One of my favorite little details when it comes to writing Shen Jiu is using “should” statements. He is always think about how he should feel or he should do this.

See, I’ve done a lot of therapy over the years. And one thing my therapists really hammered home is to have acceptance for what actually is rather than what we believe we should have.

Having Shen Jiu stuck in the “should” mindset just feels very in-character to me. He’s always trying to reach for something he “should” want — and, yet, almost none of it brings him actual happiness.

I love the headcanon that YQY shows more signs of aging than most cultivators bc of Xuan Su nonsense, and SQQ thinks he does it as a play to get extra respect. But also, is like, into it against his own will. It's just so funny to me bc all I imagine is,

I was gonna start this post saying people don’t talk abt Steph’s issues with her mother enough but actually people don’t even talk abt her issues with her father enough. I know that Arthur is evil to a cartoonish degree so it’s hard to fully comprehend that, but even just looking at it from a more realistic angle, that girl grew up fully understanding that her dad didn’t like her. She wasn’t good enough for her own father to do the bare minimum of caring about her. Crystal improved in time, but she didn’t do much to help with that during Steph’s most important developmental years. Steph grew up with the understanding that she’s not good enough and no one will help her when she struggles so don’t bother asking and don’t bother crying about it either. She saved herself both emotionally and physically by becoming Spoiler and continued to get up every time she fell because she had no other choice. She has the fundamental belief that there is no one in her corner no matter how much her relationship with crystal improves or how many allies she makes, that belief will always be there. That’s why she happily accepted the bare minimum from Tim and was constantly prepared/expecting for him to cheat on her. That’s why she doesnt seek out a father figure in Bruce, because she doesn’t know what it’s like to have that in her life so why would she expect it from him? That’s why she comes across as a sunshine character, because who would care otherwise? Honestly now that I’ve typed it out I think her independence gets undermined the most.
