Avoid magnetic fields – Stay clear of strong magnetic fields. There might be chances that you inadvertently magnetize your watch and cause erratic gear behavior. Your watch can even entirely stop. If your watch suddenly speeds up, then most probably the balance spring has become magnetized. Strong magnets present in laptops and stereo speakers can magnetize the balance spring causing the coil to stick together. This effectively shortens the balance spring and speeds up the watch. Avoid extreme temperatures – Moving between excessive hot and cold temperatures can cause parts to contract or expand, which can be a cause of erratic rate behavior.  Extreme heat can cause the watch’s lubricant to congeal, causing friction on gears.

Avoid air pollution – Avoid air pollution like cigar or cigarette smoke and cooking fumes, which can cause the strap to fade or change color.

Strap cleaner – You must regularly clean your strap with a specialized strap cleaner. You may do it about four times a year. However, don’t rub it harshly, sponge gently until all grime and stains are absorbed.

Washing hands – Avoid washing hands with a watch on, especially when the strap is of leather. Droplets may wear out the strap faster than its usual life.

Rinse with cold water – If you need to rinse your strap, rinse it with cold water, clear water but do not let it soak.

Don’t tighten it too much – A tightly worn strap will always wear out faster. Always wear your strap a little loose.

Dry it with a cloth – If your strap is wet, dry it carefully using a cloth but not let it dry under the sun or next to heating.
