It is Sunday April 29, 2018, 3.45 pm. 

I am at the beginnings of a piece about the connections between YouTube, failure and happiness; a thesis that seemed clear in the beginning, but, as time goes on, grows additional branches, wings, moves in different directions and leaves me pondering about its starting point.

It is raining outside. 

My favourite section of YouTube are the newest uploads, revealing the pulse of the world, in a massive sense. Pouring in from everywhere, bit by bit - pregnancy announcements, video game broadcasts, make-up tips, pictures of Kanye West - all before drowning in the algorithm; drowning in the abyss. The Fursuit Dance, for example. It comes up as soon as I looking for happiness on YouTube:

“ So I was making some clips of my fursuit outing outside, mostly slowmos because they are rlly lit and awsome XD and my idea was to run down a hill Iin Glitch, so that’s what I did. But I FELL I freking FELL!! Glitch’s paws (remember he has white in it and the road was newly paved) skidded on the ground and I got some black stuff on it, but it was a light color- I say brown so...(yes I’m ok I just scrapped my elbows I’m fine don’t worry XD) luckily I rushed inside the house- Put some soap and water on it and put the stain remover stick on his paws and let them air dry. They weren’t 100% dry when I filmed the video (the intro and outro the paws were fine and again they were filmed at differ times of the day) SOOOOO YEEEEEEEEHHHHEEEEE I MIGGGHHHTTTTTTTT upload a speed paint I worked on (^^) I mean it took an hour to do but I don’t want the video to be to long so I gotta find a way to make it quicker OHHH GUESS WHAT GUESS WHAT GUESS WHATTTTTT???!!!!! I CAN EDIT USING SONGS WITHOUT BACKROUND NOISES NOW!!!!! OH YES!!!!!!! I’m rlly happy about that sorry lol.” The dancer, the suit, the room are all happy

Hoards of us chasing after what we are being sold as “happiness” but rather kills our souls and leaves us empty and lifeless. Not a more true or accurate portrayal of this reality would be possible, nor a more needful and eye opening one than this video.
