Only Murders in the Building: Opening Night
I'm still so shook at the ending! When I saw (insert character here) show up I had a feeling things would go bad but I didn't expect THAT. OMITB is one of the most successful Hulu shows so I don't think we have to be worried about not getting a season four. All I know is that Mabel and Tobert is irrelevant to me because I'm still holding out for Theo and Mabel being endgame.

I’m currently reading book 4 and that has been my fear as well with this series! 😩 Like yes death is a part of life and with a cast of mainly elderly characters it’s bound to happen, but he’s such a lovable character that it would be absolutely heartbreaking to read 😭
Can't wait to read the 4th Thursday Murder Club(The Last Devil To Die) but please don't let Elizabeth's hubby die because I'm not emotionally ready for it yet. Thank you ❤️

Lavender House by Lev AC Rosen
Before reading this book I had no idea that queer detective novels existed and I’m so glad this was my entry into the genre. The main character is named Evander “Andy” Mills and he was recently fired from the San Francisco police department after being caught in a sexual encounter with another man in a the bathroom of a nightclub. Andy then meets a woman named Pearl Lamontaine who is the widow of the matriarch of the Lamontaine soap company, Irene. Pearl hires Andy to find out if Irene was murdered and if so, by who. Andy then goes to stay at Pearl’s house which he discovers is a safe haven for the lgbt community. Living there is Pearl and Irene’s son Henry, his husband Cliff, Margo Henry’s wife for appearances, and her wife Elsie. Margo’s mother Alice also lives with them despite being straight since she had nowhere else to go. Even the staff of the house are part of the community. Pat, the butler, is gay and the cook Dot is dating Judy the gardener. What I liked about this book is that you really come to love the characters of Lavender House by the end of it and are left hoping to read more about them in future books. This book takes place in 1952 when gay marriage was illegal and homophobia was at an all time high, so the entire novel is Andy coming to terms with who he was as a closeted policeman vs who he will become. It’s not copaganda at all and the farthest thing from it since it makes a habit to consistently showcase the corruption in the system and the harm that the police have done to the lgbt community. There is a sequel coming soon called The Bell in the Fog that will be released on October 10th and I can’t wait to read it ☺️
Trigger Warnings to Be Aware Of
On page 84, there is a use of the f slur as well as on page 163. There is also a graphic scene in chapter 10 where Andy is the victim of a homophobic attack so if that’s something you would like to avoid, skip pages 162-164 and you won’t miss anything important.

If you’re a fan of Agatha Christie’s character Jane Marple, or mysteries with busybody older female characters in general, I strongly recommend Vera Wongs Unsolicited Advice for Murderers by Jesse Q. Sutanto. It’s about a Chinese woman who runs a tea shop and imo is just going through the motions since her husband died and she and her adult son have a strained relationship. One day she discovers a man dead in her shop and she takes it upon herself to solve his murder. She has four suspects and instead of taking the bad cop approach, she instead becomes their friend. I have a feeling I know who the killer is but I have a long ways to go so I’m just enjoying the journey as Vera solves the case. I really hope they make this book into a movie because it’s so much fun!

“Happily Ever Aster”
What are some of your headcanons on how some of the characters lived happily ever after? We won’t know for sure until being mentioned offhand in future seasons but it’s still fun to come up with ideas. Here is how I vision some of their happy endings. I’m putting it behind the read more in case some people still haven’t seen the season finale yet
Grace and Hannah
It’ll be weird for a minute since Edgar is dead and as terrible as he was I’m sure they’ll still have to grieve him in some way. Once that passes I see them continuing to travel together and maybe Hannah working with Grace in her antique shop. Rather than another yurt, I could see them living in a cozy cottage surrounded by more psychotropic plants. Idk if they’ll marry, but I see them adopting a baby or maybe getting a sperm donor and their baby being weird af like a mini Wednesday Addams.
Feng and Vivian
After news of Edgar’s death breaks out and people check out Kyler’s videos from the weekend, I can see a lot of people flocking to try baobing for clout but falling in love with it. They’ll get a boost in sales and Feng will end up opening even more locations. Now that he has enough money to pay off debts and etc, I see him and Vivian traveling the world together and her teaching him how to live it up. He doesn’t have to play it safe anymore so I could see him and Vivian sending Grace and Zoë pics of them both skydiving and other thrill seeking tourist stuff. Maybe offscreen Aniq and Zoë asked Vivian to help choreograph the first dance at their wedding and it turned out amazing.
Travis
Since he became the house and beat Sebastian, he can afford to fly out and visit Weronika. Does anyone remember what he does for a living? I could see him feeling inspired at actually discovering the crypto scam and taking courses so he can be a legitimate detective. Maybe he will even create an agency to help other people that have been scammed out of their crypto.
Isabel
She may not have been able to hold Edgar accountable for drugging her but she’s at least finally free. Howie is a close friend but maybe they’ll become something more at some point. With her personality I don’t expect her and Hannah to ever have a perfect relationship, but after that moment they shared while telling the mind movie, maybe they can get to a decent place. Probably not though after how she treated Grace.
Sebastian
Yeah he lost a bunch of money and was fired by Isabel, but you can’t keep a scammer like him down. He’s either about to start running cons with his cousins again or he’s going to attach himself to a wealthy older lady like Isabel and live out the rest of her life in luxury before moving on to the next one.
Aniq and Zoë
When they go see Danner in the time jump, are the rings to show that they’ve already married or are they still engaged? Either way, I don’t care to see a wedding. We’ve already been there and done that with Grace even if it did end terribly. I’m fine with seeing hilarious wedding and honeymoon photos/videos and calling it a day. It’s too bad Yasper is in prison because he would have been a really fun best man. Imagine the wedding toast 😂
Danner
Assuming season three will be the afterparty for the premiere of her movie, I hope that the person killed isn’t Jaleel White. Danner has been through enough so that would suck to do that to her character when she finally found what she wants to do in life.
Ulysses
He obviously doesn’t deserve a happy ending after trying to kill Feng. It might be too much of fan service, but the idea of him being cellmates with Yasper and them both performing together for the other criminals is hilarious to me. Knowing him, he’d probably be using his knowledge from his travels to scam the other inmates into giving him money for food and etc.
What about you guys? It would be really cool to be able to compare these headcannons to what will actually be canon in the future seasons.

Look, weddings bring up some complicated feelings. About love, about money, family. And those feelings make people do things they normally wouldn't do. Even murder. So, I'd like to talk to everybody here and hear your accounts of what happened this weekend. I like to call them your mind movies. We're all stars of our own movies. Season 2 of The Afterparty (2022-present) created by Christopher Miller

The Afterparty: Vivían & Zoë
How are you fellow sleuths doing now that the mystery has been solved? I’ll miss the weekly theories and fun but I can’t wait to see how they’ll up the theatrics and clues in season three. Now that the mystery is solved here are my takeaways from the episode.
SPOILERS AHEAD! DO NOT READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW WHO KILLED EDGAR MINNOWS
This episode was full of laughs, drama, and new beginnings and I enjoyed all 31 minutes of it. They surprisingly fit a lot into this episode so I'm going to break it down into parts:
Lights, Cameras, Action!
Someone on Reddit said they wanted to see S3 be an afterparty for a film adaptation of Xavier's murder and it looks like we're getting just that! Seeing Keke Palmer show up had me screaming internally! She's going to be a perfect Danner and I need season 3 now so I can see her mind movie. Also Elijah Wood and Daniel Radcliffe too?! Like they better give this show all the budget money because they're about to sweep award season. I hope they do get Alia Shawkat to play Chelsea like someone suggested since it's been joked about already that she and Ilana Glazer look alike (I personally don't see it though).
"Fetch that, bitch!"
Zoë fighting Colonel and throwing him out the window took me out! The way she was spinning him around and etc and that whole encounter being a horror story was brilliant. And the fact that he survived by landing on Isabel's trampoline?! He really is a hellhound! I love how someone just had that theory earlier that Edgar mentioning a devil was a response to looking out the window and seeing Colonel bouncing lmao.
Travis Becoming the House
Travis beating Sebastian at his own game was so rewarding to watch. The big theories floating around were that he either recorded the confession and sent it to the police or that he was secretly an investigator, but I really like this ending. Now he got back the money lost and in my mind, he took a trip to meet Weronika in person and they hit it off.
Love is in the Air
Happily Ever Aster, indeed! Aniq and Zoë both proposing to each other was so cute and I love how she was the one who proposed first. I don't know if the rings were meant to show the engagement was still on or if they've already married, but I personally don't care to see a wedding between the two. I'd rather hear they had a great ceremony that was drama free and keep it moving. Hannah and Grace living happily ever after is so sweet because we all know how tv writers love to kill their gays or find some other way of ruining their ending. I need them to show up in a future season happy with a quirky little Wednesday Addams type of baby please! And last but not least, Vivian and Feng. You can tell that they both really love each other and I love that not once in the season did we see Feng holding the affair over her head. Like they're really ride or die for each other and I love that for them. And now that Feng's fees are cleared, they can travel and see the world together since they weren't able to before when Vivian danced with Ulysses. Speaking of Ulysses:
Ulysses Killed Edgar
I didn't want to believe it was him because it really did seem too obvious, but that's the same thing that happened with fans last season right? Although last season I did guess Yasper and that was me watching without knowing of any clues or that the subreddit existed (and I watched it like a week before season 2 so there's that). So everything was exactly as a majority of redditors theorized:
-He brewed the tea during the extremely long shower in Aniq's mind movie
-The whiskey glass was poisoned and accidentally swapped when Feng had Edgar taste the baobing; So Feng being high on adderall in the found footage video was correct
-It did all come down to Ulysses wanting Feng out of the way so he could be with Vivian
-He is delusional as all get out which does mirror Yasper's delusional story in S1
-When he ran to Feng and Vivian's room he expected to find Feng dead hence the shocked expression
-He had a knowledge of the devil's trumpet from his work as a shaman
What was missed was that Grace said she hated whiskey in episode 2 and he was swabbing a whiskey glass in his mind movie so that went right over our heads
Danner said he knew Grace wasn't his daughter so I applaud the writers on fooling me bc I spent the whole season thinking there was a paternity thing going on and nope, just Ulysses being a delusional buncle who is now headed for prison!
I find it so funny though that even though I changed my mind on who the killer was, I still figured out that he was sus because of the koumiss. But I'm a bit confused now bc he gave Travis the koumiss infused dutch babies but he used his horn to brew the tea so where did he store the rest of the koumiss? Did he have two horns? Because he tried to stop Vivian from drinking from it but this was after the days' events played out Does anyone know?
The End
All in all, this was an amazing season and I had so much fun sharing theories with you all and getting to talk about the show weekly. Season 3 is about to be off the chain so when the time comes we've got to More Horse it up! See you all then!

Afterparty babes, how are we feeling abt a multiple killer scenario now?
#the afterparty#i do think nearly everyone poisoned/drugged him at some point#but only one person planned to kill him#the issue is we only have Isabel and Grace’s motives#we still don’t know for sure that Ulysses poisoned the glass of whiskey#And there’s that theory of Hannah doing a slight of hand with his glass too#my brain is fried at this point
