Because I couldn't resist overthinking about them without using a pseudo-sciency little website so...
If anyone's interested, here's the full list of types.
Let's go!
Atsushi
Atushi's most likely a Type 6: Loyalist.
I mostly relied on the basic fears/desires descriptions for a lot of these, but to me, Atsushi's main problem is how little he believes in his own competence when there's no one he can fall back on. Everytime the ADA agents say they trust him with a mission, he's like "but should you??" Luckly, time and time again, he overcomes it. Atsushi is also very loyal not just to the people he cares about (Dazai, Kyouka, the ADA), but to the values those people insilled in him:
Kunikida
I mean. I think we all know he's a Type 1: The Reformer.
I don't think I need to say much more. Kunikida is perfectionistic to a fault, and resents the qualities in people (re: Dazai) that do not meet his standards. He is also terrified of being someone that causes, even indirectly, harm to others (the Azure Messenger Arc), and terrified of being someone who is happy that their ideals were not met (Hunting Dogs Arc). When he faces criticism, he panics, shuts down. Man, why do they all need therapy?
Ranpo
After a bit of a debate with a friend who had read Untold Origins (I have not) I figured Ranpo is a Type 4: The Individualist:
Ranpo has always seen himself as different from others, be it good or bad. Right now, decidedly, he sees himself in a good light, one where he is the "Greatest Detective". I wants to be admired by others, for others to see him as "one of a kind". He needs praise and approval from Fukuzawa. His place in the world is very important to him. I would say more once I actually read Untold Origins. But yeah!
Dazai
Coming but, it's the grabage man himself, Dazai Osamu. He was also relatively easy to pin down: Type 5, The Investigator.
Now, you might assume that I have Ranpo's and Dazai's types switched, after all, it seems like their roles in the story contradict them. BUT, remember that it's not just about their roles, it's about their issues: "Although both types can explore personal darkness more thoroughly than most, Fours tend to focus on their disappointments in love and with their childhoods and their attendant pain. Fives tend to focus on inner emptiness and feelings of meaninglessness."
Fives tend to become more withdrawn from the world the more stressed they are. They become nihilistic. That and:
Dazai is scared that he doesn't know how to human? And the lack of answers to that is so frustrating and isolating when other people seem to have figured it out. That, and Dazai pingpongs between "I can't change anything - I should just give up and die" and the need to control his environment and the actions others take in his favor.
Bc Tumblr limits the number of images I'm making a part 2.
i feel like dazai and anime dazai are gonna become so separated anime dazai becomes his own character and then people are going to start drawing animezai x chuuya x dazai or animezai x dazai until its like the onceler and suddenly every zai is entirely different and people say "i ship wanzai x chuuya and animezai with magicalzai"
a small preview of my work for @skkangstzine! ft. chuuya's victimized car (...) truly an incredible amount of hard work has gone into this zine and preorders are open rn so check it out if you'd like!
