I’m curious how many blu- rays they’re gonna do, and what characters to expect in the inliner
Id like to see newer characters but im thinking they’ll generally stick to the marketable/popular/on the cover of the novel, crowd + deathtopia bc deathtopia oozes marketability, I don’t see meniko making it but there’s like a slight chance for Higasa to show up in the bg of monster season stuff.
Since a portion of blu ray covers get turned into figures I wonder if they’ll try and aim for that with how many covers include the trio and how many arcs involve them. I could see that.
I’m not totally expecting a bake set with a dvd sold per arc, but more an owari/owari 3 thing where they have a sleeve with two arcs on it and a dvd case with another in its final set in like a 2-3 DVD case maybe they’ll try and give it a limited time fancy shell later if they wanna box it up a lot
(some of these shells get lost ngl and you have to search for them, sometimes they don’t have the best scans for their art online tbh, really how frequently you see those around depends on the circles you spend time in, some don’t even know that on the back of the second season compilation box set has shinobu on it, fan box sets are also interesting but mostly bc power of fan culture to get anime shit out there dvd wise to the west but tbh that’s kinda died down more with increased access including like, nozomi entertainment just straight up putting out dvds with newer translations for zetsubou sensei)
Anyway tldr i think the order will prolly go
Cover girl-> second arc girl’s art on the back of the outer shell sleeve of cover girl -> third arc they adapt on the dvd case itself with the first and third arc having some of the art printed on the CDs themselves
For monster season stuff I could see it going for a cover girl on the outside and early arc events on the shell -> later arc events on the box and maybe on the back is a picture of Nadeko with the cover girl to rep the sub arcs when they happen
No idea what they’ll do for musubi tho lol, maybe a hitagi cover maybe a group photo like koyomimono

Thoughts on the idea of the Fire Sisters meeting Oshino Ougi?
As a duo I feel like there’s an untapped market of Ougi vs fire sisters interactions. We kinda know how Ougi and Tsukihi would go because of zokuowari. (Being how Tsukihi is an unchangable eternal existence that’s kinda immune to how Ougi just is) But with Karen it could be very interesting mostly bc of how manipulatable and insecure she is, by herself it would be fun to see even if it’s just post owari teenaged Karen going full detective on her own at Koyomi’s school and Ougi is simply there as a mysterious side character of some sort, def a fun dynamic (even if it’s mostly Ougi bullying Karen). As a duo I think a full fire sisters VS Ougi type oddity story would go hard as it would be interesting to see the fire sisters more in action with Ougi also present solely for the chaos factor. I’d say Tsukihi would end up playing counterbalance to Karen and that would keep the arc from being pulled into Karin manipulation hour.
Over all I think it could be fun.

How reliable a narrator would you expect Ougi to be compared with Koyomi?
Only as reliable as you are willing to trust ougi. The big thing with Koyomi’s POV is that he’s hard to rely on because he puts on that face of honesty to obfuscate himself and make himself look worse, and being the primary character for such a long time makes it hard to distinguish what is and isn’t real from him. So it’s hard to rely on his unreliability in that sense.
Ougi on the other hand is unreliable in a way everyone can see, oozing sarcasm and suspicion, not so reliable but more reliably unreliable. Kinda like how koimonogarari is written like Kaiki is trying to tell a story to piss Araragi off as much as possible. You can see lies ahead of time but also there’s mystery in the truth of kaiki, as we don’t know his full truth. Ougi has a clear truth, a clear lie, a clear sarcasm, and a clear wit.
I feel while not an honest perspective it would be heavily implicit, after all it’s not about what ougi knows, it’s about what you do.
Anyway, that said, ougi travel is translated so you can actually get a glimpse at ougi’s inner monologue, I generally recommend doing that and getting your own comparisons from there.
(You can find it on Reddit pretty easily as it’s a quick link from the monogatari translation master post but if you wish for more convenience here)
I feel like I’m more confident in ougi’s narration than Araragi’s, generally because theres only so much. Also the Koyomi perspective thunderdome.

Now for the sillier half of this! As I simply wish to get it out there
On my tracks theory of how off+monster is consumed as a piece of media there’s something I did not mention that I thought of at the same time, whilst brainstorming this concept! I did not mention it because it was dumb and kinda silly, but fun to entertain.
The concept that because of the fact that they’re going to hype up nadeko arc wise and going to hype up shinobu arc wise that they’d organize the way they adapted it to maximize that fact, and for any other conclusion or ending they’d choose to make they would need to do something similar to keep pacing.
Aspects of this work and make sense but if you implement that form of structure non seriously you can come up with the dumbest order possible depending on what you are and aren’t willing to cut (I’ve considered making a larger chart on what effects what monogatari arc solely so I can create fucked up watch orders for shits and giggles)
For examples here is “the bad timeline” and “the worse one” watch order
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The concept of these are what if we did get a danganronpa 3 style order, and what if they did that but created a forbidden sodachi track where by teasing and baiting fans of a character they stretched out their arc for hype reasons in the most fucked up way they could
Another concept is that you could organize arcs adapting 4 arcs as a bunch however that fundamentally does not work because they’re all different sizes (even if there are 20), two books at a time works unless you want to shuffle the adaptation order.
There’s also the concept of trying to stick off season books with monster season books varying by arc to theoretically try and build to musubi as an ending but the effort would devolve fast due to lack of cohesion,
Really I just wanted to play with the concepts of its standard deviation and thus made a bunch of charts about it with the arc tier list and some art programs I use
Shaft electing to Shinobu max to put an arc with her in every episode set would be beyond my own control, part way through doing this I did like an arc ranked by marketability tier list and felt bad about it so I didn’t finish,
The end I suppose!
Given the things known about the adaptation as it is seemingly implied I thought it would be fun to try an imagine or chart out how’s and why’s of how off+ monster would be adapted
If tsukihi undo is first one can only imagine what kind of changes to order one could make for the sake of operating on a smooth track of adaptation
The first thing one notices about the tracks of off and monster season is that there’s two main tracks they follow plot wise to their respective ends in shinomono, the Nadeko track and the Shinobu track
By following the prestablished novel release order you can easily reach the end of said track smoothly, however it’s pretty likely they’ll change the order of some arcs for advertising or really any other standard reason. Personally, i believe main reason why tsukihi undo is first is because it’s very marketable, however if one thinks on those tracks you can get some very wild results!
Below the cut are charts and explanations of bizzare ideas and foolish thoughts
Tumblr media
This chart exists as a precedent to this conversation, since I cant explain it in the image description I’ll start with the foundations. As a narrative monogatari is non linear, because of how it handles that fact you can essentially read some arcs out of release order and have it not “ruin the story” for you. Truly as long as you don’t skip something that needs another novel’s context to make sense at all or undermines a story element, it’s generally fine.
Essentially what I mean by this is some arcs have more required reading than others, and what arcs require said reading along with their publishing order can create a list of standard deviation in which arcs can be moved in adaptation. Yet because of advertising, pacing, or company higher ups, it makes those outlier orders more likely.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you organize the stories by how they feed into each other, the gap between the structures of monster and off season is made apparent. Because of how musubi is so conclusive the temptation exists to move it to the end of serialization. It does work in the sense of linearity, however it could easily have early off season arcs (like tsubasa sleeping or karen ogre) which connect to it in a more subtle sense, to be thrown off a bit intent wise.
Gaps of time between adaptations can genuinely effect communal response even if it reads better when everything is out.
This is why I think if they had to make shinobumono happen sooner for marketing reasons that after nademono and before musubi wouldn’t the worst time to place it. Its status would parallel the structure of monster season’s remaining books in alternating between an araragi and a Nadeko story, and it would feel like thematically resolute enough to feed into musubi while doing that. The return to the setting post musubi might be a bit awkward (which is the biggest issue with doing that) but I think that the story can handle it.
My other thought is if they wanted to rush the idea and build hype they could try and air princess beauty or acerola bon appetite a bit early. I think it would be better if they waited for waza but if they wanted to push the narrative of Shinobu hype and push other things out of order, they could fairly seamlessly do that here. Solely because of the fact that it wouldn’t throw off schedule too much. Even if it wouldn’t make sense.
For what makes sense generally this is probably the most realistic outcome in my eyes
In my coming reblog I’ll discuss the seemingly sillier concepts I thought while considering this, check the notes if curious about a second half

That’s pretty good, to shake things up they could try and throw in mayoi welcome in theory
