designmodo.com/color-psychology-web-design/
I chose the fourth article because I know the color scheme on a website can make or break the user’s interest. When I found there was a psychology to color I wanted to learn more. This article can be helpful to future students who may not know where to start when trying to build a website from the ground up and also try to engage the user at the same time.
Why did you choose each particular article?
I choose the first article because I design websites, and I’m always looking for ways to improve and make my web design even better.
I chose the second article because it is about how online publishing is always changing. I want to keep up with the trends because once I enter my field of advertising and marketing I want to know how to be able to communicate efficiently to customers online as the times progress.
I chose the third article because I know before I graduate while working in Full Sail, we will be creating our own personal brand portfolios, so I wanted some tips on how to execute it the best way I can.
Identify 3 points of interest from each article - What did you learn?
Three key points from the first article:
When people browse online, unless they are looking for a story or article most of the time people want to get their information quickly. Because of that it is important to keep information straight to the point and easy to read and digest.
Color palettes always enhances the users experience. Complementary colors create balance and harmony. White space is very effective at creating a modern uncluttered look.
Eye tracking studies revealed that people scan computer screens in an “F pattern design”. Most of what people see is in the top and left of the screen and the right side of the screen is rarely seen.
Three key points from second article:
Social Media and blogging by marketers can become oversaturated. People who do business on social media are beginning to do the same tactics as each other and it isn't becoming unique anymore. Try to think of ideas to gain and keep a following that stand out.
It is much harder for the average person to reap a substantial profit on a new digital product without putting in a lot of work on both the development and marketing side.
Some businesses engage with their audiences almost entirely through social media feeds. Their stories are lived, shared and grown through social media.
Three key points from third article:
Make your logo and tag line clear. Your logo is your brand. Your tag line is who you are and what you represent.
The ultimate reason for creating a portfolio is to gain clients and get paid. Your contact page should be easy to navigate. The easier you make it for the visitor the greater the chance you'll end up working with them.
Categorize your work. This leads to easy navigation and an even easier way for the client to look for exactly what they’ve been searching for. They can even browse other categories and get new ideas for designs just because the variety is there, organized, of course.
Three key points from bonus article:
Color is an important element that can convey a specific message to users.
I thought this color chart was modern and very helpful:
3. Triadic is the most basic and balanced color method. When you use the 12 step color wheel, you can select any three colors which are located 120 degrees away from each other for background, content and navigation.
How can you apply the insight gained to the portfolio site you are building this week?
I can use the feedback given by Ms.Wray and use the tips I’ve learned in these articles to improve my website. Looking at these tips I want to implement colors that make my website more inviting. I want to use certain fonts to make my website pop but still more cohesive to the text being used around it.

Yes, with the exception of a video clip of the Reel Deal Taco Truck in action
Did you propose or promise something you could not deliver?
No I did not
What was the most challenging part of the process for you?
Making sure I typed everything word for word, from the story about how the Reel Deal Truck came about, to the news and testimonials.
Where would you like to go deeper?
Creating and consistently updating Reel Deal Taco Truck’s social media pages.

Research into CMS for Real Deal Taco Truck. Rough Draft Link included. Summary about the particular CMS platform chosen.
Why did you choose that particular platform?
I have been using imcreator since the beginning of 2012.
Have you used it before? If so, what was your experience?
Around that time my best friend and I created a clothing and accessories line. We didn’t want to pay anybody an insane amount of money to do our website for us, when I knew I could figure out how to do it myself. After doing a lot of research and toying with different CMS platforms, I fell in love with imcreator and never looked back.
Why did you choose that particular template/theme?
When doing my competitor research I noted that they all had the infinite scroll feature. This layout has the infinite scroll feature and I can add separate pages to the menu if necessary to give the blog more dimension. What features will you leverage to meet the business needs of your fictitious client?
Have you used any CMS that you would NOT recommend? Why?
I personally don’t like Wix or Weebly. I haven’t looked at those platforms recently but in the past their layouts looked cheap and unprofessional in my opinion.

Competitor Research
youtube
Video Comparisons of Three Competitors website for my client. I chose Chipotle, Moe's and On the Border because these are the biggest competitors toward's this market for the food items that they serve. I didn't chose any food trucks because with online features and apps, I still feel these would be their biggest competitors because of the faster ways you can receive the food

Content Strategy:
1. What is content strategy?
Content strategy is finding the message by people, meant to be understood by people. In order to do that we must understand people and discover their motivations and goals.
2. For every single project, an audience has to be defined. We must then ask ourselves what goal or aim are we trying to reach. What is our message!?
3. When trying to per sway your audience, your tone must be clear and defined. The voice and tone must match the attitude of the company.
I personally would like to know more about style guides. Connecting visual content to the message of what I’m trying to convey is key. Understanding the principles of having a successful style guide is what makes advertising important. Being that I want to be in the marketing and advertising industries, perfecting how to do style guides is important.
I will use the insight I gained from this lesson on our current project by truly identifying who my company’s target audience is, creating a website cohesive to what the brand represents. Identifying what tone I want the website to have, and making sure my website is a good reflection of the client brand profile.

Our mission is to create a simple website for the Reel Deal Taco Truck. Because the truck’s location is forever changing, geo location tracking will be enabled in real time to ensure the customer the exact location of the truck at all times. When posting new news updates use certain keywords so the content will specifically show up for this brand when using search engine optimization.
Specific Strategy Recommendations:

Whether it’s someone who specifically works for Reel Deal Tacos, or one who is trained to answer specific questions about Reel Deal Tacos, somebody will always be available for social media maintenance.
· Enable Geo Location tracking in real time so that the customer will know where the truck is at the current time, or when the truck will be near them if scheduled in the future.
· Add menu to website
· Develop a blog to the website where the news section is. Use specific hashtags and words to organize the website better and also make it easier for search engine optimization when one searching for specific things. Keep news relevant.

DVA: RISE Peer Feedback
What struck me about your video was that it was very personal, it felt like a mini documentary about Myara’s journey to becoming a model. It made me want to revisit my own video to show more action into what he was discussing when talking about his field of work. Were you trying to highlight the work that the Larry Nelson Agency does as far as what they do for the models they train? Also I watched as Myara talked about wanting to become an actor. Because of her mentioning that, maybe in the future you should consider including some examples of her acting. Maybe include some audition tapes or her actually in the moment of being on set and acting. This video can definitely be used to add more footage to her journey. It would be a good portfolio reel to watch her success grow as a model. I enjoyed your video portrait. Good job.
