Chapter Index | Masterlist
Summary: You loved him so much you had to let him go so he could pursue his dreams. But years later after Robin, Steve, and your brother score tickets to a Corroded Coffin concert being held nearby, you take a chance and tag along. After all, it was a big venue and there’s no way Eddie would be able to pick you out in the crowd, right?
Content Warning: This fic will contain strong language, explicit sexual themes, mentions of alcohol and drugs, brief mention of sickness for those with Emetophobia (but not descriptive). I will update this as needed!
A/N: This chapter is a bit longer than others but uh, it's for good reason! This chapter is NSFW so take that as you will! As always, thank you so incredibly much for all of the sweet comments and messages! Please let me know if you wish to be added or removed from the taglist ♥ Enjoy and happy reading, my loves!
Wayne glanced over at his nephew as he, once again, sat flicking his lighter. This time he was in the passenger seat of Wayne’s beat up truck (that he refused to let Eddie replace with a shinier model) on the way to Eddie’s early morning doctor’s appointment.
“I recall a few months ago I told you I was gonna break your damn hand if you kept flicking that lighter.” He grumbled and quickly Eddie’s hand disappeared into the pocket of his denim vest, “What’s got you so antsy today?”
“Just…nothing, don’t worry about it.” Eddie mumbled as he pulled his lighter back out but accompanied by his pack of cigarettes this time.
“Now I know you’re not grating on my nerves for ‘nothin’.” Wayne said as he held his hand out and Eddie placed a cigarette and the lighter in his palm after lighting his own. He inhaled deeply and cracked the window just as he exhaled, watching the smoke as it was violently sucked out into the chilly November air.
“Just got stuff on my mind.” he said and Wayne cracked a grin as he pulled into the parking lot and brought the old tired truck to a stop.
“Someone, you mean?” He killed the engine and patted his pockets to check for his own cigarettes and wallet before stepping out of the truck and walking around to Eddie’s side. He grabbed the crutches out of the back as the scowling  twenty-five year old pushed the truck door open.
“Stop reading my mind, Wayne. It got old when I was a teenager, it’s old now.” he huffed as he took the crutches and slowly slid himself out of the seat.
“I don’t have to read your mind when it’s written all over your face, boy.” Wayne laughed as they started towards the door of the Orthopedic office. Wayne held the door open for his nephew and went and found a seat at the back of the office while Eddie got himself checked in.
“Guess I gotta work on my poker face around you.” Eddie said as he settled down into the chair and stretched his leg out. He couldn’t wait to get this damn cast off. It itched all the time and honestly he was tired of his limited mobility with it on.
“So you two just friends now or are you two finally mending things?” Wayne asked as he picked up a medical magazine and started flipping through the pages with little interest in its actual contents.
“We’re friends again. At least, I think we are.” Eddie said as he leaned his head back to rest against the pale yellow wallpaper. He closed his eyes and inhaled deeply as the memories of the past few weeks came flooding back. Shortly after your confession you two had found yourselves gravitating back to each other.
It started off with Eddie making excuses to stay in the kitchen while you were cooking, or helping to put folded towels and linens away for you while you took care of the clothes. You would turn the radio on and he would find himself singing along with you to whatever was playing, whether he liked the music or not, because he enjoyed the smile on your face as you two worked. Laundry moved on to helping dry dishes as you washed and rinse, Eddie’s watchful gaze on you as you moved around the kitchen to put them away in their rightful places.
Housework slowly and cautiously turned into him asking to accompany you to the store on one of your weekly grocery trips. Soon, every Saturday morning he found himself awake and dressed and waiting in the living room where he had a view of the driveway. He was up, crutches tucked under his arms and heading out the front door before you could even make it to the bottom of the porch steps. Dustin had mentioned once in a Hellfire meeting about Eddie taking his place and had asked if it was because of the extra groceries on the bill that never made it to the Munson’s.
“I don’t care about that, Henderson. I caught on forever ago.” Eddie laughed as he grabbed another slice of pizza from the box sitting off to the side of the table, “I’m just really enjoying going with her.”
“Oooo, Eddie and Y/N, sittin’ in a tree!” Erica, Lucas’ younger sister, teased from the opposite end of the table.
Eddie had tried to hush the group and pull their attention back to the game that night as they all joined in on the teasing but his burning blush on his cheeks kept the laughter and jokes fueled for the remainder of the evening. It was true though. On trips to the store Eddie found the two of you moving slowly up and down every aisle, the quiet of the grocery store only broken by the music playing over the speakers and the rhythmic taps of Eddie’s crutches on the tiled floor. He treasured these Saturday mornings but was afraid that maybe you were becoming suffocated by his constant presence. Your last trip to the store together as you waited in line side by side at the check out he cleared his throat to ask when you surprised him by suddenly but gently leaning your head over to rest against his shoulder. His heart felt like it was going to hammer straight out of his chest as he tried to find something, anything, to say to fill the silence. Instead though, out of fear he would stumble over his words and mess up the moment, he only smiled and let his head tilt in your direction to rest against the top of your own. He didn’t see the smile that lit up your face but he felt the slight shift as you let your body press ever so slightly closer to his.
Weekly dinners at the Munson’s also became a more frequent event. Instead of staying only for dinner on Saturdays after you two shopped and then you spent the day prepping meals for Wayne for the week, Eddie had asked you to start staying on the days you came over to tidy and clean as well. A few evenings it was just the two of you as Wayne still worked the night shift at the factory, though Eddie had managed to talk him down to part time to ease the stress off of his aging Uncle after Wayne refused outright to quit entirely. You had happily obliged to eat dinner and Eddie was happy to spend time petting Honeybee and throwing her favorite tennis ball from where he sat on the porch, leg propped up on a cushioned stool, as he waited. If the weather was nice you would serve dinner outside until it started to turn too cold for Wayne’s old bones to handle.
“Can you play your new song for me?” You had blurted out one night, Eddie nearly dropping the plate he was drying as he looked over at you with an eyebrow raised, “I heard you talking to Gareth on the phone last week about working on new music while you’ve been healing. I didn’t mean to eavesdrop but…I would really love to hear it, if that’s okay?”
After getting over his surprise (and giddiness of your interest) you had followed him to his room where he was quick to grab his guitar and get himself situated in the chair next to his amp. He could barely get through the song he had been diligently writing because he was infatuated with your excited smile as you sat cross-legged on his bed and watched him play.
That night the two of you became inseparable. You and Honeybee found yourself over at Wayne’s every day, each night after dinner ending with some form of dessert you’d managed to whip up for them and a movie that stretched into the late hours of the evening. You both would start off on separate ends of the couch with Honeybee laid out on the floor with a chew toy or snoozing with Wayne kicked back in his Lazy Boy if he was home. By the time you had reached the middle of the movie, without fail, Wayne was always asleep and you and Eddie had migrated closer and closer until your thighs were pressed together and his arm was stretched across the back of the couch. You were always tucked in against him, eyelids heavy with fatigue from the day and fought not to drift off to sleep as you felt Eddie’s fingers start to play with strands of your hair.
“You’re smiling an awful lot.” Wayne said and pulled Eddie from his welcoming thoughts.
“Just…yeah, we’re friends again.” Eddie said before the door opened and a smiling nurse with a clipboard in hand cleared her throat.
“Edward Munson? Ready to get out of that cast?”
* * * * * * * * *
“Look at you!” You said with delight as you stepped into Wayne’s kitchen, a paper grocery sack balanced on your hip as Eddie stood and hobbled (without crutches) to meet you, “You got your boot!”
“Few months with this bad boy and physical therapy and I will be like new!” he exclaimed proudly and placed his fists on his sides in a superhero pose. You squealed excitedly and set the groceries down on the table to wrap your arms around him in a tight hug.
“I’m so happy for you!”
“Y/N! Are you gonna help?” Dustin called from the front door and you giggled as you stepped back from Eddie.
“Hey, wait a minute, we go shopping on Saturday, it’s Friday.” Eddie said as he raised a playfully suspicious eyebrow, “Am I being fired from being your assistant?”
“No, you dork.” You laughed as you moved the grocery bag to the kitchen island, “I needed a few cleaning supplies and some things for dinner this evening that I forgot to get last trip.”
“Y/N!”
“Coming!” You called over your shoulder and quickly placed a kiss on Eddie’s cheek, “Rest your leg, you’re still healing.” With a pat to his arm you hurried off to the driveway.
“Just friends my ass.” Wayne huffed as he moved to start unpacking the groceries as Eddie opened the pantry and caught a can of vegetables tossed towards him.
“We’re just friends, Wayne.”
“You two look like you did back in high school again.”
“We’re just taking it slow.” Another can was tossed and Eddie was quick to catch it and put it in its place on one of the shelves.
“Eddie, I've seen the way you live life and your driving record. Slow is not a concept you grasp.” Wayne said just before the phone started ringing and he disappeared into the living room, “Munson residence. Oh, yeah, hang on. Eds! For you!”
Eddie shuffled to the living room as you and Dustin stepped through the door to finish bringing groceries inside.
“Eddie.” He said as he placed the receiver to his ear.
“Munson! How ya doin’ man?”
“Hey, Buck.” Eddie leaned back onto the arm of the couch to take the weight off his still healing foot and glanced up to where he could see you moving around the kitchen, laughing and smiling as you spoke to Wayne and Dustin.
“Sorry I haven’t called in about two weeks to check up on ya, I’ve been busy with the rest of the band. How’s the leg? Have you got your boot yet?”
“Just got it today.” He answered and returned your smile when you looked over at him and caught him staring.
* * * * * * * * * *
You kept looking over at Eddie as he spoke, watching the way he fidgeted as he began to grow more restless as the conversation continued. A slight frown pulled at the corners of your mouth as he presented his tell tale signs of agitation and discomfort.
“What’s wrong?” Dustin whispered and you shook your head as you turned your attention back to where you were setting ingredients down to get into the crock pot for dinner that evening.
“I don’t know.” You whispered back, “But he doesn’t look too happy.”
“Oh, I forgot to tell ya I won’t be here tonight.” Wayne said as he pulled out a fresh carton of cigarettes from one of the grocery bags and thanked you before continuing, “Roger’s truck broke down and he wants some help fixing it. Figured we’ll be workin’ and drinkin’ and I’ll be too far gone to drive home.”
“Oh! That’s fine I’ll put leftovers in the fridge for you so that you have it for dinner tomorrow.” You answered and turned to Dustin, “What about you, little brother? You gonna hang out with us for dinner tonight?”
“I would but I already promised Will and Mike that we’d grab Lucas and hit the arcade and the diner.”
“I hope you guys have fun then, tell them I said hello.”
“Will do! Mike should be here any moment to pick me up.”
Shortly after your conversation finished you watched as Eddie returned the receiver back to its cradle and ran his hands down his face before running them back up and into his curly mane. Dustin and Wayne had started a conversation of their own, one you weren’t even paying attention to, so you stepped away and moved to the troubled man in the living room.
“Hey.” You said softly as you placed your hand tenderly on his arm and caused him to jump from surprise, “What’s wrong?”
Instead of answering you right away he sighed and placed a hand on your arm to give it a firm but gentle squeeze before giving in and pulling you against him. He needed the comfort right now, “That was our manager.”
“Buck?”
“Yeah.”
You felt your heart fall to the pit of your stomach as you looked up to search his crestfallen eyes, “You’re leaving.”
“Tomorrow afternoon. Gareth is taking a red eye flight tonight apparently and is gonna fly back with me.” He answered and stood to his full height, “According to Buck we have a lot to catch up on and he wants to start putting in work on new music. He’s already gotten interviews lined up, meet and greets, and television appearances.”
“You’re gonna be really busy then.” You said as you tried to hide the sadness in your voice.
“I don’t know how long I’ll be gone. I’m hoping it’s only a few weeks, maybe just a month or two if I’m lucky.”
“Oh.” You said simply, swallowing hard as you blinked back threatening tears, “Well, let me go get dinner started so we can actually eat at a decent time tonight, okay? That way you can be well rested for your travels tomorrow.”
Eddie nodded but not before pulling you to him to place a reassuring kiss on the top of your head. You smiled and he saw the sadness behind it, the tears threatening to overflow, but he knew you needed this time to process the news.
He felt so spoiled by being with you so much and now it was getting ripped away from both of you.
He walked slowly down the hallway but felt victorious as he did it without crutches this time and pulled his suitcase out from under his bed to begin packing.
By dinner time Wayne and Dustin had both left and had promised to be back in the morning to see Eddie off at the airport before his departure. You sat across from Eddie at the table but neither one of you had much of an appetite. He watched you push a noodle from your beef stroganoff around your nearly full plate and he reached across the table to put his hand on yours.
“Come on.” He said after you looked up, your eye lashes still damp, “Let’s put this away and go watch a movie together, okay? Your choice.”
“Okay.” You answered quietly. You two moved in a comfortable silence as you cleaned up for the last time together. After dinner was packed away you were grabbing drinks and Eddie grabbed the movie you asked for. He popped it into the VCR and shut off the lights as you grabbed the blanket the both of you always ended up sharing. This time you went ahead and sat side by side on the couch, his arm already around you and his fingers running through your hair. He propped his leg up on the coffee table with a pillow already under it to cushion against the hard wood.
You tried to focus on the movie, you really did, but the smell of Eddie’s cologne, the closeness of his body, the way his fingers moved through your hair, it all was constant reminders that for God knew how long this was going to be the last time. You felt your throat start to constrict again as a lump formed and tears started to burn in your eyes.
“Shit.” You whimpered quietly and brought your hands up to press the heel of your palms against your eyes.
“What’s wrong, sweetheart?” Eddie asked as he sat up straight and turned his body to get a better view of you, “Hey, hey, don’t cry.” He gently pulled your hands away from your face and placed his finger under your chin to face him.
“I’m sorry, I’m just a little emotional.” You said softly and he pushed a lock of hair behind your ear, “I’m so spoiled rotten by spending every day with you and you’re gonna be gone and my life will go back to normal. To boring.”
“I’ll be back, I promise.” he tried to reassure you and you shrugged.
“I know you will but you don’t know when.” Another tear escaped and he used the pad of his thumb to wipe it away as he cupped your cheek, “I’m sorry I’m being so selfish.” You moved to pull away but he pulled you back and pressed his forehead to yours.
“You’re allowed to be selfish from time to time, you know that, right?” He murmured and gave you a sad smile of his own as you pulled your head back enough to look up at him. Your hand came up to rest over the one still cradling your face before you nuzzled your cheek into it.
“You promise to come back home? To come back to me?” You asked and Eddie felt his heart stumble over itself in excitement at your words. You were gonna wait for him this time. You weren’t walking away.
“You’ll be the first one I run to when I get off that plane.” He answered as his other hand moved to rest against the back of your neck, “I promise with everything in me.”
“I’m going to miss you so fucking much, Eddie Munson.” You sniffled and saw his quick intake of breath as his eyes dropped to your lips before looking back up into your own.
“C-can…” He choked out before having to clear his throat, “Can I-?”
“Please.” You cut him off and felt warmth spread in your chest as his sigh in relief.
“Thank fuck.” he whispered and pulled your head up as his came down to meet yours. You whimpered softly as his soft and pillowy lips pressed against your own and you immediately brought your hand up to thread into his wild mane of curls.
Eddie’s eyes nearly rolled back into his head as your lips molded to his perfectly. Fuck he had been waiting for this, wanting this, even dreaming about this since he left Hawkins. Both his hands now held your face to keep you to him. Your body shifted suddenly and without the kiss breaking you had moved to your knees before slinging one leg over his lap and settling down on top of him.
“God…damn…” he groaned and let his hands slide down your body till he held you at your waist. He felt his cock harden and his grip on you tightened as your hips moved forward to cause friction between the two of you as his teeth nipped at your lower lip.
“Eddie.” You sighed against his mouth when he hooked his fingers into the top hem of your pants.
“Fuck, I’m so sorry, I’m moving way too fast.” He apologized and you shook your head, your hands cradling his cheeks as you held his gaze with your own.
“Let me do it. Let me take the lead.” You whispered and ground your hips downwards again, smiling as Eddie tilted his head back with a groan. You watched his Adam's apple bob before he nodded and leaned forward to kiss and nip at the sensitive skin on his throat. Your name escaped his lips as a strangled plea when your mouth left a mark on his throat, your fingers slipping up under his shirt and dancing across the warm skin of his firm stomach and up to his chest.
“Off.” You whispered before you gave him a quick kiss and tugged at his shirt.
Eddie was happy to oblige and nearly ripped the old faded shirt from his body, tossing it onto the floor behind the couch before his hands moved back to your hips to slide under the thin fabric of your own shirt. His warm hands meeting your skin sent a shiver up your spine and your shirt was quick to join his. You traced the fingertips of one hand over the additional tattoos he had added along the past few years, watching as his chest moved with an inhale as he observed you studying him.
“Like what you see?” he teased and your gaze flicked back up to his. You tilted your head with a small smile before reaching behind you and popping the clasps to your bra, the lacy material falling free to crumble on his belly.
“You’re beautiful, Eddie.”
He sucked in a sharp breath and pulled you down so that your body was flush against his own as his lips met yours once more, his hands running down your back and over the curve of your ass.
“I need you.” You whispered against his lips and ground your hips down to run your still covered and aching sex over his erection.
Eddie was going to die right here on the spot. Every touch, every kiss, every whimper and moan he pulled from you threatened to fry his brain and set his nerve endings on fire. Never in a million years did Eddie think he would be right here with you again, watching you as you stood and slid your shorts and panties to the floor before straddling his lap again.
“Fucking Christ you’re still just as beautifull as I remembered.” He said through an exhale as he reached up to pull your mouth back down to his. He slid his hand from your waist to run down your thigh before cupping your cunt and letting a finger slip between your slick folds. He took advantage of your sudden gasp into the kiss and slid his tongue into your mouth and against your own.
“You’re so wet.” Eddie whispered against your lips and you nodded as you rested your forehead against his, “All for me?”
“Just for you, Eddie.” You whimpered and reached down to shove at his black sweatpants he had changed into earlier. He lifted his hips beneath you and shoved them down his thighs to free his achingly hard cock, failing to stop the growl that rumbled in his chest when your hand immediately wrapped around it and slowly began to pump up and down.
“Fuck…fuck, sweetheart…” he groaned and leaned his head back against the couch. You smiled as you stroked the velvety soft skin of his cock and brought your other hand down to cradle his balls and give them a firm squeeze. His head shot up and he grabbed on to your thighs as he watched your hands, his big brown eyes looking up at you as his jaw slackened.
“You’re so beautiful like this, Eddie.” You leaned forward and kissed him, your hand coming up and threading your fingers into his hair as your other lined him up to your soaking entrance, “I’ve missed seeing you like this, so wanting and needing when I have my hands on you.”
Eddie couldn’t string a coherent thought together at this point and only moaned and whimpered as you teased his cock head through your glistening folds. Your hips jerked when it brushed your swollen clit and you bit down on your bottom lip, finally settling it at the entrance to your cunt.
“Do you want this?” You asked him softly and he turned his half-lidded gaze up to you, “After…after everything.”
“Sweetheart.” He began, his voice thick and heavy as his chest expanded and his stomach contracted with a deep breath when you settled your hips and he felt the head start to slip in, “You gotta stop looking back at where we came from and start paying attention to what’s in front of us. I have wanted this, wanted you, for way longer than I want to admit out loud.”
With that you let your hips finish lowering and Eddie watched as your head fell back. He watched his cock slowly split you open as you seated yourself fully on to him and had to fight back the urge to come right then and there.
“Holy shit.” he moaned as a breathy and high pitched ‘fuck’ spilled from your lips. They way you squeezed him as you started to move your hips to grind against him had his fingers digging into the fat of your thighs that would leave the ghost of his fingerprints tomorrow but tonight neither one of you cared.
“Feel okay?” You asked softly as you braced a hand against his chest, the other resting on the back of his neck as you moved. You angled your hips and began to slowly slide up and down his length.
“Feels perfect, sweetheart.” he said breathily as his hands moved from your thighs to cup your breasts, the pads of his thumbs tracing the bottoms of your nipples and causing you to suck in a breath and your pussy to clamp tight around him for a second. Eddie leaned his head up and brought one into his mouth as his hand kneaded and massaged the other breast.
“Eddie…” You whispered and wrapped your arms around him to keep him held to you as you started to quicken the bounce of your hips. He was hitting deep with every downward slam of your hips, his cocked curved perfectly to rub against the spongy muscle that sent your eyes rolling back in your head and your mouth hanging open. His lips worked to keep your nipple sucked into his mouth, his teeth biting it just enough to cause a slight sting before he soothed the ache with his tongue.
He felt a heat pooling in his belly as he moved to worship your other breast. A shiver ran up his spine as he felt the muscles in his belly and abdomen start to contract and a slight tightness began to build up in his balls.
Fuck, you were divine. He could write an album’s worth of devotional songs just on you and your body alone. He could feel the way you were starting to tighten around his cock, watched the way your chest was rising and falling rapidly as your breathing hastened. He tilted his head up and slid his fingers into your hair before he gripped the back of your head and pulled you down to kiss him for just a quick second.
“Use me.” He mumbled against your lips, “I want to feel you come, sweetheart. I want to watch you as you unravel and come undone.” You reached behind you to brace a hand on the thigh of his good leg and leaned your body back to give him a good view of your needy and hungry cunt as you worked your hips up and down on him. He watched the creamy ring start to form where you two were joined and brought a hand down to gather some on his thumb before pressing it to your clit. You let out a quick and surprised cry and he only smiled as he started to rub your clit in quick circles.
“There we go. She loves that, doesn’t she?” he asked and you only managed a nod as your hips now quickened. Your other hand rested against his belly and he relished in the feeling of your fingernails digging into his skin to leave little crescent moon imprints behind.
“Eddie…oh fuck I’m so close.” You whimpered as your back began to arch towards him.
“I know, baby, I feel it. Come on, sweetheart, you’re almost there.” he urged and felt the tightness of you squeezing him, “Shit, please tell me you’re still on birth control because if not you’re gonna have to get off real soon.”
“Still on it, please don’t pull out…fuck!” Your head threw back as your hips suddenly stilled and your muscles locked around him, Eddie’s thumb still circling rapidly on your now throbbing clit. He was pushed over the edge when he felt the trickle of your release begin to drip from where you two were joined and down his balls. His muscles in his stomach and back began to contract as his cock released ropes of cum into your fluttering cunt. He leaned back against the couch as his body tingled and his legs felt like jelly, a smile forming on his mouth when you leaned down to tuck your body against his.
“You are amazing.” he whispered and felt your lips leave a soft kiss against the skin of his neck, “Why don’t we get cleaned up and go tuck ourselves into bed, hm?”
“You want me to stay the night?” you asked as you leaned up enough to meet his eyes.
“Of course, you think I was just gonna get post nut clarity and kick you out? Please, babe. I never thought this would happen between us again, of course I want you to stay the night.” You smiled and leaned forward to capture his lips with your own before sliding off of his lap to stand up.
“I’d love to stay the night.”
* * * * * * * * * *
“I better not catch your ass in another tabloid or news story, you hear me?” Wayne warned as he held Eddie in a headlock and ruffled his hair with his other hand.
“Ow, damn, old man! I get it!” Eddie laughed as he tried to pull his head free, “Gareth help a guy out!”
“No can do, dude! He’s got a point.” Gareth only laughed as he held his suitcase in one hand and ticket in the other.
“We gotta board soon and I gotta tell my girl bye!” Eddie pleaded as an announcement rang out over the airline intercom, “Wayne!”
“Alright alright, you lovesick fool.” Wayne huffed but let Eddie go and gave him a pat on the back. Dustin stepped to the side to give Eddie room to stand in front of you and he reached up to tuck a finger under your chin.
“I’ll call you every night.” he promised and you only smiled and shook your head.
“You’re gonna be busy, Eds. Don’t stress over me.” You answered and he shook his head in response.
“I’ll call you. Every. Night.” he reiterated and then leaned down to press his lips against yours for a firm kiss. Your arms moved up to wrap around his neck as his hands held your hips.
“Ew.” Dustin gagged but Eddie’s only response was to flip him off without breaking his goodbye kiss with you.
“Eddie I hate to break this goodbye but we’re boarding.” Gareth said and Eddie groaned as he pulled his head back.
“I’ll be back quicker than you realize, okay? Please…don’t give up on me.”
“Eddie, I’ll be right here in Hawkins waiting for you. I promise. I’m not running this time unless it’s straight to you.” With another quick kiss you stepped back and watched as Eddie gathered his bags and waved to everyone as he and Gareth started towards their gate.
“Shit.” You whispered as you reached up and wiped away tears that had started to trickle down your cheeks, Dustin reaching over and placing a hand on your back.
“He’ll be back, I promise.” he said and watched as Eddie turned to look at you three one more time, “Maybe sooner than we thought.”
You laughed through the tears as Eddie hurried (as fast as he could with that boot) back over to you and gave you another kiss before he wiped your tears away and tucked something into your hands.
‘Eddie!” Gareth called as he threw his hands up in the air.
“Keep this safe for me.” he whispered and walked off to join Gareth and finally board their plane. You looked down at Eddie’s favorite bandana tucked into your hand, the one he wore at every concert, and smiled as you held it close to your heart.
“Just please be safe.” you whispered and watched him as he faded from sight.

A bag of frozen peas sits against Eddie’s cheek as he wears a glare on his face. Dustin sits across from him with a bag of ice against his knuckle with a solemn expression. The ride back to Dustin’s house was silent. Both men were filled with anger at each other. Eddie couldn’t recognize why Dustin had hit him. Dustin couldn’t recognize the man Eddie had become. After Five minutes of silence Eddie leans back into the couch taking the peas from his face.
“What am I doing here, Dustin?”
Dustin shrugs his shoulders. The audacity for Eddie to even ask him that, “You tell me, Eddie.”
Eddie rolls his eyes. Of course he answers a question with a question.
“I thought I was here to patch things back up with my spouse but it turns out they’re pregnant and planning on leaving me behind. To make matters worse a friend, oh excuse me,” Eddie pauses dramatically and rolls his hand towards Dustin, “Someone I thought was a friend knew about it and didn’t think to tell me!”
Dustin feels himself get defensive over such a bold statement. How could he not consider Dustin a friend after everything they’ve been through? Dustin wants to bite back. To say something that’ll hit him deep. He knows Eddie likes to play with fire and meeting him with anger won’t get them anywhere. Instead, Dustin only shakes his head at Eddie with a sad smile on his face.
“Something I’m missing, Henderson?” Eddie sees the look on Dustin’s face. He’s so blinded by his own rage he can’t decipher if it’s genuine or just to mess with him. He guided him throughout high school. Gave him a reason to look forward to brighter days and now he’s indulging in Eddie’s dark days.
Dustin should feel taken back by the accusation. He should tell Eddie to cool off and think about what he’s saying. But, he can’t. He doesn’t even want to help the stranger in front of him.
“What happened to you, Eddie?”
Eddie’s taken back by his question. What does he even mean?
“I don’t even know who you are anymore.” Dustin sees the way Eddie’s eyes soften. His mouth opens to defend himself but he can’t. Dustin stares at Eddie with pure disbelief in his eyes. “You used to be so caring. So loving to all of the lost sheep. Now you’re nothing but cold. You’re a liar and a cheater.”
Eddie hangs his head not baring to see his long time friend call him out on his actions.
“The Eddie I knew would have never done what you’ve done. The Eddie I knew kept his promises. The Eddie I knew would hate the Eddie that’s sitting in front of me.”
Eddie doesn’t say anything. He just looks at the wedding band on his finger that lays heavier than the rest. He knows he fucked up. Everyone seems to remind him every chance he gets.
“I didn’t know Birdy was pregnant until today.” Dustin watches as Eddie tucks his ring finger in, cracking the air out of the bone. It’s a cruel reminder of his greatest mistake. He refuses to take it off.
“But knowing what I know now, I wouldn’t have told you.”
Eddie snaps his eyes up. They’re hard and his jaw goes tight. Dustin doesn’t back down, not taking his words back.
“You. Know. Nothing.” Each word out of Eddie’s mouth is gritted out slowly through his teeth. How dare he make an assumption before hearing him out?
Dustin scoffs, crossing his arms over his torso. “Oh yeah? Enlighten me then, Eddie. Enlighten me how you could go and throw away your marriage to the one person who stood by your side for years? Please do tell how you think it’s okay to treat everyone around you like shit and expect to not get called out on it? Tell me how you became the very thing you despised?”
A liar.
The bag of peas that rested on Eddie’s face are thrown onto the coffee table and he’s standing up. He tells Dustin he doesn’t owe him any explanation. Telling him he doesn’t need him. Dustin doesn’t even try to stop him watching him walk to the front door. Eddie’s hand reaches the front door when Dustin decides he’s going to get the last word.
“Yeah that’s right, Eddie. Do what you do best and run away from the problems you create.”
The words cut deep. They hit a core that Eddie had buried long ago. Eddie wants to defend himself but he can’t. He wants to turn around and shove those words right back down Dustin’s throat. But he doesn’t. Instead he opens the door and leaves Dustin’s house.
The town he’s so used to leaving and coming back to has never felt so unwelcoming. He feels alone. He thinks walking along the side of the road will clear his head but all he can think about is the look on your face as you told him how he’d have nothing to do with the baby. How you told him it was his fault your first child didn’t make it into the world. How you told him he left you to do it on your own.
The man he’s turned into makes him physically sick. He should have manned up from the start and came to you with his fears. You’ve never once turned him away. Always welcoming him to break down his walls. Why did he even let that night happen? He didn’t even know her name until she came by with a positive test. A moment he should have been sharing with you. A moment and more that he’ll never get now.
He stops by a stop sign and leans over emptying his stomach filled with bile and disgust. A few cars pass by and one honks at him to which Eddie flips them off.
A few moments go by and Eddie stands up straight wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. He stands up and leans against the stop sign. He wonders if you’re going through morning sickness. If you’re having to deal with it every moment of the day. He wonders how far along you are. You couldn’t have been more than 16 weeks if he did his math correctly. He thinks about how big the baby must be. He begins to miss you. He misses the home he found in you. But he knows better than to even try now especially after the whole fiasco at the diner.
The pain in his cheek intensifies after emptying his stomach. He winces. Not just from the pain but from the person who caused it. He’s losing Dustin. There’s no telling if Dustin will ever come back. Way to royally fuck that one up, he thinks. Eddie starts to walk along the road again, this time weakness in his legs. He knows he needs to go somewhere.
There’s only one place he feels that will welcome him.
He doesn’t even realize he’s making his way there until the gravel on the road turns into the dirt at the end of the street. He makes his way to the one person who never turned their back on him. The one person who raised him better than this.
He stops in front of the familiar trailer he used to call home. The lights are on inside indicating he was home. He feels the shame creeping up and he wants to run. But he knows better than that. With a final sigh to himself he gains enough courage to step up to the door. His knuckles give a few taps and a few moments go by before he hears a grumpy voice telling whomever is on the other side that he’s not interested in whatever they’re selling.
Eddie wants to smile at this. Of course he’s still the same. Always telling people to go away rather than getting up and seeing his visitors. He clears his throat instead.
“It’s me, Wayne. It’s Eddie.”
There’s silence on the other side of the door for three minutes. Eddie is about to knock again when the door swings open. Wayne stands there, still in his work shirt, looking at Eddie.
He doesn’t ask what he’s doing there. He never has. Instead he does the only thing he’s ever done to the man he’s loved as his own son. One of the first things Wayne taught Eddie was that family takes care of their own.
The love between people is stronger than the hate the world throws at us. Even if it’s been months since Eddie has spoken to Wayne, he feels the coldness in his heart pick away seeing his uncle open the door wider. Eddie watches as Wayne turns back around to take his seat on the couch.
“Close the door behind you, you’re letting the good AC out.”
——-
You finish packing up the last box. Sweat is thick in your hair and your back feels like someone just kicked it but you’re finally done packing.
The majority of your things sit in a storage unit for now until you find help to move it all into your bare apartment. Your trunk is full and the last box now sits under you as you take a much needed break. It’s odd to see how bare the white walls that once held memories. A pen drop could be heard from how empty the once loving house was.
Four weeks had passed since you saw Eddie at the diner. He had gone radio silent on your end and you refused to break the line. Dustin told you he gave the paperwork to Eddie two weeks ago. He pleaded for you to hear Eddie out before you moved forward. You simply hung up and called your lawyer that night and told them to be ready for the paperwork.
The apartment you got yourself only held an air mattress and your clothes were still shoved into your suitcase. But you didn’t care. It was yours and you were finally out of Hawkins. It’ll be filled with furniture and love for your child in due time.
The phone on the wall rings startling you from your thoughts. Dammit, you forgot to cut the line. You decide to blame that on your pregnancy brain but forgive yourself quickly seeing that you’re doing this all alone. You watch it ring debating if you should answer it. He wouldn’t be stupid enough to call? The realtor has your new number so it couldn’t possibly be them? Could it be— It stops ringing. You shrug your shoulders, must have been a telemarketer.
A hand runs through your sweaty hair. Thank God you kept the AC on until the house was officially sold, but constantly moving and lifting the light boxes did a number on you. You think back to when you and Eddie first moved into the house. How it took you guys two months to unpack everything because he wanted to christen every room nearly every night.
Eddie.
Your mind wanders off to him. Eddie should be off to his next gig by now. It wasn’t like him to stay long in town, always stopping in then leaving on the next flight out. It’s a wonder your marriage lasted this long. Then again, you thought it’d last forever. Your heart stings at the happy memories of making vows to each other. All of it was thrown away for one night. You shake your head standing from the mattress in your room. You can’t afford to think about that now. He didn’t think about you when he stuck his dick in someone else. Exactly how many other women were there before this one caught him? Your chest starts to hurt. Not due to heartburn caused by the little human growing in you. Due to the man that put them inside of you. Stop. Why should you think about him? Stop. Stop thinking about that. Stop thinking of him. He’s probably too busy getting ready for his love child.
Subconsciously your hand holds your stomach. You’re 24 weeks now, nearing 25 soon. You had your check up last week and your doctor told you to expect butterfly movements anytime soon.
That was seven days ago and you still haven’t felt anything. Anxiety settled in you regardless of him telling you everything was looking good. You didn’t even get to go to a second check up for your first pregnancy so you should feel happy. At least that’s what you kept telling yourself. He told you that they should have started, but reminded you every pregnancy was different. That didn’t help your nerves at all.
It stings to know Eddie is sharing your moments with another woman. Someone not married to him. Someone who didn’t spend years learning and loving every flaw of him.
The phone rings again. This time it never stops as if the person on the other line keeps dialing the number.
Your words fly out before you fully pick up the phone and tuck it under your ear. “What do you want?”
“Hi-hi, Birdy.”
His voice registers through your mind faster than you can process it. He sounds taken aback by your rude answers.
Definitely not a telemarketer.
“Wayne?”
You hear the other line clear their throat. “Y-yeah, it’s Wayne. How are you doing, sweetheart?”
Tears fill your eyes as comfort washes over you just hearing him. He was always so good to you. Taking you in as his own the moment Eddie introduced you to his life. It’s been months since you last spoke to him and you wish you hadn’t forgotten him while you got caught up in your own world. The last time you spoke to him was right before Eddie came home and told you about his mistress. You had called Wayne early in the day to let him know. He told you he had work but promised to come by later to see you two. And now you’re talking to him now, life has completely turned upside down.
You tell him you’re doing okay. He knows that you want to say more but respects your short answer. He’s never been one for small talk. Something you loved about him. He clears his throat once more, feeling the awkward silence.
“Listen, I got some papers for you. I would drive them up but every time I go by the house you’re not home.”
You curse to yourself. Of course Eddie didn’t tell him you were leaving. Feeling guilty for not keeping your father in law up to date you feel yourself reaching for your keys in your back pocket.
“Yeah, no it’s okay Wayne. I’m sorry,” you pause trying to think of the right words to say. Should you tell him this is no longer a home to you? Eddie should be the one to keep his own father figure up to date with his life. Surely, he has to know now if Eddie gave him the divorce papers. “If you’re home I can come pick them up.” You don’t wait for him to tell you no, opting to tell him a white lie so he knows you’re not going out of your way to get them. “I’m headed towards your side of town anyways. Mind if I just get them?”
You hear Wayne give you an uneasy okay and you tell him you’ll see him soon. The line goes dead. You look down at your growing bump cursing Eddie once more for making you lose another person in your life.
——
Wayne is outside when you pull up to the trailer. You can’t help but give him a short wave when he smiles at you. Everything still looks the same. Wayne never was one for change. Always telling you he didn’t feel the need to fix something that wasn’t broken.
The car shuts off and he opens your driver door greeting you as you step out. He goes to give you a hug but stops when you reach your arms out.
Confusion hits you feeling insecure by his sudden movement. It’s not until you realize his eyes are on your growing stomach that you understand. His eyes travel up to meet yours and you give him a half hearted smile. You know he wants to ask questions. It technically is his grandchild and he’s never done you wrong. Even if Eddie cheated you know he didn’t raise him to be that way. He did the best he could and you always held high respect for him.
“He told me you were pregnant.” He lets his thoughts go without thinking. “Yup, you’re definitely pregnant.”
You lightly push his shoulder. “I’m not that big, Wayne. You’re going to make me insecure.” He widens his eyes realizing how his comments sound and you laugh.
He doesn’t apologize. You don’t mind at all. You lean against your car and look at his trailer. Not a single thing has changed nor will it ever. Yet, it still brought you comfort that with your world changing you had the reminder that the rest of the universe still carried on.
“Listen,” He breaks you from your mind and you give him your full attention. “You know I think of you as my own, right?” You nod. He’d never given you a reason to not believe otherwise. “Regardless of what happens you’re still my family. Family looks out for each other. I’ll always want you to do what’s best for you.”
You feel the tears brimming up in your eyes. Hormones. He pulls you in for a hug this time and wraps his arms around your shoulders.
“You’re not alone. You’ll always have me.” He pulls back and looks at you as a few tears break through the damn and fall down your face. “If you’ll allow me to be there for you.” You wipe your cheeks and give him a watery smile.
You both don’t say anything as he guides you to his door. It was always peaceful with Wayne. He was never one sided. Always looking to see what’s best for you and Eddie and never minding to tell you two to figure it out. Even now with him telling you you’re still his family you feel comfort knowing at least one Munson was always genuine with you.
You both stand in front of the front door. His hand pauses on the doorknob. You wait for him to turn it. He looks at you and a flash of guilt crosses his face.
“Like I said, I’ll always want you to do what’s best for you.”
You don’t get a chance to question him as he opens the door and guides you in. He walks you both into the living room where the tv is turned on to an episode of Wheel of Fortune. Wayne stuffs his hands in the pockets of his jacket walking you two the small kitchen table. On top it sat the manila envelope holding the divorced papers.
You go to take it but Wayne’s voice stops you.
“They’re not signed.”
This is a joke, right? The words are said aloud without you realizing it. It’s been weeks and they’re still not signed. How hard is it to sign the papers?
Frustration is written on your face as your head throws back. Your hand is holding onto your bump for some comfort. A habit you picked up on the moment your belly started poking out. This has gone on long enough.
“Then why am I here, Wayne?”
Wayne sighs as he takes a step back from you. You stand still not knowing what to do. You watch him go for the front door. He stops and looks over at you.
“I can’t apologize for his actions. And I can’t forgive him for you. But I can at least try to give you closure.”
The bedroom opens. Your blood runs cold. The TV in the background is a blurred noise and you feel your heart pound against your chest. Why is he here? He’s not supposed to be here.
Eddie stops by the doorway. He watches as your face goes blank. By instinct his eyes travel down and they land on your growing bump. He feels his throat get dry and his ears start to ring. Your body is beautifully carrying his child.
Wayne clears his throat but you don’t pay attention. Instead you feel like you're glued onto the floor. You go to turn away, or so you think, but you’re stuck. Why can’t you turn around and walk out the door?
“I’ll leave you two here to talk it out.”
The front door opens and closes. The air is thick with unspoken words. Neither one of you breaks the tension. He takes a step out of the doorway and fully into the living room. You stay by the table. He carefully walks to you until he’s five steps away.
Up close you see that the bags under his eyes are more noticeable. His frown lines got deeper. His cheeks are sunken in as if he hasn’t been eating. He looks horrible.
“Can we talk?”
Hearing his voice snaps you out of the trance. Seeing him, being in the same room as him causes butterflies of nerves to erupt in your stomach. Turn and walk away, you tell yourself. It’s like your legs finally listen and strength in your legs to turn to the door. Eddie runs over to stop you. His hand takes yours. You jerk it out of his as if his touch burns you. It does burn you. The lingering feeling of hands stay on you and you want to scrub it off.
“Don’t,” you hiss at him. He doesn’t back down. You take a step to the side. He meets you. Every step he’s blocking your every move.
“You don’t have to talk, I'm just asking for you to listen.”
You scoff at him. The audacity. The envelope on the table stands out to you.
“Sign the damn papers and maybe I’ll consider.” It’s a buff. You won’t consider it. You’ve made up your mind. You’re going. And he can go straight to Hell.
He gets pushed aside when you grab his shoulder and shove him. He stands tall. You don’t back down. Both of you are trying to get one another to move. You shove him hard enough for his feet to stumble. He hits the wall beside the door.
“I’m not going to fight you for custody.”
You stop.
“I’ll sign the divorce papers. I’ll give you what you want.” His breath hitches but his voice remains firm. “I’ll give you whatever you want. You can have the house. You can have the car. You can have it all. Just please listen to what I have to say.”
You want to tell him to shut up. Tell him you don’t owe him anymore of your time. But the human growing instead of you tugs at your emotions. Not having to go through another battle of signing battles for custody is too good. So you turn around and lean your back against the door.
“You have five minutes, Munson.”
Eddie nods his head as a hand pinches the bridge of his nose. He doesn’t know where to start. But as he looks at you with the anger written across your face he knows he better start somewhere.
“You’re doing the right thing. You need to leave.” Fuck, that didn’t come out the right way. You raise an eyebrow at him. He cuts you off feeling that strange feeling in his chest start to come up. “Because I don’t need our child to grow up thinking that what I did is okay. That they can get treated the same way.” His words are fast but you keep up just fine. He had a tendency of speaking faster when he was nervous. A habit you had loved despite his hatred of it.
He steps to the table, swiping the envelope. He flips to the third page and gives it to you. You’re apprehensive to take it but do it. He nods his head down for you to follow what he’s getting at.
Right there is his signature. It’s more like a scribble but you can make out the big E followed by the M.
He had signed the papers.
Relief should have taken over. Happiness that you were one step closer to being free from him. But sadness settles in. Eddie doesn’t miss the way your bottom lip turns down. But then he sees the way you swallow and then stand up straighter. He hears you clear your throat and give him the dead expression in your eyes.
He’s lost you.
Eddie chews on his bottom lip. His eyes glance to your tummy then back up at you. “You deserve better. And I’m so sorry I couldn’t do it. It hurts like hell because I love you. But I love our child more to give them better.”
Our child. Something about that word sets off an unsettling feeling inside. Does he think doing this will make you fall for his bullshit again? You can’t help the burning question in the back of your mind. Jealousy and hurt entangled together. His actions cut you deep. But you want to cut him deeper. The queasiness in your stomach grows stronger.
You keep your expression neutral and settle your shoulders back. “Is that what you said to her?”
His gaze is intense but he never falters it. “The kid isn’t even mine.”
He’s kidding right?
There’s no way.
What?
Confusion is clear on your face. Millions of questions pop up and you want to ask them all. But then you look at him. You really look at him as he watches the different phases of your emotions run across your face. You see his wedding ring is still on. He sees the way your shit slides up on our belly revealing your soft skin.
You want to laugh at him. So you do. The growing belly bounces with you causing you to hold a hand to it. The laugh out of your lips is nothing but hollow and heartless. Eddie doesn’t stop you. Just accepts that he’s a laughing stock. He doesn’t look at all broken up about it.
“I got the paternity test last week.” He looks down at the floor. “It doesn’t excuse my actions but it’s one less thing to worry about.” The laughter stops.
Thing. One less child to worry about. Not thing to worry about.
A ping of pain stings into the middle of your back. By default you lean forward pressing your hand into your back. The extra weight you’re putting on not being so kind to your spine. You choose to ignore it looking Eddie dead on, “You’re damn right it doesn’t excuse shit what you did.”
He nods in agreement. It throws you off guard. He’s actually listening to you. The Eddie you know would be shoving all of your wrong doings in your face. The same Eddie that yelled at you not too long ago in the same parking lot he took you on your first date too. The man in front of you just accepts his faults that you throw at him. Who got a hold of him? Who made him look in the mirror?
You take the chance to start asking what’s been heavy on your mind the moment your marriage crumbled. He watches as you lean against the door crossing your arms over your chest. A sign of you pulling away from him.
Your voice is barely above a whisper. “Why did you even do it, Eddie? We were so happy.”
Eddie’s looking at your belly when you finish the sentence. Almost looking like he’s lost in thought. But when he leans forward with hands clasped you know he’s far from lost. He’s here giving you what you need to move on.
“I was upset. After you called me and told me,” he stops mid sentence. His bottom lip wearies but he shakes his head with a cough in his throat. He needs to get it out regardless of how painful it is for him to bring it up. “When you told me,” he starts again, this time moving his eyes from your tummy to the floor. “When you told me the baby didn’t have a heartbeat I couldn’t help but think it was my fault. I left you alone when I should have been by your side.”
His voice is weary and unwavering. The discomfort in your back spreads. You want more answers but you need to sit if you’re going to get them. You pull out a chair from the table and sit down. Eddie takes this as a good sign but the look you shoot him with a hand to your back tells him you’re only making yourself comfortable for your sake. Not his. He gives you a soft smile. You stomach flips at the action.
He sits on the arm of the couch across from you. Both of you are at ease with each other. The walls you built around you stand tall but Eddie doesn’t push to put a dent into them. Instead he accepts them. He accepted it the moment he saw the look of hatred in your eyes when you told him you blamed him for losing the baby.
“I know it’s my fault. I shouldn’t have left you to deal with the stress of going through that alone while I’m out on the road. I know I deserve to live with that guilt.”
You shake your head. As much as his actions disgusts you, you know you should have never said those words to him. No one deserves to live with that pain. It wasn’t his fault. It wasn’t your fault. The words of venom you spouted are him at the diner playing through your mind. The blame was never in him. Nor you. You just wanted to hurt him like he hurt you.
“It wasn’t your fault. It wasn’t mine. It just wasn’t meant to happen at the time, Eddie.”
He doesn’t believe a word. His thoughts have been nothing but of you and everything he’s done wrong. “I left you behind to deal with it.”
Neither of you say anything else. Both of you are looking at each other in the same trailer. You look around it. You try to picture another set of footsteps running around here with Grandpa Wayne. Wayne would love this child unconditionally like he did Eddie.
You feel your anger replace with sadness. This isn’t how it was supposed to go. How did he let his lust take over and throw everything down the drain? The continued silence begins to suffocate you. Your hand runs across your belly. The butterflies flutter again. Your breathing stops but Eddie’s too busy trying to tell you what he needs to tell you before you decide it’s not worth your time anymore.
It’s Eddie that speaks up, breaking the silence. The conversation is long from done.
“You don’t deserve a shitty husband. But our child deserves a great father and I can be that. It’s not about you. It’s not about me. It’s about our baby and they deserve what we never had.”
You don’t give him anything. The look on your face is unreadable and he wants to kick himself. He wants to hide in a hole and never come out of it. But he needs you to say something. Even if it’s you telling him to fuck off.
“Please say something, Birdy.”
You look at him with your hand on your stomach. Tears blur your vision. Fuck, what did I say, Eddie curses to himself. It’s not until you take your other hand and look at him biting back your tears.
“Give me your hand.”
Eddie looks alarmed. Why the fuck do you need—
“Eddie give me your hand now or you’ll regret this for the rest of your life.” That snaps him out of gear. He jumps up from his spot on the couch and jobs over to you. You take his hand and place it on your belly. He goes to ask what’s going on but you shush himS
A few moments go by and you feel him start to lift his hand but you keep it in place. “Just… just wait.”
Your tummy moves in and then out against his hand. Eddie’s eyes go wide. The look he gives you asks if he really just felt what he felt. The tears in your eyes tells him everything he needs to know. The butterflies you felt weren’t nerves. They were your baby’s movement in your tummy.
You both never experienced this the first time around.
Something about feeling your baby lights ignites something in you. The anger and sadness you’ve felt for weeks begins to fade away the more you feel little peanut dance inside of you. A strength grows in you each day.
Eddie feels grateful to feel this. He thanks you and bends down to kiss your covered belly. You see the way he freezes and know he did it out of instinct. He looks up at with a guilty look. I’m sorry I didn’t mean to do that. The reality of the situation settles in. You were having a baby with a man you couldn’t be with.
All the negative emotions you had towards Eddie swims away. He did you so very wrong. Yet, he gave you one last parting gift and you would cherish it for as long as you live. You couldn’t hate him. He does that enough of himself. Instead, a peace comes over you feeling the flutters in your tummy. The unconditional love replacing the hatred harbored in your heart.
He takes his hands away from your belly. He stays kneeling in front of you. You watch him and feel him wipe away the happy tears that escaped. He holds your cheek running his thumbs under your eyes wiping your face dry.
Eddie looks at you. It’s just the two of you inside the trailer. No one else here. Yet, he finds himself whispering his apologies to you.
“I’m so sorry, Birdy,” the sincerity in his eyes captivates you. His words are nice but his actions outweigh them. “I’ll spend the rest of my life regretting what I did. I don’t expect you to forgive me. I don’t even expect you to forget what I did. But I am asking you to give me a chance to be a good father.”
You don’t touch him. Your hands don’t hold onto his like they always did whenever he comforted you. They lay limp in your lap. The question that had been burning in the back of your mind pops up.
“How many other people were there?”
“No one else. Just that one night.” He’s quick with his answer. Not even an ounce of hesitation. Still, it’s not enough. It’s one too many.
Eddie’s hands let go of your face and he pulls back a strand of hair behind your ear. “I’m sorry I failed you. But I won’t fail our child.” You find yourself looking at those chocolate eyes you used to lose yourself in. It’d be your luck for your baby to come out with those same eyes just for the universe to remind you that you’re not in control. Your voice is barely a whisper but strong when you look at him. Truly look at the man in front of you. Even with him doing you wrong you know it’s not your choice to take away his chance at being a good father. Depriving your child of having him in their life wasn’t a choice you could take away from them when they haven’t even gotten a chance to meet him.
“What if I did it?”
He looks taken back.
“What if I had been the one to cheat Eddie? Gotten pregnant by someone else. Would you forgive me?”
Eddie opens his mouth then closes it just ask quickly. He stutters out a quick yes but you know that’s far from the truth.
“Every time I look at you I just see you with someone else, Eddie. I don’t know if I’ll be able to look at you the same.”
The way your bottom lip quivers is enough to break Eddie in two.
“I won’t be a monster to keep my child away from their father. Our marriage is between us. However, I will protect my child from heartache.”
This is the end of your marriage. But it’s not the end of you.
You stand up from the chair knowing what you have to do more than even. Your decision is clear on the table. He stays in front of you. Looking down at your feet. You take your hands and gather his face in between yours. His tears fall as he looks up at you. Your thumbs wipes them away just like how he did to you.
“I’m going to file the paperwork tomorrow. I suggest you get your shit together if you want to be a part of this baby’s life.”
You remove your hands from his face. He falls back on his knees.
You walk out of the trailer with the envelope under your arm. Wayne sits on a lawn chair nursing a beer. He doesn’t look away as you walk past him to your car. You stop and turn to him.
“You shouldn’t have tricked me like that.”
He raises the beer to his lips taking a long sip. He swallows the liquid down and turns his attention to the orange colored sky.
“Would you have come knowing he was here?”
Your eyes are puffy, your heart is numb and you want to crawl into bed. Exhaustion, both mentally and physically, is taking over.
He never receives your answer. Instead he watches you get into your car and leave. The older man doesn’t regret lying to you to get you here. He meant it when he said you were family. And family deserves the truth. Wayne remains seated as Eddie opens the door. His face is red and he looks like someone just gutted him.
Wayne doesn’t say anything as Eddie makes his way to him. His shaky hands stuff inside his leather jacket as Wayne takes a final sip from his drink. No words are said as Wayne stands up as Eddie makes a final step to him. He knows what’s coming. He’s raised Eddie since he was a child and knows him like the back of his hand. The lost look in his eyes tells him that he’s about to break. The carefree rocker is gone. All that’s left standing in front of him is a broken man facing the consequences of his actions.
Wayne opens his arms and Eddie falls into them. A sob is heard as knees buckle. Wayne grips onto the back of his shirt keeping him standing still. He’s disappointed in his nephew for thinking with the wrong head. He’s heartbroken for you for being put in this situation. Above it all, he’s angry bad things happen to good people.
Eddie cries into Wayne’s shoulder completely falling apart. Wayne holds him with a few pats on his back.
Wayne looks back up at the beautiful sky letting Eddie fall apart. Something about getting his nephew to feel the true pain of heartache causes an ache in his chest. Yet, in the twisted way of how things go, Wayne reminds the broken boy in his arms that love just isn’t enough to make us stay. Sometimes the door closes and remains shut after the bond has been broken beyond repair.

FUCK.
It’s giving Businessman!Steve who takes out his aggression on his girl…who texts you the room number at an expensive hotel, no explanation given (or necessary) because you know exactly what it means…He fucks you on his lunch break, and it’s not nice sex, either. It’s tie-you-up, remove your ability to walk sex…the kind of sex that happens with your wrists bound together over your head, and your ankles restrained to the bedposts… He had a bad meeting this morning, his company lost a lot of money and who’s Steve going to take out his frustrations on? You, his loyal little pet, who meets him inside the hotel room doorway and immediately goes to her knees as he pushes the door shut behind you… His fingers slipping beneath your chin, tilting your face to look up at him, his other hand loosening the fastens on his belt… And when he’s got you face down on the bed, your ass bright red in welts shaped like his handprints, Steve finally feels the tension inside him dissipate, emptying his stress all over the slope of your arched back like a work of art…

“So, what’s on the agenda today, honey?” Steve asks, standing next to you at the shell shaped sink of your hotel room. You had been bouncing on the balls of your feet while you were getting ready, barely able to contain your excitement.
“We are going to get breakfast before we head to Animal Kingdom, then we get into the park and kind of just go in a giant circle? That's what my family does when we come here.” You say, swiping the stick of sunscreen across your cheeks and rubbing it in. “I did get us Genie+ for a few rides today, mainly Avatar Flight of Passage and for Expedition Everest. The lines for both of those can get pretty bad.”
Steve nods, brushing his teeth. Your phone vibrates in your pocket, pulling it out and answering the facetime call from Robin.
“Morning Rob!” you say cheerfully as you walk back toward the bed and plop down on your stomach, resting on your elbows.
“There she is! How’s Steve?”
“Barely making it.” you respond sarcastically, brushing a stray piece of hair out of your face and behind your ear, hearing Steve scoff makes you laugh.
“Aw Harrington, she tire you out already? You haven’t even made it into the park yet.” Eddie yells over the line.
“He won’t make it, Munson. You and I both know that!” Robin tells Eddie. “Just surprised you’re still in the hotel. Isn’t it like 7:30 in Florida?”
“Make it? What do you mean ‘won’t make it’ ?” Steve says after rinsing his mouth with water and setting his toothbrush back into the cup on the counter. “Is she planning on killing me? Are you planning on killing me?” He says as he walks into the room more.
“It’s an Animal Kingdom day Rob, the park opens at 8 but closes at 6. I want to make sure we do everything, but also not be finished with the whole park by noon. Steve and I are going to grab breakfast and then head to the park.”
“Oh, honestly that’s fair.” Robin responds.
“I think that’s the park you missed because you had gotten food poisoning from the food we ate the night before.” Eddie tells Robin. “You left me alone with the Disney Dictator, but I had the time of my life so, can’t complain too much.”
“Eddie, you cried when you saw Baloo from The Jungle Book in the parade.” Your face deadpans while you and the metalhead share a brief moment of silence and a small staring contest through the screen, only seeing his face from his eyes up, “I still have the pictures and I’m pretty sure a video too.”
Steve clears his throat and raises his eyebrow, as if to repeat his previous question.
“You promised you’d never tell a soul about that!” Then Eddie’s face fully comes into view as he snatches the phone from Robin. “You’re so lucky that I’m still in Indiana and you’re in Florida.” He playfully threatens, “Tell Harrington that his house is still standing, Robin and I haven’t burnt it to the ground… yet.”
“That was my next question.” Steve sassed and rolled his eyes.
“Don’t worry, dingus. Your house is fine.” Robin said, “Eddie and I have everything taken care of. We expect pictures and updates! Bye!”
“Promise! Bye!” You hang up the phone and put it into your bag.
“Go through your checklist honey, you have that look on your face.” Steve says, gently placing his hand on your cheek and rubbing his thumb across the expanse of skin. You nod and dump the contents of your bag onto the bed.
“Okay, wallet, check. Car keys and room keys, check. Phone and fuel rods, check. iPhone cables, check. Ponchos…” you look around the room and Steve hands you both ponchos. “Check. Mini first aid kit, check.  Your phone,” Steve pulls it out of his front pocket to show you he has it. “Check” he says before putting it back into his pocket.
“What about those magic watch thingies?”
“You mean the magic bands? They’re plugged up and charging right on the table next to the door. Your wallet and sunglasses are there too. Those are the last things that we grab. Do you have our collapsible water bottles?” You ask, placing the ponchos in your bag and slinging the bag over your shoulder.
“Yes, they’re in the car. Make sure you wear comfortable socks with your shoes today, we wouldn’t want your feet to blister.” Steve says, passing you a pair of socks.
“Okay, I just need to grab my ears and put on my socks and shoes and we should be ready.” Grabbing your choice of ears and your tennis shoes from next to the dresser and shoving your socks into one of your shoes.
“Do we need to put on our magic watches now? Also what do they do again?”
“No Stevie, our magic watches can wait.” You giggle and pull him into a kiss. “They scan us into the park, our Lightning Lane passes are on here too, they also sync with lights on rides, we can get our ride photos after we get off of the rides, and sync with the nighttime shows. Oh, you can also bounty hunt in Galaxy’s Edge, but personally I’m not too sure how it works.”
“Oh, alright.” He says. “Get your shoes on weirdo, I’m starving—” pulling you back to him and into a hug, he whispers in your ear “—might just have to eat you if I don’t get some food soon.” He pulls back and winks at you.
“Steve Harrington! This is a wholesome trip!” You gasp, lightly smacking his arm.
“Guess we better go get breakfast, huh?” He laughs and walks out of the room, grabbing his wallet and sunglasses. “You can put your shoes on in the car, here’s some sandals to put on for now.” He says, placing your sandals in front of you when you walk out of the bedroom.
“Thanks Stevie!” You slip on your sandals and with your free hand you grab both magic bands and shove them into your bag.
“Okay, I’m pretty sure that’s everything!” You say, pulling Steve out of the room and into the hallway. “You said you were starving, let's go get breakfast!”
The both of you walked hand in hand to the elevator, but to anyone else who could see, you were pulling him to the elevator in an excited haste.
“Who knew you were this excited for breakfast today, honey.” Steve laughed, fixing his hair in the reflection of the elevator doors. “Thought you’d be more excited for Mousey today.”
“Don’t you mean Mickey?” You say, side eyeing him.
“Same thing, right?” Steve pokes fun at you, pulling you towards him. “Who’s driving to breakfast? I’m starving.”
“Can you drive? That way I can actually put on my shoes. I can plug in the GPS coordinates if you would like.”
“Yeah, I definitely will need that.”
“I’ve been here so many times but the traffic is terrible and I still get really turned around.” The elevator dings and opens into the ground floor. Steve grabs your hand and you both proceed to walk down the path towards your car.
Steve opens your car door and closes it behind you once you’re seated in the passenger seat.
“Oh wait, the resort does have free transportation to the parks…” You trail off.
“Yes, but, there would be nowhere to put your sandals once you switch shoes. Plus I don’t want to feel like I’m needing to yell to talk to you, so I can drive. I do not mind.” Steve reassures you once he’s in the driver seat.
“Okay, but tomorrow I think I want to try the resort’s breakfast and take the Skyliner.” You suggest.
“ ‘s fine with me, honey.” Steve smiles at you, placing a hand on your thigh as he glances in the mirrors and puts the car in gear. You put the address in for the restaurant and start your day.
Tumblr media
“Good morning! How many are in your party?” The hostess asked, once you walked into a small sized mom and pop type restaurant.
“Just two.” Steve said, smiling at the hostess.
“Alright, if y’all could just follow me.” She says, grabbing menus and rolled cutlery, leading you and Steve to a table tucked almost into the back corner of the restaurant.
“Thank you so much!” You say when you sit down.
“It’s not a problem, your server will be with you shortly.” She smiled and walked away.
“So, what do you get for breakfast before a park day?”  Steve asks, looking through the menu before looking over the paper’s edge to you.
“Well, since I personally classify Animal Kingdom as a beginner park, I just get a normal breakfast.” You point to the menu. “Personally I do the ‘Build Your Own Breakfast’ option.”
Steve reads on his own menu the details. “You don’t eat eggs though because they taste like straight sulfur to you.” You nod. “So what usually happens with them? So you just eat potatoes and protein?”
“Yes? Also, someone else usually eats my eggs.” You say and Steve nods.
“Good morning! My name’s Veronica and I will be your server this morning. Can I start you off with any coffee, milk or orange juice?”
“Oh um, sure. Coffee and a water for me.” Steve says as the waitress writes down his drink order.
“For you, ma’am?”
“Um, can I actually have half and half tea?”
“Like as in an Arnold Palmer or half sweet and half unsweet?”
“Half sweet and half unsweet.”
“Sure thing, sugar. Are you ready to order or do you still need a few minutes?” Veronica asked
“Oh, um. I’m ready, are you ready Steve?”
“Sure. You first.” He nods to you.
“I will do the ‘build your own breakfast’ with bacon, hash brown casserole, and my eggs over medium.” You say, smiling and handing her your menu.
“Too easy, and for you sir?” She turns and looks at Steve.
“I think I will also have the ‘build your own breakfast’.” He pauses to look over the choices. “With sausage, my eggs over medium, and… pancakes.” He smiles and hands his menu to Veronica.
“Alrighty, I will put that in and I’ll bring those drinks right out. Would you like milk or creamer for your coffee?”
“Yes, milk please.”
Veronica nods and walks towards the kitchen to put in the ticket.
Steve reaches across the  small table and rests one of his hands on top of yours. “You ready?” He asks.
“Oh, I’m ready. The question is are you? It’s going to be a long day.” Steve gives your hands a reassuring squeeze.
“Me? I’m always ready, especially if I'm spending the day with my favorite girl.” He sends a wink your way. Heat immediately rushes to your cheeks.
“Stop.” You giggle and look down at the table, feeling your headband slipping down your head, Steve uses his free hand to stop them from falling completely off of your head.
“Here, let me fix those.” he takes his hand off of yours as you look back up at him and he pushes them back into place. “Perfect.” He smiles and bops your nose gently. “Take that since I can’t give you a kiss right now.”
You smile at your boyfriend and you both relax into your chairs a little more.
“Should we call anyone, you know– just in case?” You ask, tone laced with what could only be deciphered as worry.
“You mean Dustin?”  Steve shakes his head. “No, we start calling now and he will call every three hours. We can call him or any of the other kids before we decide to sleep. Everyone knows we’re here, they can relay updates to them that we send through text. This trip is about you, honey.”
Just as you were going to say something, a woman in her mid-thirties stands and loudly announces “Hey everyone, it’s my first ever time going to Disney World!!”
Some people clap and from a corner behind you, a grumpy voice calls back “Who fuckin’ cares?”
The restaurant falls silent before Steve bursts into laughter. You cover your face in embarrassment and Steve stops laughing as everyone resumes their conversations.
“Oh my god, that lady probably thinks I’m an asshole, but I was nervous!” Steve babbles. “I am so sorry.”
“I don’t even know what to say.” You uncover your face. “The awkward laughing was…”
“Yeah, trust me, I feel awful.” Steve said, rubbing the back of his neck. “We’re eating breakfast at the resort tomorrow.”
“Alright, well, that was definitely something.” Veronica says, eyebrows raised. “Here are your drinks.” Smiling as she set down your drinks.  “Did y’all want your biscuits now or when your food comes?”
“Can we get them now?” Steve asks and looks at you “ ‘s that okay?”
You nod.
“Sure thing, any honey or specific jelly or jams? Any apple butter?”
“Honey and strawberry jelly, oh and blackberry jelly if you have it.” Steve states and Veronica nods, leaving the table to go grab the biscuits Steve asked for.
“What’s apple butter?” Steve whispers across the table.
“It’s like applesauce, but it’s cooked down more, blended or pureed and spiced with things like cinnamon or allspice.” You explain, picking up your tea and taking a sip. “I can’t eat it for obvious reasons, so I never ask for it.”
Steve nods, listening carefully. “Am I on cinnamon alert this week?” He asks in a serious tone.
“I am pretty vigilant about my allergy, but I promise to be extra careful this week.” Grabbing Steve’s hand across the table and giving it a light squeeze. “I promise.”
Steve lifts your hand and brings your knuckles to his lips, placing a chaste kiss to the skin. “I’ll double check behind you. I don’t want anything going wrong on this trip for you.”
Tumblr media
“So this is a live action show?” Steve looks around. “Of The Lion King? Like on Broadway?”
“I have personally never watched the one on Broadway, but I have seen this one multiple times. It’s a 30 minute rendition of the film. Personally, I try to knock this out early, just because the show happens every hour but only from 10 am to 5 pm.”
“Ah, okay.” Steve says squinting, putting his sunglasses back over his eyes. “Kinda bright out here, don’t you think?”
You side eye him, thinking to yourself ‘park one and we’re already complaining? This will be a long day if this continues…’
“I mean, eh. Maybe, or maybe I’m just used to the bright sun against pale concrete.” You say. The line moves and you walk with the crowd to the door.
“Good Morning! How many in your party?” A male cast member asked with a smile.
“Two!”
He nods and clicks his counter twice. “Perfect, sit anywhere you’d like!” He motions you through the door and into the small arena.
“How often are we going to be asked that question on this trip?”
“Every single time we get on a ride or go to an indoor show.”
Steve nods in acknowledgment and follows you to an empty row of bleachers.
Tumblr media
“So what’s this one called?” Steve asks as you both walk through the queue line.
“Expedition Everest! This one is super fun and I think it's one of the only ‘thrill’ type rides in this park.” You say, scanning your wrist for the lightning lane. “Scan your magic band here, this is one of the rides I was able to get lightning lane for.” Scanning your own band and fingerprint, moving through when the light turns green. Steve repeats your actions, walking with you.
“Lightning Lane? That’s like, what? Being able to skip the line?”
“Basically! This line gets really, really long.” You say as you walk further into the line. “Eddie and I tried to wait out a thunderstorm, but the lightning was too bad, so they gave us free passes to use when the ride opened back up.” You explained, coming to a stop so you wouldn’t bump into the people in front of you.
“The music is definitely an interesting choice.”
“I believe it’s Tibetan throat singing, I think it’s super unique.”
“Huh.” Steve muttered to himself. He takes in the scene around him. “Are these real pictures and artifacts?” Pointing to the mounted pictures and displays of shredded tents and rusted tools in the line.
“Uh, you know, I’m not entirely sure? I’d like to think so just to keep up the Disney magic.” You say, stepping forward as the line moves up.
“That’s fair. Disney does a lot of things to uh, keep the magic, don’t they?”
“Yeah, I mean, why wouldn’t they? If I were a multi-million dollar company with a certain image, I would do everything in my power to keep that image.”
“Is that why there’s a paint shade called ‘Go Away Green’?”
You slowly turned your head to look at your boyfriend. “Color me shocked… Steve Harrington has done his homework.”
Steve blushes. “Uh. y-yeah. Robin sent me some articles from this blog? Uh…” He ponders for a moment. “I can only remember the abbreviations, DFB I think it was.”
“Oh my god, remind me to kiss Robin when we get home– and not a kiss on the cheek, I’m going to kiss your best friend on her mouth. She deserves it.” You say, wiggling your eyebrows.
“Please don’t kiss my best friend.” Steve shakes his head and chuckles. “I would rather not have to share you or those kisses. Those kisses are mine and mine alone, thank you very much.” He responded before playfully side-eyeing you. “Does this ride go upside down?”
“No, it may feel like it, but ultimately no. It does, however, go backwards… in the dark.”
“Okay, I can deal with it going backwards and it being dark.” He nods.
You two stand in a comfortable silence for a moment before the line moves up again.
“I’m opening your bag to put my stuff in here.” He says, unzipping your bag and placing his things in the bag. “What about your ears?” He asks.
“Yeah, I should take them off. I don’t want to lose them.” You say, taking them off and handing them over your shoulder to Steve. “Thank you.”
“Honey, no need to thank me. These ears hold a lot of sentimental value to you. They’ve come to the parks for your last four trips.”
You turn around after Steve zips up your bag. “How— how on earth do you know that? I’ve only taken one trip while we’ve been together, and that was with Eddie and Robin…” You pause, waiting for him to respond. “… a year ago.”
His cheeks and tips of his ears turned crimson with a deep set flush. “I… may or may not have stalked your Facebook once we became friends… and your mom’s Facebook too.”
“Steve Harrington!” You gasp and playfully pinch his cheek. “You were stalking not only my facebook page, but my mom’s Facebook page too?”
“Yes, I’ve also become facebook friends with both of your parents. Your mom sends me recipes.” He admits. Well since he had come clean, it was only fair you did as well.
“That’s okay, Eddie and I stalked your social media too.” Your own cheeks warm in embarrassment.
“I know, I got the notification that you liked a picture on my instagram from 3 years ago.” Steve teases, bopping your nose gently with his index finger.
The line moves up as you take a few steps forward with wide eyes. “Eddie told me if I undid the like on the picture, you wouldn’t get the notification.”
“Hate to break it to you, but he lied. I got it.” He snickers as you cover your face.
“Oh he is so dead when we get home.” You declare and Steve just leans against the queue railing.
“I know we ate breakfast like.. three hours ago, do you think we can get a snack?”
“Yeah Stevie, we can get a snack. Want me to mobile order it so it will be ready when we get off the ride?”
“Thank God.” Steve groans and his head falls forward, forehead gently resting on the top of your head. “Yes, please.”
Giggling, you open your MyDisneyExperience app. “What area would you like to head towards next? Looks like the quick service spot closest to us is closed.”
“Hm, Pandora.” Steve says, glancing at your phone.”Seems like a bit of a walk though.”
“It’s going to be, unfortunately.”
Steve hums, using his fingers to zoom in on the screen to select a quick service spot. “What about Pongu Pongu? What’s on their menu?”
You simply hand your phone over to Steve, letting him look at the menu.
“Or we can actually sit down and eat at Satu’li Canteen,” Steve pauses. “Oh, they have those cheeseburger bao buns Eddie never shuts up about.”
The line moves forward and then stops. Thunder begins rumbling in the distance and you groan, silently hoping the rain would hold off until after you were able to ride the coaster.
A Cast Member named Jeremy sadly smiles at you when you and Steve reach him. “I’m so sorry friends, unfortunately due to the incoming pop up storm the ride will be closed for the time being.”
A pout forms on your lips, sighing. “I get it, safety is important.” Jeremy sends a grateful smile and a small nod your way. “Oh! I almost forgot, I have a gift for you!”
Reaching around and pulling your loungefly bag to your front and unzipping the front pouch, you dig around pulling out a few bracelets. Quickly looking through the pile in your hand, you pull out the one that reads ‘Expedition Everest’ and hand it to him. “This is for you!”
A small gasp escapes his lips as you hand over your homemade gift. “This is… no one has ever done anything like this… thank you, so so much! How many people are in your party? I want to give you a Lightning Lane.”
Steve looks surprised. “Two, but I thought we had one for this ride already?”
“I’m giving you another and the original one will be credited back to you.” Jeremy says. “May I scan your Magic Bands?”
Steve holds out his wrist and you follow suit, allowing the Cast Member to scan both of your bands. “When the ride comes back up, you can use the ‘select experience pass’ back at this attraction, and the ‘multi experience pass’ is for you to use anywhere within the park today– for your kindness.” Jeremy smiles again. “Thank you so much for the bracelet. I hope you both have a wonderful day here at Animal Kingdom!”
Steve grabs your hand as you walk towards the exit, your phone still in his free hand. “So… Cheeseburger Bao?”
A giggle bubbles up in your throat. “Yeah Stevie, we’re going to get your cheeseburger bao.”
“Hell yeah.”
Tumblr media
“So, what did you get again?” Steve asks as you sit down.
“Uh, Pongu Lumpia? It’s got pineapple and cream cheese in it. I got two of them, since I was thinking you wanted one with your bao.” Taking your bag off and sitting across from Steve. Handing him a sweet spring roll, he also hands you a bao bun, both of you placing your additional snack inside of the cardboard trays.
“I figured you wanted one of these. A savory snack and a sweet one.” Steve says, opening a powerade, gently sliding it across the table. “I also got a blue powerade because I know how much you hate the red one.”
“I got you a red one because I know you aren’t fond of the blue one.” Pulling a red powerade from your loungefly. Both of you smile at each other and laugh. “You really are my other half, Stevie.”
“I was just thinking the same thing, honey.” Another loud crack of thunder booms, causing you to jump in your seat. “I wonder how long until the storms pass over.”
Someone at the table next to you leans over and says “The radar shows that the storms will be finished later this afternoon, but this is Florida.” Before leaning back to their own table and resuming their own conversation.
“Do you think we need to call it a day?” Steve asks gently.
“Um, I’m not entirely sure…” Looking around, you see families gathering their things and heading towards the exit. “We um, we can try to ride the two rides here in Pandora, if you want. They’re indoor attractions, we just have to hope that the queue line is inside.”
Steve nods. “What are the wait times?”
“Flight of Passage seems to be at a seventy five minute wait and Na’vi River Journey seems to be… down.” Sighing dejectedly, you set your phone down and take a bite of the bao bun, chewing slowly.
Steve places a free hand out on the table, a silent command for you to take it. You grab his hand, looking away, bottom lip wobbling. Today was supposed to be a great day, magical even– but the weather seemed to be putting a damper on your hopes for the day.
“Hey, look at me.” You look over at Steve, tears pricking your lower lash line. “Honey, please don’t cry.”  He sets his food down to stand and come to your side of the table. “None of this. We can always come back on one of our days that we had to just relax and do the things we couldn’t today.” Wiping a tear that had begun to make its descent down your cheek. “I can buy another ticket for another day.”
“But– That’s– It’s not the point!” A small sob escapes your lips. “This trip was supposed to be perfect!”
“It is, honey. I promise it is. You’re here in your favorite place and I’m lucky to be here with you. Seeing you here, in your true element, the day is perfect to me.”  Both of Steve’s hands now gently hold your face. “So, how about this? We finish our lunch, we go and see if we can get onto Flight of Passage, then head back to the resort? We can relax in the room, or you can show me the gift shop.”
Steve wipes a few tears and your bottom lip juts out and you sigh. "Yeah, I guess…”
“Thatta girl, now put that pout away, your bao bun and your sweet treat are getting cold."
Tumblr media
“Oh My god, worst ride ever!”
Steve holds your hair back as you stand next to a trash can near the ride’s exit, dry heaving.
“Noted.” Steve’s free hand comes up to rub your back. “Do you want to stop by CVS or Target to buy some Dramamine?”
You silently gag, leaning more against the wall to steady yourself, eyes squeezed shut. “Yes, please.” Steve nods, blowing cool air onto the back of your neck.
“Okay honey, you just let me know when you’re ready to go.”
Once the way of nasua calms down completely, you stand up straight, slowly pushing yourself off of the wall. “Okay, I– I think I’m ready to go back to the room.”
Taking Steve’s hand, you let him guide you through Pandora. “Honey I have no idea where I’m going.” He says, looking over his shoulder to look at you.
“Just follow the signs– or the crowd.” Rain starts misting down again, and the crowd around you begins picking up their pace. “Wait Steve–”
No sooner than the words left your lips, Steve collides with something soft and fuzzy.
“I am so sorry–!” Steve quickly turns forward to see that he had collided with none other than Mickey Mouse, causing you to erupt into a fit of giggles.
Mickey slowly turns around and looks at Steve, hands on his hips while his attendant is standing there with her hand over her mouth, also giggling.
“I am so sorry, I was not paying attention.” Steve raises his hands up. “Blame my girlfriend, she just had all of my attention!”
Mickey puts a hand on Steve’s arm and playfully pushes him out of the way, grabbing you in a side hug and using a free hand to cover your ear, as if protecting you. He then pushes his nose to the side of your head and makes a kissing noise. Steve scoffs.
“First you take my money and now you take my girlfriend? What a great first park day!” Steve says sarcastically, putting his hands on his hips. You playfully roll your eyes at his comment.
“Oh yikes, Mickey, I think you hit a nerve.” The attendant giggles, causing you to erupt into another fit of giggles. “C’mon, we’ve got to get you out of the rain!” Mickey slumps down, as if showing disappointment, but allowing you to turn and give him an actual hug.
“Thank you for making me laugh, Mickey.” You say to him, giving the character a hug. He hugs back and doesn’t drop his arms until you do, sending another kissy noise your way before turning to Steve and pointing at his eyes, and pointing back to Steve as if to say he’s watching him.
Steve gives Mickey a sideways glance before crossing his arms and shaking his head. You wave at the attendant and Mickey. “Bye!”
Wrapping his warm hand around yours, Steve gently tugs you towards the exit. “Let’s get you out of the rain. Do you remember where we parked? I uh, I forgot.”
“Yeah Stevie, I remember where we parked.” You say as he throws his arm over your shoulder and pulls you into his side and places a kiss to your head as you walk through the exit.
