literally always thinking about keep your hands off eizouken and how lovingly it depicts animation and animators… character animation as a form of acting in the way the animator has to be so conscious of how people move, the way animation takes on the idiosyncrasies of the people creating it, the importance of sound design and material resources and institutional support

the way ppl have been talking abt the whole watcher situation is so unhinged like there are big channels making videos abt how watcher betrayed their audience or ruined their careers or whatever like… making videos is their job. everyone is pissed off about streaming services but independent youtubers are not comparable to like, netflix, and youtube is well documented to be a less than great platform for ppl who do it full time (they HAVE to take outside sponsorships or have a patreon for it to be viable). i don’t particularly keep up with the channel but the response has been weirdly hysterical and self centered on the part of the audience despite this not even being the first or second time youtube channels have launched their own paid platforms because if it works, it IS better for them.
also the complaints about how the new content isn’t what they like, or watcher should just make different shows instead of asking for more money…? i would suspect they are making shows THEY like, which is hardly a crime. i think it’s worth questioning if the initial announcement was a smart business decision, but why make it out to be a case of moral outrage bc you don’t like when something personally inconveniences you. when ppl post any kind of art or entertainment etc on the internet for free, that doesn’t mean you’re entitled to their work and i do stand by that on principle

The humor in GIDEON THE NINTH isn't just cringe and annoying and outdated- but like, actively harms the book IMO. It sells itself as this quirky fantasy novel (lesbian necromancers in space!! isn't that goofy?? Gay people make things extra crazy!!) but at EVERY goddamn turn it has to have the characters go "isn't that weird? isn't this stupid?" like it's a marvel movie. Nothing can be taken seriously or be given weight. Even the central phrase of lyctorhood "One flesh, one end," returns in the epilogue to be made into an infantile sex joke. It's absolutely unbecoming of a FANTASY NOVEL that's trying hard to make you emotionally invested in these characters and this world especially. No one in Book of The New Sun, or Dune, (books that are SEVERELY more weird than what GIDEON was trying for) ever turns to the camera/reader and goes "riding worms? that's what SHE SAID! isn't this stupid? isn't it weird? Fighting with flowers? You've gotta be kidding me!" It's a fantasy novel!! fantasy!! and you're not as funny as pratchett or even HUSSIE so it just comes off like insecure unfunny DOO DOO ASS

Here’s what you’re not being told: The most pressing threats to our safety as Jewish students do not come from tents on campus. Instead, they come from the Columbia administration inviting police onto campus, certain faculty members, and third-party organizations that dox undergraduates. Frankly, I regret the fact that writing to confirm the safety of Jewish Ivy League students feels justified in the first place. I have not seen many pundits hand-wringing over the safety of my Palestinian colleagues mourning the deaths of family members, or the destruction of Gaza’s cherished universities.

sorry for not being normal. i love how carefully honeyworks has characterized aizou and yuujirou from their first introduction such that their personalities are clear and consistent from seika/yellow to hitsuyo fukaketsu to meoto to even hoka no yatsu ni iku nante sa/ore nashi ikite ikenai? to the magazine interviews! they’re not just contrasts but complementary on a textual level (solos that reply to one another, seika’s “i will make up for the parts that you’re lacking,” hitsuyo fukaketsu obviously always and forever) and their slow progression makes them genuinely so compelling and unique. even the earlier songs/hanipre live/light novels contain the conflict that they’ve now stated explicitly where yuujirou thinks aizou is too kind to him / aizou wants yuujirou to rely on him more. it’s all right there it’s always been there… i know i sound unwell

i hope that the discussion about student protests does not get reduced to "privileged rich kids faffing around at an ivy league school." setting aside that tenuous claim, over the last week, protests have erupted over the entire country. a few days ago, riot police beat, pepper-sprayed, and arrested NYU faculty shielding students; protests started at the university of southern california when the admin cancelled the valedictorian's speech; encampments appeared at the university of southern carolina, UT dallas, the university of maryland, the university of new mexico, IUPUI, virginia tech, the university of virginia, the university of illinois, the university of north carolina — chapel hill, the university of pittsburgh, uc berkeley, the university of michigan — ann arbor, MIT, emerson, tufts, the university of rochester, rice, swarthmore, the new school, vanderbilt university, with students arrested; students protested or walked out at miami university, northwestern, temple, the 5 claremont colleges: pomona, pitzer, scripps, harvey mudd, and claremont mckenna, stanford, washington university in st louis, students were arrested at ohio state, students were confronted by riot police at cal poly humboldt, after which they occupied campus, students were arrested at the university of minnesota — twin cities, after which faculty walked out; and yes, there are protests at the other ivies, most notably yale, with students facing mass arests after encampments, but there is also an encampment at brown, protests appeared at cornell, princeton faculty issued a statement of solidarity while students are preparing an encampment, and harvard banned the undergraduate palestine solidarity committee. there are thousands of students who are protesting for palestine across the entire country, facing harassment, arrest, and suspension in return
