For all the myriad problems I have with Dragon Ball Super, I could never truly hate it because it finally answered a grave injustice.

Ever since Dragon Ball GT didn't let Pan go Super, this had been a point of contention in the Dragon Ball fandom. Why can't we have Super Saiyan ladies? Where the Super Saiyan ladies at? GT gave us not one but two new Saiyan girls, Bra and Pan, and didn't let either of them transform.

At a time when Super Saiyan has been so thoroughly trivialized that Goten and Trunks could transform at 7, Pan and Bra just... don't get to. At all.

Akira Toriyama is not responsible for this. He didn't make GT. But he did throw some fuel on the fire when he said he couldn't even conceive of what a female Super Saiyan would look like. Which is. Uh. Kind of. A dumb thing to say.

It would look like a woman with Super Saiyan eyes and hair.

Was that really so hard to imagine? Did we really need to rack our brains to come up with a design like this?

Suffice it to say, this was a long time coming.

The main thing holding Caulifla and Kale back is that they are, ultimately, minor antagonists from another universe here to compete in a tournament. The structure of the Tournament of Power means that we don't get to keep them. At the end of this arc, they'll go home to their universe and we'll never speak of them again.

This is all the time they're going to have. And for something that's been asked of Dragon Ball for decades, that sucks.

But at least they got to chew a lot of scenery while they were here. Toriyama didn't just give us a female Super Saiyan. He didn't even jjust give us two. Before his reimagining of Broly for the DBS film, he gave us this reimagining of Broly.

Which was absolutely a "hype through the fucking roof" reveal. Fuck you, she can turn into a musclebound goliath with biceps bigger than your torso if she wants to!

And he let them fuse!

Just running down a checklist of cool shit we aren't allowed to see women do in Dragon Ball. You get a Super Saiyan form! You get a Broly form! Videl gets a Super Saiyan form!

Which nobody talks about but that is absolutely a thing that happened??? Pan went Super Saiyan in the womb and Videl channeled it. What the fuck? It's such a shame that the series is so aggressively disinterested in Videl that they just refused to ever address this moment. It had no ramifications for either Videl or Pan, neither of whom have transformed since, because they're just accessories for Gohan and Piccolo to wear.

But I digress.

Caulifla. Kale. Videl somehow. Amy Rose. Women finally get to be Super Saiyans now and it's great. Those two are the best part of the Tournament of Power and it's such a shame that we don't get to keep them.

If you’re in the UK you could email about trans health care.

If you’re in Australia, what about dental care in Medicare?

If you’re in Europe, look into some EU initiatives of particular concern. Perhaps something to do with nature and biodiversity? Idk
