Aucitioneers
Date & Time: February 21st, around 4pm Location: Uptown, near The Easton Availability: @nadiaives Note: Reposting so I can track it
Ro was no stranger to the finer speakeasy haunts in Manhattan—and some in Brookyln and Queens, too. She liked her booze and she liked a change of scenery when she did it—fey be damned if it was in Seelie territory. As long as they kept to themselves, she’d keep to her own, too. Ro knew better than to pick a fight, if only because it would blow back on the Queen if she did, as Ro tended to leave a trail of blood where ever she went. The Auction House reminded Ro of the Rookery a little bit, and it was just a six minute walk from the Easton. 4pm meant it was 5 o’clock somewhere, or enough for a happy hour cocktail or two until it became such. Sitting at the bar, she heard the girl next to her ask about propriety on a Wednesday night to no one in particular. “Depends on what you have to do the next day,” Ro quipped, raising a brow and opening her body language as she drank an Old Fashioned with an orange twist. “And how well you do wine drunk. That’s not everyone’s look.”
Tumblr media
It hadn’t taken long for Nadia to find The Auction House after she’d moved into her new apartment at The Easton and she’d quickly become a regular there. She appreciated the sense of seclusion it offered and of course, being so close to her home was another benefit. Nadia thought about what she had planned for the next day, she’d been supposed to meet with a few designers and go to a fitting for an upcoming show, but she was Nadia Ives. Didn’t the prestige that went along with her name entitle her to some diva behavior? “Nothing that can’t be cancelled.” She replied. “I’m pretty sure I’m better with wine than I am with... everything else. That’s definitely a good sign, right?”

It had been a long week. Nadia had to remind herself over and over that it was only Wednesday and still she didn’t quite believe it.  At the very least, she could comfort herself with the knowledge that she was almost home and could spend the evening relaxing. A long bubble bath and a cleansing face mask sounded like heaven to her in that moment. “Do you think getting hardcore wine drunk is inappropriate on a Wednesday night?” Nadia mumbled, thinking longingly of the unopened bottle of Bordeaux in her apartment.

When: February
Where: Central Park
Who: Open
Central Park was her favorite part of New York. The only part that didn’t leave her feeling overwhelmed by all the strangeness around her. There was still plenty to stare in awe and wonder over. New things to see every time she walked into it. But it felt a little more calming. Even in the coldness of winter she ventured out in the afternoons for a little people watching. On cold days she always came with a cup of warm milk from a coffee shop she passed on her way. Hands warmed by the cup she walked through the park slowly looking for an empty bench, getting distracted by the things she saw. The first empty bench she came to had a clear view of some dogs playing. Perfect! Carefully Kaitlin poured some of the milk into the lid and placed it on the other side of the bench for any animals that might need a warm drink before turning her attention to the dogs. She watched them tumble around each other, enthralled by how happy and carefree they looked. Kaitlin laughed loudly at their antics not paying attention to anything else. “They’re so cute!” Her words were loud enough to be heard by anyone near even though she was talking to herself.
Tumblr media
In the colder months of the year, Nadia generally avoided the outdoors as much as humanly possible. Despite having been raised in New York, she and the cold did not mix well. That morning seemed to be the exception though. With the snow settled on the streets and in the bare branches of the trees, Nadia felt a strange urge to be at one with nature.
A long run through the winter-kissed park and an upbeat playlist as an accompaniment had her in an exceptionally friendly mood and so when she came to a slow stop, Nadia couldn’t keep a smile off her face as she watched the scene of the dogs playing with one another. “I wish my dog was as friendly as they are.” Nadia said, half in reply to the girl nearby and half speaking to herself. “Maybe I’ll adopt one of these guys for myself.”

He hated this. Even if he could somehow earn back what they used to have, some sort of resemblance of the siblings they’d once been, it couldn’t last. He wouldn’t be able to tell her anything about his life soon enough. If what he’d done didn’t keep them apart the secrets certainly would. He could tell in the way her gaze accused, it the way words that weren’t spoken were shielded because of fractured trust. But he didn’t know what else to do…
To be fair, he had warned her not to stick around. Tears threatened to fall as she admitted her fear over the entire ordeal and he wanted to be able to tell her that everything was alright, that she was safe, that no one was going to hurt her. But he didn’t know these things and he’d let her down many times before. “I know,” he answered simply, looping an arm around her shoulders in a protective nature before realizing maybe she wouldn’t want that.
“I - uh, we – we can’t do anything to help here anyway. You should probably head home…Can I - …walk you…?” He really shouldn’t have to ask and the protective side of him was raging at the thought of her leaving here without someone, but he didn’t want to make assumptions.
Tumblr media
It was so easy to let her head rest on his shoulder, with his arm around her she felt safe, protected. Nadia could close her eyes for a moment and try to gather her thoughts. Breathe she told herself sternly, trying to will away the images of blood pooling on the floor flashing behind her eyelids. After allowing herself a few precious moments of peace, Nadia shifted away from him, that sense of distrust she harboured towards Forest always lurking, even in that moment when she knew she needed his comfort.
Tumblr media
“Yeah, I guess you’re right.” Nadia admitted, her voice indicating that more than anything she was tired. The night had been an emotional roller coaster for her, joy and anger and now an oppressing sense of confusion digging its claws into her mind She couldn’t make the sense of what had happened and although she couldn’t shake that feeling of wrongness, Nadia also knew she wasn’t likely to find the answers to the questions burning in her mind. Not alone. For tonight, all she could do was push everything down, try to carry on as normal. And Forest no longer meant normal for. “You don’t have to do that.” She replied, regret tinging her voice. The idea of being alone was not an appealing one, but she knew she needed some time to sort out her spiralling mind. “I can call an uber or get a ride with someone or... something.” Again, she felt the need to prove that she was okay without him in her life.

daveyventura :
Serious business man? Davey wrinkled his nose just at the thought. As if anyone would take him seriously as a business man; he’d have to start going by David. No, thank you. But she didn’t question him beyond that, teasing instead, and Davey appreciated that more than she would probably ever know. He laughed easily. “Yeah, see, you get me! It makes me easy to spot, ya know? For uh, anyone who needs, uh…” Davey frowned. What did a serious business man even do? “Business… things?” Sure, that worked. He fixed her with a skeptical look – Nadia was a standout in any crowd, and that was just an objective fact as far as Davey saw it – but he appreciated the sentiment. And how quickly she got the bartenders attention. “Nothing special, huh?” He ordered a vodka soda for himself and then flashed her a grin.  “So, is not party crashing, like, a normal weekend thing for you? What’d you hear about this thing, anyways?” And how, he couldn’t help but wonder, though in a city like New York it wasn’t too hard to imagine how word got around. And it was hardly Davey’s place to care how other humans found out about this thing, beyond a general concern for Nadia’s well-being that came from her being anywhere near the fey at all.
Tumblr media
Nadia raised an eyebrow in his direction, doubt lining her features but she decided against teasing him about it, although holding back her laughter at his expression took a considerable effort on her behalf. “I wouldn’t say that exactly.” She replied to his question with a shrug. She ignored the ever so slightly suspicious tone in his questions, instead chalking it up to general curiosity and conversation making on his part. “Generally my invites to these sorts of things are far more formal but a girl likes to change things up a bit on occasion.” Nadia paused to take a sip of her drink. “A friend told me about it. I wasn’t sure I was going to come, crashing isn’t exactly my style, y’know, but obviously she ended up convincing me.”

“Probably a good idea,” Garnet said, a shaky sigh in her voice, setting down the bottle. Her eyes flickered up to meet Nadia’s. The slight tremor was settling, her hands stilling. Although the tequila was thawing her shock, it was helping her pull the fragmented pieces of her nerves back together. And seeing Nadia helped, too. The brunette had a grounding effect on her, reminding her of who saw was. “Maybe it’s time to go home, Nadia. That,” she paused for a beat, scrambling to get around the lie. “That scene wasn’t funny at all. Are you alright?”
Tumblr media
Nadia nodded in agreement with Garnet’s, although she wasn’t quite able to put words to all the panicked thoughts raging in her mind. For a moment, she couldn’t think to do anything but stare as she considered her question. A question which pulled up all the fear she’d been fighting to keep down. “I’m...” Nadia took in a deep breath. Was she alright? She wasn’t sure. “I’ll be okay. You?” Nadia tried to give Garnet a comforting smile, but fear and concern for her friend was smeared across her features.

Nadia was surprised at herself that she was still at the Capitale. She hadn’t planned to stay out this late when she’d left her apartment earlier that night and after what she’d seen, all Nadia wanted was to go home where she felt safe and get some sleep. She shook her head when Garnet offered her the bottle, all too aware of the pounding in her head. The effects of the drinks she’d had earlier in the night beginning to take their toll. “No thanks. I don’t think that’s such a good idea.” Nadia would have liked nothing better than to knock down a few shots and let herself forget about this whole disastrous night, but that nagging feeling of dread in her stomach cautioned against it.
Tumblr media
when: after midnight, february 2nd 2018
where: capitale (inside, the bar)
who: anyone
Garnet had seen close to three hundred games of fidchell being played out in front of her. Human blood had stained the soles of her shoes as it leaked off the board more times than she could count. And she hadn’t had cared. But this was different. This was one of her own, with nails in her eyes, dead on a holy day. Chaos surrounded her but shock had her completely still and silent. Until it was starting to leave her, her psychological comfort blanket falling from her shoulders and leaving a tremor in her hands. Not wanting anyone to see, Garnet turned on her heel, the grace she had worn all evening gone, and marched to the now unattended bar. She went behind it ( did anyone care at this point? ), pulled out a shot glass and grabbed the neck of a bottle of tequila. She poured the alcohol, missing most of the glass and spilling it onto the wood thanks to the shake that was growing worse and worse. She lifted the shot to her lips, swallowing, glad for the burn that brought her back to her body. With her nerves soothed, she finally registered the company she had. “Would you like one too?” She asked, fear shaking her voice, as she lifted the bottle and waved it slightly.

forcstfire :
Forest wanted nothing more than to be able to tell her the truth. He wanted to tell her everything; how he’d missed their father’s last few days because he’d been trying so desperately to save him, how he’d made a thoughtless decision that flipped pretty much his entire world on end. How really all he wanted was to sink back into the familiarity of before, to have his sister and his job and his life back. But he couldn’t. He couldn’t tell her the secrets of the feyry world. He couldn’t tell her everything he’d done. If she hated him now, how much more would she hate him for killing people to save another? How much would she hate him knowing he’d made a decision that fractured any chance of their being a family again?
Lying seemed easier…and that was physically impossible.
“I didn’t - “ Didn’t what, didn’t see it? He had though and what she said was true. It was a body, it was real blood. “I didn’t see what happened - I don’t know what happened. I - I don’t know what this is, Nadia - honestly. It doesn’t make sense.” He passes a hand through his hair; she shouldn’t be here. She never should’ve been here in the first place, but she definitely shouldn’t be here now. “I’m uh - I’m just glad you’re okay. Are you sure you’re okay?”
Tumblr media
“That’s what I’m saying,” she said urgently. “It doesn’t make any sense. A dead body a party is one thing but... Why are they acting like it’s nothing? And why are you-” Nadia cut herself off before she could let that thought fully form.
There were tears in her eyes, though Nadia couldn’t say what they were a response to. It could have been the shock and fear that were still running in her system or the disappointment that even now, when she was trying so hard to trust Forest, he still felt so distant. The sense that he wasn’t telling her everything poisoning every one of his kind words.
“I’m not hurt.” She responded, her voice flat. She wasn’t hurt. There was nothing that could have physically hurt her, well, except the murderer that she could’ve been in the same room with for god knows how long and the frantic crowds around the body. But they weren’t the things consuming her thoughts. “I’m- I’m scared.” It was obvious, anyone who looked at Nadia could see that she was terrified, but her being able to admit that to Forest after everything that had happened seemed like a kind of twisted miracle in that moment.

forcstfire :
Everything that had unfolded from the midnight hour on was essentially just a flurry of movement. The first few minutes was just utter shock and confusion; a Seelie was dead in the fountain, fey blood had been spilled, essentially the unthinkable had occurred. But Adare and Tiger had been quick on their feet to pull together the glamour and, albetit, a not so great cover story, for the humans who had entered the shindig uninvited. Many had cleared the site shortly there after with hopes that this didn’t mean an end to everything they’d built, a truce between the Courts that was already so fragile. All that remained was a much needed explanation and understanding of what exactly had occurred.
To say Forest hadn’t thought of Nadia almost immediately after everything unfolded would be a lie; she was among the first on his mind. But she had made it very clear earlier on that she could take care of herself. If he had tried to text her he’d assumed he’d get no response. But that hadn’t stopped the anxiety from building in his chest when he hadn’t seen her around. What if something had happened to her? What if she was hurt? What if she was alone? Scared?
The relief was overwhelming when the familiar voice spoke his name (or, what once had been), and he was sure it was apparent in his face when he turned to face her. Even if all he got to know was that she was alive and well it was good enough for now. But the look she gave him was almost worse than the daggers she’d been firing before because there was a horror and terror behind her irises that he never wanted to see. “Don’t worry,” He hedged, trying to find words that were allowed on his tongue and calming at the same time. “I don’t know what’s going on - but you’re okay, right? You’re not hurt?” Physically she was fine - mentally he couldn’t be sure. Seeing a dead body and then getting essentially lied to about it? That couldn’t be easy on her…”They said it was just some trick - I don’t know…”
Tumblr media
Nadia’s mind briefly flicked back to their conversation earlier that night. The venom in her words and her desperation for him to just tell her the truth. She felt that urge starting to rise again at his answer. He was avoiding her question. She could tell there was something there, some scrap of knowledge that he was keeping from her because, what, she couldn’t be trusted? A few hours ago, Nadia would have been furious, but her panic, her fear, smothered that anger.
“I-I’m fine.” Nadia said, a trembling voice and her shaking hands betraying that she was far from it. “No, no-” she said shaking her head. “I saw blood over there. Real blood. I’m sure of it.” A shiver ran down her spine as the sight of the blood pooling near the fountain flashed through her mind. Nadia had had brushes with death before, but she’d never seen something like that before. “I don’t know what’s happening but...” Nadia took a deep breath trying to calm herself down. “It was more than some dumb prank, Kev.” Nadia’s eyes met his, silently begging for him to agree with her. She was so confused and so scared in that moment. She didn’t think she could handle her brother of all people brushing off her fears.

lcaricn :
“Yeah,” Aster sat back in their seat as they started, “how new are you to the feyry world, anyway? I’ve seen you around at the Rookery, so you can’t be totally shocked by all this. That place is saturated in feywild.” Feywild, the word the fey used to call the magic they were gifted with. And an apt name in Aster’s opinion because of how sometimes the magic of fey could run rampant if its user was not careful nor skillful enough. “Oh, the fey are super down for electricity. I can’t imagine it didn’t make our lifestyle grander than it had been. But they probably picked the night’s theme for its aesthetic.” And it was a stunning choice. Indeed the glow of the hanging flames gleamed as if in agreement.
Their head tilted with a smile at the model’s statement. “Then for how much? I’m sure purity has no price but if it did, I’m certain a million could cover it.” Fey practices of old were wrought in fire and the belief in its purifying powers because, clearly, even their ancestors believed their kind were rotten. Aster’s eyes settled on the human woman before it occurred to them that they should explain. “The fey jump the fire every year in hope of purifying themselves. Some old wives’s tale we still pretty much believe in.”
Tumblr media
“Very new.” Nadia had been a regular at the Rookery for quite a few years, but her knowledge of the Feyry world had come later. Given the fey’s extended lifespans, that time probably seemed like nothing to them anyway. “I guess you’re right. But I’ve had time to get used to all that at the Rookery. I have to adjust to it all over again now that I’m here.” Nadia gave a cursory glance around the room again, considering their words. “If I ignore the fact that it’s a major fire hazard, then I guess I can appreciate the aesthetic choices.” Nadia said thoughtfully, although she continued to eye the open flames suspiciously as she spoke.
“Purity is overrated.” Nadia replied with a shrug. Given her previous experiences with fire, Nadia would much rather remain impure and stay as far from the bonfire as possible. “No offence to you guys. I mean, if that’s what you believe then you’re welcome to jump over as many fires as you want but it’s not for me. Not for all the money in the world.”

When: February 2nd, around 1am
Where: Capitale
Availability: @forcstfire
Nadia’s mind was spinning. She’d seen blood on the floor, she was sure of it, and now people were trying to tell her it was a joke. Nadia hadn’t seen very much of the horrific scene before she’d had to turn away, but she trusted that sick feeling in her stomach. The one telling her that something very bad had happened. Telling her she wasn’t safe.
In the back of her mind, Nadia had always known that she probably couldn’t trust the Fey. They were practically drug dealers for god’s sake, but Nadia had just shrugged it off. She couldn’t do that with what she’d just seen. She was scared, and the chaos around her wasn’t helping at all. She had to get out of here. As she tried to push her way out of the tightly packed crowd who all seemed to be pushing toward the body she saw a familiar face.
“Kevin.” For an instant, her anger and pride were forgotten. There was terror in her eyes as she looked up at him. “What’s going on?” She asked, her voice shaking with fear.

the-seelie-quintessential :
She was the picture of elegance, of a kind of grace Quinn had never felt they’d had—nor had they ever really tried. Quinn didn’t particularly think they were meant to be glamorous in anyway, but still, they could appreciate the way it seemed to radiate off this woman.
They frowned, a quick shake of their head. “Oh, no—no of course not. Don’t let me chase you away or anything. Uh, I’m Quinn. What brings you here tonight?”
Tumblr media
It was weird, this whole talking in code thing. Especially in an event where there was almost an equal chance of there being unaligned humans around. And not being a Fey, and not having been a part of the world all that long, Quinn didn’t know enough people to feel comfortable making assumptions. So they spent much of their time just… pitter-patter-ing around the subject until it became clear where whoever they were talking to fell on the spectrum of Fey-Not-Fey.
“Why does everyone care why I’m here so much.” Nadia muttered grumpily to herself. She had to force herself not to roll her eyes as she thought back to her conversation with Forest. “Uh- a friend told me about a fun party. I figured I’d check it out.” Nadia had noticed the way everyone at this party seemed to be dancing around the truth. Especially with her. She got it, most of the people here didn’t know her. They didn’t know if they could trust her. Although Nadia knew she shouldn’t go blurting out what she knew of the Fey to some stranger on the street, she didn’t feel keeping the secret was as high stakes for her as it was for everyone else. Nadia desperately wished she could just be honest for a night. “I’m Nadia by the way.” She said, giving the other a wide smile. A sad attempt at disguising the frustration she was feeling.

Nadia’s eyes were wide, a million thoughts running through her mind as she tried to make sense of what she thought she’d just seen. She didn’t protest as he moved to obstruct her view. He was right. Nadia did not have the stomach for such sights. “I- I don’t understand how...” She hadn’t seen much more than the blood on the floor but it was enough to panic Nadia. She’d just wanted a fun night out. She hadn’t expected to see a dead bosy. “Shouldn’t we... call the police or something?”
It resembled a sea of rubies. It very well may have been, was it not for the violent souvenir it left in its wake.
“Alright, let’s just take a step back shall we?” He whispered, instinctively raising his hand to shield the person behind him, obstructing their view.

“Pretty sure you don’t want to see this.”

forcstfire :
Forest wished he could give her an answer to her question. He wished he could explain that everything he’d done had been for their family, for their father, so that none of them had to go through the pain and the loss. But at this point he had a feeling that no matter what he said she wouldn’t care. Hell, she probably wouldn’t even believe him. Not only would he sound like a crazy person but she’d probably hate him even more for making up stories.
So he kept his mouth shut. Silence without an explanation seemed like the better road than trying to put everything into words. Maybe one day he could explain. Maybe somehow he would find the words. But now…now was not that time.
When she pushed away the drink he truthfully didn’t understand. Nothing he did was right anymore. Give her what she wanted and she’d twist it into something he’d done wrong, somehow. The sarcasm that dripped off her words made him look away, suppress a roll of his eyes by scanning the event instead. Big brother bullshit. But the rest of her words brought his attention back quickly. “You have friends here? Who could you possibly know here?” His immediate assumptions was Larkspur, Tiger - one of the lures. Someone dragging her into this hell-scape that he wanted her to run far, far away from. What if they promised her her deepest desires? Nadia was not made for the Fidchell board.
Tumblr media
The silence between them felt deafening. Nadia wanted to scream at him, demand answers to the questions that had been plaguing her for so long now. Where did my brother go? The question was burning in her mind, but she pushed it down. He hadn’t given her the answers she wanted yet, why would he start now? If he wasn’t even going to respond to her Nadia sure as hell wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction of knowing just how much she was hurting.
“What the fuck does that mean?” Nadia practically growled. Always pushing for an argument with him, never allowing herself to look vulnerable. “Yes. I have friends here. Why else would I be here?” Nadia snapped, surprised by the genuine anger that had replaced the sarcasm in her tone. “It’s a big city, Forest and some people actually enjoy my company. If anything, I should be asking you why you’re here. I can’t imagine why anyone would want you around at a place like this.” In truth, that was a question Nadia most certainly did not want the answer to. She’d had her suspicions about Forest’s new life and she was so close to connecting the dots for herself, but that was a truth that Nadia was not eager to face.

daveyventura :
“Sure, sure, if that’s what you wanna call it,” Davey agreed with an easy laugh, though he couldn’t help the thought that this was hardly the party anybody should be crashing. Was this how Bette met Hyacinth? Was it something as innocent as what Nadia was doing, finding herself in the wrong place at the wrong time? And Davey couldn’t warn her, could he, not without exposing a secret that would get him killed sooner rather than later. “Yeah, uh,” his hand moved up the the brim of his hat, fiddling with it slightly. “Got a job at Oakenfold, actually. Not quite, ya know…the Yankees,” there was nothing to do but say so; Nadia was surely wondering what led to his colossal downfall, and Davey couldn’t hide the pain that tinged his voice as well as he’d have liked. “But it’s somethin’.” He finished with a light shrug, eyes fixed on the table, more than happy to focus on something else. A drink was a must, right now, and he was glad Nadia agreed. “I like the way you think.” He found his grin easily enough, trying to get the bartender’s attention before he glanced at Nadia. “Ya know, I bet you flash him a smile and he’ll be over here in a second flat,” he teased, though there was certainly truth to that. Nadia was gorgeous, and Davey was a guy in a baseball cap. “We’ll be waiting here all night if it’s just me.”
Tumblr media
“Oh, so you’re going for that whole serious business man vibe now are you? I have to say that wasn’t the career path I would have picked for you but...” Nadia paused to give him an appraising glance, a slight nod of her head in approval of his outfit. “I can see it. The baseball cap doesn’t quite fit the mould but I like it. It can be your signature.” Nadia wondered yet again what had brought Davey into this new career when he was clearly still in love with baseball. But she knew better than to push such a heavy subject at that moment. “I’m sure that’s not true, you’re totally underestimating yourself. Besides, I’m nothing special in this crowd.” Nadia protested, but sure enough within a few moments of her stepping up to the counter the bartender was there. “What are you drinking?” Nadia asked him after ordering a drink for herself.

It was obvious that Nadia didn’t want to be in his company, and she was folding her arms and jutting out her lower lip in such a way that it made him all the more frustrated by it. She couldn’t just talk to him like an adult, she had to be childish about it. She wouldn’t even give him a chance to explain anything. Maybe he should give up trying altogether. But that wasn’t what he wanted. What he wanted was his sister back. But all things considered, maybe she’d be better off without him. He’d made plenty of mistakes but the one that was going to put a fissure through this relationship was that his wish had been to become a fey. Even if they were able to reconcile she was going to consider to grow old while he, for all intents and purposes, would remain the same age. And he simply can’t bring himself to put it all into words, to explain even the easiest pieces of the story she doesn’t understand.
Would it be easier just to let her go? Better to let her keep hating him?
“Because you’re my sister,” he stated bluntly. He felt the blows of her words, each one like a punch to the jaw, but he didn’t let the emotion cross the mask of his face. She thought he didn’t care, but all he did was care. All he did was worry about her and their mother. But he didn’t have much of a choice in the matter anymore. “I’ve always cared. That’ll never change, regardless of what you think. But yes, you can take care of yourself - I’d just prefer you did it elsewhere.”
He sets the drink down carefully on the bar top in front of her, an indulgence that certainly is too strong for her but he can’t bring himself to scold her for it because he knows it would only fuel the fire of hatred she sears into him.

Nadia knew she was acting childish and she was sure that Forest would just add that to his many reasons he believed Nadia couldn’t be trusted to look after herself. Oh so conveniently forgetting how she was the one trying to hold their family together when Kevin had all but abandoned them. Sure, she might be acting like a child but he was treating her like one anyway, why should she behave all serious and somber? Besides, the reasons behind her anger were far from childish.
“I was your sister two years ago, Kevin.” Nadia’s emotions were running so high, she didn’t even notice she’d called him by his old name. The name of the brother she’d grown up with. “Where were you then?” Nadia silently asked herself what she wanted from him? What would heal that smarting sense of betrayal seething inside her? An apology wouldn’t do it, Nadia had had enough of empty words. A hollow apology wouldn’t do anything to fix the rift between them.
Nadia considered downing the drink in one go, her arm extended to do just that but after a second’s thought she pushed it away from her instead, making sure to send a glare Kevin’s way while she did so. She didn’t need his judgement on her drinking habits as well. “Sorry.” She said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “If I’d known you were going to be here with the caring big brother bullshit I wouldn’t have bothered coming. But I happen to have friends here, I can’t just ditch them even if my being here is so offensive to you.”
