i think a lot about how Shu Yi must’ve practiced making that fried rice for Shi De the first few weeks Shi De left. how much he want to be able to cook it so that once, Shi De comes back to hi, Shu Yi can make him something that’s actually edible. 

 i think a lot about how Shu Yi might’ve tried to make the fried rice that Shi De made for him, how he might’ve subsist on that fried rice alone during the first few months that he started to live on his own

he poured the right amount of soy sauce, he used the exact same oil, he cooked the rice the way Shi De taught him how, he even add the stupid fckn carrot but it just. won’t. taste. the. same.

he tried and tried and tried and failed to replicate the taste, the smell, the texture, the feeling

and here comes his heart, his love, making him the one thing he’s been trying to make, the one thing that reminds him of their happy days

i think a lot about how Shu Yi might be crying as he eats his dinner because how is it possible that he loves this person so much? how is it possible that the person who hurts him most still know him so well? still make him weak and soft and stupid? still make his heart waver?

how is it that the person who hurts him so much is still capable of loving him so good?

i think a lot about how, every time Shu Yi eats fried rice, he’s reminded of his lost love and heartbreak; of the one man he loves, the one man who promised him marriage and happiness, of the one man who left him and never look back
