also i think it's funny how tumblr was like "you can pay to see someone's posts" and we were all like FUCK you and they were like "... pay to... inflict your own posts... on others?" and we were like

Allow me to make use of tumblr’s new longpost shortening feature for a moment to say HEY… the comic we’ve been working on for the past year is live with *11 episodes* you can read RIGHT NOW.
Are you into Tech-Fantasy? Trans protagonists? Dragons? Comedy? …Romance? An oddball team of not-quite-knights chasing after a God’s last wish?
Check out HERE THERE BE DRAGONS on Webtoon!

Just saw yet another anti-ao3 post about how there’s a “middle ground” between zero censorship at all and 1984 police state and like, loaded as all hell language aside, no. We’ve seen, again and again and again, how fast that middle ground disappears as soon as the well-intentioned allies (and apparently naive dipshits in the actual affected categories themselves asking for censorship in the first place) let their guard down, how fast a “reasonable prohibition” on whatever content this person finds objectionable today will expand and turn on marginalized groups. And I’ve never once seen an actionable suggestion in one of those posts that’s nondiscriminatory, executable on the scale of all ao3 fics, and doesn’t require a fundamental change to the mission statement of the archive.

love how this whole “new people coming to tumblr now” situation has exactly the vibe of strange showing up in the saloon of an old western town and stepping on the creaking floorboard

"Fromsoft games are about suffering" wrong. They are about improving. They are about overcoming. It always seems impossible at first, but then you find a way. These games are hard, but if the only point was being hard, they could've accomplished that far easier. Why bother with RPG systems that let you strategize and grow stronger, that reward you for exploration and understanding the systems, if the only goal was to make a hard game. The design focus is on options, choices, and growth. The devs are laughing at you, but they want you to win. They are also cheering you on.

So, Microsoft is terrible. Yes yes, the oldest claim in the world.
But specifically... I just hate how Windows 10 tries to conflate and confuse web searches with things on one's own computer. The start menu should never do anything related to web-searching, especially if it purports to try to give examples of things that are on my hard drive!
This will make old, computer-illiterate people more malware-vulnerable. You have to maintain a strong distinction between "things that are on this computer (and maybe even included in Windows)" (safe, one hopes, or you already got pwned by it, probably), and "things on the web" (scary, dangerous, not to be trusted at all).
Eroding that barrier in the UI is awful. It just FEELS like a violation every time I start typing into the start bar, and it tries to show me ANYTHING web-related. My computer is NOT just an internet-portal! It has tons of stuff on it, and when I'm interacting with the OS, I ONLY want to see things that are already on here!
If I wanted to see something online, I would go to my browser! All the online stuff should be segregated into the browser!
Specific programs can access the internet; that's fine. But my OS's functions and interface should JUST be about the things that are already on my computer.

It’s infuriating how so many women were (and still are) discriminated against for being female
