The Github repository is now live! You can find it here!
I have most of the worldbuilding outlined and the magic system is pretty well defined. My next course of action is probably getting into the locations, the life, and cultures that exist within the world. I might take awhile as there is quite a bit of documentation that needs to be entirely rewritten.
so i have decided to host all of my writing on a github account because of several reasons. it allows me to throw everything i already have into plain text and it make it easy to keep track of how often i update. i still need to set it up but i will post the profile once i at least have an about me and some of the nav files

I just heard my mom tell my brother, “when you die, you will go outside and garden until your father says you’re done” and it took me a second to realize that my brother was playing a videogame and this was not a theological discussion.

on writing for a blog
i think part of the reason that i am struggling with making posts on this blog is the expectation of quality i want to communicate. in my head, everything is organized and neatly slots into each other giving me a robust set of tools i can use to create interesting ideas from the things that i find interesting. this organization is hard to put into words and is extra work to communicate precisely. ultimately i think it is worth it but it has proved to be a barrier to publishing my work in any meaningful sense. (not to mention this project is very personal to me and i have a hard time conceptualizing the fact that people will inevitably misinterpret my writing) going forward i won't promise a schedule, simply due to my living and working circumstances right now but i should promise something, and i think it will be substance of what i am doing with this project, dipping into the meta of what i want this project to be and how i will accomplish that

lots of personal family stuff has been happening and that has delayed me being able to post anything on a schedule but i just watched FuryForged video on the alchemy lab project that hes been working on, plus the section of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance has given some bangers, its been awhile since I've felt inspired
so alchemy, the idea that i had when watching the FuryForged vid was the importance that ecology plays in the development of alchemy, specifically with moss and its symbiosis with mushrooms. the central practice of alchemy is synthesis and distillation of the materials in order to transform it. Lichens are a platonic ideal of synthesis and have a habit of growing in places that are inhospitable to most other sedentary species. Their central to decomposition and the cycling of nutrients that is only possible because of the transformative nature of biology. The Philosophers Stone is definitely some sort of lichen growing on some unrefined metallic ore.
I like this idea because it connects alchemy to ecology which then allows me to then connect it to concepts that ecology is related to such as witches, medicine, nature spirits, and the gods.
Given this is a universe is strongly tied to mythology, alchemy plays a large part in the different Terran cultures development of material science and medicine. This means that most jobs get affected by alchemy on some level. as societies progress, literature and reading become more wide spread, alchemy become one of the first practices that gets launched into the cultural conscious as a new and exciting practice despite it existing for thousands of years.
Alchemy is a sister process to Philosophy, being able to read and write gave you access to any Mythic Art as long as you had the time and energy to put into the process of discovery. This also has a lot of interplay with how Deities interact with their Myths.

it sucks so bad that 'lightning magic' in every media is just some pathetic little strands of electricity. i wanna see some LIGHTNING. show me a magic setting where lightning magic lights up a room like the sun, and the bolt is only visible as an afterimage burned into your vision. I wanna see someone cast lightning and have the thunder rattling the room and shaking everyone to their core. i want lightning magic to be a split second blast of so much power it leaves everyone's senses reeling. c'mon guys don't you know what real lightning looks like? we can be doing so much better than this.

I've drafted a couple of posts and I can't seem to finish them in a way that is satisfactory without feeling like I'm publishing. So to get myself into the habit I think I'm going to post once a day on what I've written and go from there.
Fingers crossed I can keep a consistent schedule.

Welcome to the ✨️Mythopoeian Manuscripts✨️
This is a worldbuilding project that has been rattling around in my brain for the better part of a decade. It is love letter to fantasy, sci-fi, and myths. It is in equal parts fantastic and realistic, creating detailed and interconnected lore for the many tropes and stereotypes in cultural storytelling in the best way I know how, worldbuilding.
The conception of this work in progress has been with me ever since I put pen to paper seven years ago. I started writing down my thoughts in the middle of an existential dread that had taken over my high-school years. Ever since then this project has taken many forms, consumed many ideas, and integrated many stories. I have finally decided to publish this person log book of all my interconnected thoughts in an attempt to get myself to actively cultivate content to communicate to others as most of my writing and worldbuilding has been for the benefit of myself and my headspace.
(Here)[https://github.com/Altered-Intellect/Mythopoeian-Manuscripts/tree/main] is the github repository. This has an Obsidian vault with the project. Obsidian will prompt you to download two community extensions but they should not be necessary.
I will not promise consistent updates but I encourage questions! All I request is that they be on topic and about nothing personal.
As for fanart and derivative works, my only prerequisite is that you credit and send it to me to look at. (please include content warnings, of course) I'd love to see how my stuff resonates with others.
Thank you for taking the time for giving my stuff a read, no matter how small. Now lets explore the Myths together!

please picture a dragon. now, imagine it loafing like a cat. hunkered. legges in tight beneath. tail tucked close. eyes half lidded. front feets and claws curled under.

gotta throw in my hat into the ring
light-headedness and fainting, turns out burning through all the oxygen in your blood has consequences, who knew
nausea and dizzyness, shielding your body from your holy light spells isn't enough and now your gut microbiome is dead, better have some yogurt... or actually you might need a full stool transplant... oops
hunger... so much hunger, do you know how many calories a single fireball contains!?!?!? if its not getting it from the mana, its getting it from YOU.
numbness, there is so much strain on your nervous system, the frantic calculations, the constant buzz of mana through the body, the sense enhancements finally wearing away, leaving a hollow tired ache
anger, rage, wrath, it wasn't enough, its not all gone, it NEEDS to get OUT, it needs destruction, NOW
also a fan of positive magical side effects
elation, you changed the way the UNIVERSE itself behaves, and it bends to YOU, how are you ever going to get sick of that
revelation, you finally see it, how it all fits together, this is its purpose
peace, with this you have control. the way before you laid straight and you are nature itself here to run them through
perseverance, it moves you, keeps one foot in front of the other pointed toward your destination
determination, it wants what you want, and power always gets what it wants
catharsis, again you are free at last
vigor, like food it sustains you growth and passion fuel you as you give and take
i love the idea the magic is intrinsically tied to nature and the nature of the things it gets bound up in. magic as a fundamental force of reality that can not be separated from the rest of the users lived experience. magic is that is MADE of lived experience
Some of my favorite magic side effects:
-Nosebleeds. Never gets old.
-Coughing up blood. The good ol’ “cough into your hand and pull it back to see blood” also never gets old.
-Headaches. You keep fighting as your head pounds, desperately telling you to take a break. At first they fade within minutes when you stop using magic, but overtime, they become chronic.
-Fatigue. After a big battle, you stand triumphant, and then just fall asleep on the spot.
-In a similar vein, overuse causing you to straight up faint rather than just fall asleep. Darkness begins to overtake your vision in the middle of battle, unconsciousness abruptly looming over you.
-Any of the side effects happening to another person. Maybe two close characters are connected, and whatever side effects character A would normally endure are transferred to character B. When A uses a blast of magic B screams loudly because holy shit that hurt.
-Magic gradually deteriorating your mind. Using it too much eventually caused hallucinations and an inability to retain memories, or even larger scale memory loss.
Feel free to add more, I’m looking for some to steal
