Make sure you don't accidentally punish people for communicating their needs and boundaries. When someone cares enough to have the uncomfortable conversation, that's a compliment and a clear sign that they are invested in the relationship. Yes of course it's uncomfortable to hear that something you've been doing has been upsetting someone you care about when that was never your intention, but people generally only bother to have these conversations with the people they want to keep around - the people they trust to care. If they just didn't like you, they'd probably just try to avoid you. So make sure you don't make it into a more punishing experience than it has to be. Try to see the care and the trust behind the criticism, even when it triggers uncomfortable emotions. It's a good sign that they're there telling you.

Pretending you're fine when people cross your boundaries doesn't make you a really nice person, it just makes you a really shitty communicator. Far too many people pride themselves on being "too nice" when it's just that they have zero conflict resolution skills and will seethe in resentment for months instead of articulating the problem

A friend of mine came to me today and said they're commissioning an artist for a hobby project they're working on, and it was at least in part because I am so vehemently anti-genAI and they wanted to let me know.

And they said "But it's hard because I know what I want in my head"

and listen. I am not an artist myself but I am friends with a @randomthunk and from what she has told me, artists want you to be as ridiculously detailed as possible so they can achieve what you see in your head.

Wanted a flower but not that specific flower? You tell 'em! That bit of scenery a little to the left? They want to know!

Like I promise you, in addition to all the other positives of commissioning an artist (not killing the planet, not supporting big corpos that don't care about you, not feeding the plagiarism machine), you will get better results because a human artist actually gives a shit about what you're trying to accomplish and wants to see you happy with what they make. And I don't know how to explain that a desire to see someone happy and satisfied with your work is a very very powerful motivator.
