Photos of the Week Series: April 13, 2018

Associate Photo Editor Kristen McNicholas has been responsible for looking at daily uploads so she has the first set of eyes on every image that the Your Shot community shares. She starts each day looking through thousands of photographs and this series will be a selection of her favorites from the past week. Each Friday she will be sharing her favorites here!

“Since last Thursday, we had just over 28,600 total uploads! That is absolutely astounding. This past week you all had the special treat of Your Shot Senior Producer Matt Adams doing a couple of edits from daily uploads while the team was traveling back from San Francisco. I think of picture editing kind of like how a person has a voice in their writing. Matt might find completely different frames than me and I always find it interesting looking through other’s photo edits. While looking through my own and Matt’s selections I found myself attracted to bold color and beautiful light.”

A Good Day to Smiling KakA. It is said that elderly people are most clean hearted people in this world. Be it of any race, caste they have the most appealing smile that can soften your heart with pleasure and fill it with Joy. One fine afternoon I was just wandering with @sadak_ka_nalla around on #streetsofrourkela looking for some cheap street side dhaba for a cheap and quality lunch. We crossed the Railway Lines under the flyover that's when I met the Kaka in Frame. I smiled at him and he smiled back at me. That Feelings was inexpressible. I did a Barter with him. I offered him lunch but in exchange I told I will click his pictures. He Agreed to it and that's when I got this image. #ahambramhashmi - I am the GOD. Find the light within. Every 2nd month, 500 young students from remote villages of UP come and stay in this place with a hope to change their lives. Classrooms turn into bedrooms as they sleep on floor for next 60 nights. Mornings start at 4 am and books occupy their minds till late night 1 AM. The sheer discipline and focus these young boys and girls from poor families displayed during my interactions with them, re-assured my faith in the Greatness on this Nation. #RoadtoBharat is a journey to identify many more such Leaders & Entrepreneurs in the making. With each interaction my hope and belief gets stronger. #wanderer I shot this image during my trip to Goa on August'17 when me and @amansalujaa were driving towards Redi Fort, Maharashtra - 10km away from Querim Area of Goa when I saw a man from far on the middle of a green field who bought his cattles to gaze. Instantly I dediced to meet him and say hello. When I saw him being so relaxed in what he does and his life, I wondered what else would he demand for? Where we in cities gets all what we want and things are readily and easily available yet we crave for more. Think AGAIN! One with Goku. Little Son Goku is now 2 months old. Photographing animals especially when they are little babiea is a tough job. They don't listen to anyone. But it's an amazing feeling to care, feed and grow a creature who only understands language of Love. It's a very big and a serious responsibility. Few weeks ago we were followed by this little cute demon to our home. We adopted him and I named him Goku (My Fav. Dragon Ball Z Character). I always had a dream to pet a dog and click his daily life moments and shape it as a story of him growing up and to take him to travel with me. . . . The Holy Jump. #Portrait of Varanasi in #blackandwhite . . The famous and mostly seen thing at the Ganges. One Place and so many lives and purposes. Kids of Varanasi doing their daily rituals and activities, Boatman driving the boats across the holy river, Brahmins enchanting prayers, Dhobis washing off the clothes and so many more. When you're in Bananas, you will not be the person you think you are. It's a different thing all together. The feelings, vibes are of another level. You can witness a lot of things that you not even dreamt of. You will know how simple life is and it's beautiful this way. Behind the Trails. The Milkyway Project. This Image is very special to me. Why? Because this was my first time when I captured #Milkyway on my #NikonD3300 . Smiling Brahmins. Varanasi has been a city older than Ages of humanity. One of the highly visited pilgrimage destination of the world with people visiting from across the world. I spent almost every mornings watching sunrise and looking how Varanasi woke up. I found a place on top on the riverbanks and observed different activities occurring. After the sunrise I walked on the ghats experiencing different lifestyle taking place around me. That's when I shot this image, when I saw these 2 brahmins walking on the street smiling on some funny fact. The smile on their face was so tempting that I couldn't control myself from clicking this image and the result is in front of you guys. Tring Tring..HELLO! Rings from Retro World. I shot this image when I was in Bangalore laat month during my trip of Hampi and Munnar. I was getting my backpack shoulder strap sewed where I came across this old telephone. It's very rare to find these telephones now. I still remember making calls to my first girlfriend from this phone back in 2008-2009 when I was in school. Back then it costed Re.1 for 60 seconds in local and 20 seconds for STD. I got nostalgic again all over my childhood. One more thing to notice is the blue part, where they have made Tilak signs a holy mark to as a believe of worshiping goddess laxmi(God of Money) in Hinduism. A Dream of a Traveler to be lost in Wilds. All he needed was a Bagpack, A @royalenfield Bullet, Helmet and a Tent.

What’s Up?

I have now traveled approx 1.5 months, started from Pune-South India-Eastern India-North India-Pune with as minimum budget as possible. Estimated overall expense of 15k, I have now completed this trip and I am on it to write my stories.

Story :- I got this random shot while I was reading a book inside my tent at @blackeaglescamp in Kolakumalai,Munnar,Kerela during my trip to Munnar on October'17.

Impact:- This Image speaks about a dream that everyone sees or imagine their lives to be. To Travel and stay like a nomad in wild. My intentions as a Traveler and shows that Traveling defines ME.

Eyes of a Child filled with unexplored dreams. If you look deeply, you can see the reflection of the hills in his eyes. His dreams to be on top can be determined. I shot this image during my trip to Hampi'17. After a long day I spent wandering around with some of my newly made friends in Hampi, we relaxed at Gali's Music Shop on the other side of the river where ae jammed whole afternoon and took rest for a while, we decided to rush to sunset point to enjoy an immense view of sunset. There I met Hari, A young kid who sold lemon masala tea for a living. I saw his eyes and as a photographer's instinct instantly I asked if I could click his portrait but me as a photographer always believed in exchanging in return of any service. So I made a deal with him that if he let me take his picture, I would Buy 2-3 Tea Cups. He agreed to the deal and I kept the deal intact. His eyes were one of the beautiful eyes I have ever seen. Such detailed structured eyeballs spoke about his character and innocence. A Dream of a Wanderer to be lost riding on roads to infinity. All he needed was a Bagpack, A @royalenfield Bullet, Helmet and a Tent. What's Up? Estimated overall expense of 15k, I am almost to complete this trip when I will be in pune a day after successfully. Story:- I got this Shot clicked by one of the members of @blackeaglescamp when we were on our way back to Munnar from Kolakumalai. We were on a Bike as we crossed a small waterfall by the roadside and opposite to it is a pullover stop with an amazing steep open view of the tea gardens farmed on lusty green hills, we stopped there to get some tea and refresh our minds for a while when this shot came in my mind. Three Men in a Boat. #Varanasi #India I shot this image during my trip of Varanasi. Last night I met few locals of Varanasi jamming on stairs inside a temple in Raja Ghat when I was walking around the Ghat from Assi Ghat towards Dashashwamedh Ghat. I heard melodious sound of flute and like always i couldn't control myself so I joined them.
