I just have to ramble a bit about this fanfiction I read, because I can't stop thinking about it.

I keep trying to read another fanfiction but I keep being reminded of it. The style of writing. The emotions. It absolutely shattered me. I didn't cry though, I just had a tingle tear 😭 I looked back on it again because I couldn't help myself (it hurts SO MUCH to read, but I just needed to see it again, to read the writing again) and I noticed it had the "hurt no comfort" tag.

I was so invested in finding an extremely specific kind of series and I ended up finding something *so* much better than I ever thought. I don't know what to do with myself. I can't read fanfiction for this fanfiction can I?! I don't have the writing skills or ability to write like that and get that same feeling but I need MORE AGHH.

I do plan to read the author's other works because I just love their writing style so much. It just captured me and the emotions felt so potent and painful and real and it hurt to read but also just felt so true. And it was so beautiful. But *so* crushing and heart breaking.

This is definitely going up there as one of my favourite fanfictions; it was just such an unexpected incredible experience, and it's only about 6k words.

Also GOSH THEY USED MORSE CODE FOR LINE BREAKS, IT'S SO CLEVER BUT SO SAD WHEN YOU REALISE WHAT IT SAYS T_T

I loveee anime openings/eds/etc using the same group/band/singer/etc for multiple seasons of openings in a row, eg Noragami or Kaguya-sama. It really helps build a sense of identity and idk, it’s just so fun

I love anime openings and endings being sung by one/some of the voice actors of the series. It’s so cute 😭

And when they have two characters singing together?? I love it so much

Cool Doji Danshi (the anime) finally finished T-T it’s been so comforting and fun every week and getting to ramble a little about it each time. What a lovely series and I love them so much, I’m going to miss it :’)

The Buddy Daddies opening reminds me of a mix of the Hisoka solo songs (those piano chords at the beginning!! sasakure.UK!!) and Yoru ni Kakeru, mainly that ending section. There’s no real point to me saying this lol it’s just what I’ve noticed and observed out of the three times I’ve heard it 😂

Actually, if I’m getting into these similarities with songs, here are some others I have noticed/thought about and noted down for a while (because I’m scared of forgetting):

- Bocchi The Rock -> that one part reminds me of that part in the Darling in the Franxx opening!

- FMAB = Ed 4 = reminds me of: Shield Hero ed2 and Shiho version Meteor Pulse!

- Amnesia Memories op = beginning singing part similar to Meteor Pulse, ending part similar to Danganronpa!

- Also Tiny Light (Hanako-kun), Super Nova Revul5tar and Once Upon a Dream

I really love series that have their own little rules of their world and way of doing things and lore and stuff. It’s the kind of stuff with little sounds or things that happen that if you weren’t already invested and knew the context, you’d be confused. I’m thinking like Summertime Render with all the little details to the shadows. It’s all just cool!!

*edit* so on that topic because I have more thoughts!

We have like – the camera sound effects, the flash, the pixel effects and then the entire general concept of it. Once we have a handle on how it works, they don’t explain it any longer, and it becomes this natural, second-nature thing. I think it’s just so cool to have that, I think that kind of feeling really makes the story feel more immersive and almost personal or special? It’s something different from your own world you are gathering a comfortable understanding of, and it’s done in such a way that you could believe you’re just in that world with your innate/inherent understanding of the rules.

It’s the kind of thing where if someone else just started watching from like, episode 14 or something they’d be very lost, but you have this comfortable connection with it now. It’s like you yourself can be a part of it in a way, as someone who understands the rules of their world. But not a part of it in a self-insert kind of way, more just a general immersion way?

And I think it works especially well when from the outlook it doesn’t look like anything too unusual. The setting in Summertime Render is what just looks like a regular modern setting, but with these subtle things making things slightly off but while rapidly making you familiarise yourself with it.

I just. I REALLY like the way Summertime Render does it for some reason?! I’m not even really a fan of the series, I liked it, but not much more. But something about those subtle details that you just grow to understand such as the pixelated effects, how you see the characters deal with these things on a daily basis, etc just gets me.

I’m struggling to think of another series that just hit the way Summertime Render did for some reason. Possibly Shadows House or ReZero?

It’s just. It’s tight! It’s so smooth! I love the way it’s done aghh!!!

I think it’s also maybe partially because it’s like... it’s only really one tiny thing. Yeah the shadows are this full thing and there’s an entire story ongoing about it, but it’s not a fully thought out world-building kind of thing like other stories. I’m not meaning one is superior over the other either, I’m just trying to think of why this one felt so interesting to me.

I guess it’s also just something different and fresh from my perspective. It’s something that is not a full encompassing part of daily life, but is something that became a small but significant part of daily life and it was done in the most subtle and interesting ways that are specific to itself. Like the pixel sound and visual effects – that’s something that became *owned by* the concept of the shadows in this universe. And yes it’s never really actively talked about or spoken directly about, as it’s just the way they’ve chosen to showcase how things work.

I just love how like. So Sogo early on really wants Tamaki to be doing the right thing, being respectful to the staff, etc.

But in the one time where it all went horrible for Tamaki with his dad, Sogo did not say anything against him. He just held him and looked genuinely upset and almost just mad and cold at how they could put him through that. He knows how it feels to have issues with his father and at that moment he wasn’t concerned about how Tamaki lashed out, even if that was probably the worst case of it – instead he just was there for him as he cried. He didn’t even say anything, he was almost just being protective of him there.

And this is only the start of their relationship in season 1 of the anime, it gets so much better. AGH I love them so much 😭

I commented on this screenshot of mine a few years back actually when I watched this for the first or second time through and I said ‘I love this so much, it's like he's saying "I will not apologise for what you just did to Tamaki".’ and I still kinda agree with this. GOSH I LOVE THEM 😭😭
