Healing

Healing is green.

It’s the soft forest leaves,

It’s the rain-covered grass,

It’s…

It’s you. No, it was you.

It was your favourite.

It was your eyes.

But your clothes were blue,

Tracksuits and trainers,

Everything about you a different colour,

Contradictory.

Bruises are purple,

Then green, then yellow.

Healing is the mottled marks on my arm,

But bruising is the flinching looks towards silhouettes,

Strength is the constant push and pull of life,

Bleeding is the constant flow of thoughts,

Decaying.

Time is yellow,

Like fire nicknamed ‘safety flames’,

Like the hot sun,

Like sand but flowing too fine to hold,

Far too fine to make any sense of,

Aches the tongue,

Burns the lungs,

Chronic.

Life is multicoloured,

The faces are different, new, ever changing,

The voices are different songs,

Eyes different colours,

Every day monotone but bleeding with colour,

Decaying.
