Is it really that hard for the SNW writes to do something with Spock's character that doesn't involve a forced straight romance? The entire TOS series managed just fine for 76/79 episodes. It's getting extremely exhausting.

I gotta say I hate any "we put you under extra pressure so you work better" shit like what they're doing to Scotty here, because that's the mode I've been operating under for like seven years and it's thoroughly fucked me up, but then they also say that Scotty doesn't drink a lot when he's clearly an alcoholic in TOS, so I'll take this as actually not an endoresement of that pressure mentality.

rhys darby does an excellent job as trelane but the episode ending the exact same way as the TOS episode is lame as hell. also i've never liked strange new worlds' romance writing

I hope the costume designer, Bernadette Croft, gets a million emmy’s for SNW. She’s perfectly blended modern futurism with 60’s futurism in a way i could never fathom. Batel’s dress in particular is simple and elegant yet has that 60’s mod sprinkle with the shoulder. Chapels gown is a PHENOMENAL call back to TOS era fashion with the color, the shine, the bulky ornaments. All of this is complimented by the makeup team who did a great job as well

Season 3, episode 1: Hegemony, part II

I’m gonna diverge from my usual thing to talk about SNW because this is my blog and I can.

Commentary:

- The whole time the team that was in the digestive area thing, I was so fucking mad. They were just standing around and talking or going to do something else while everyone around them was being DIGESTED ALIVE. Like, hurry up or they WILL die. That one dude’s facial muscles were literally entirely exposed. I find it hard to believe that they survived for that long while they had already deteriorated that much previously. I get what they were trying to do, but I feel like they should have ripped people out and THEN escaped, that would make it less likely to that they would get COMPLETELY DIGESTED. This was pissing me off so much, I genuinely wanted to scream at them

- That whole scene in sickbay between Chapel and Spock was just setting off red alerts in my mind. But instead of the alarm sound, it was just “WARNING: HETEROSEXUAL SPOCK”. I actually swear, that is what I was thinking the whole time. Also, was he crying?????

- The fact that Scotty works better under pressure explains a lot.

- I deadass thought that Ortegas was gonna die, the framing made it seem like it was actually gonna happen. They did that part pretty well.

- Did Pike call God “Dad”???? It probably just that he had a religious father and he was about to submit to his will and pray, but I chose to believe that Pike was just being blasphemous because that’s 100x funnier.

- The makeup team went off on this episode. Especially the part where those grey bubbles were coming out of Batel, that was pretty gross. I know that part of that was effects, but they probably had some help from makeup too. Idk, whoever did it did a good job.

- I am still of the opinion that they should have kept the paper mache gorn design and had everything else be expensive effects, that would be hilarious.

- I can’t believe they didn’t die doing that star thing.

8/10, I’m generally more of a fan of old trek and SNW isn’t my favorite thing ever, but this was pretty solid.

No spoilers pls, I’m watching this with my dad and he could only watch one today, so I have to wait until tomorrow to see the next one.

Btw, I will be posting a review of a TNG episode shortly, I was about halfway through one when my dad called me to watch SNW.
