Q’s & A’s
- SELF PORTRAIT: the reasoning behind putting myself in the film was to add a more personal effect. However it has been noted that it does give it more of a road trip feel and looking towards the camera brings the audience closer to the video. The self portrait was filmed in my small bedroom in Sydney; I set up the camera on the top of a bar fridge move it into the middle of the room (still plugged in), set the esky up against the wall, piled pillows until the height was perfect and then pressed the film button. It took me 20 attempts and some good makeup techniques.
- VOICE OVER: I originally put all the road trip videos together before putting the self portrait video in or any audio. I played the video over and over picking up on at least one aspect of each video which would relate to change or life in general. After that one aspect was written (either one word or a phrase) I linked the multiple aspects together to tell a story about life’s highway. The story is written by myself. Part of my life is writing novels and short stories so that was a way to incorporate another big part of my life. Another point to the voice over was made that it reminded someone of how you talk to yourself or just start to mumble.

Double Exposure No Go
So seeing masking shut down the program multiple times I resorted to just changing the opacity to suit the situation.

Life’s Highway
My major project has been handed in.
Life’s Highway focuses on the twists, turns and changes of life. in my life i’ve spent nearly every weekend on the road travelling. Whether that be to and from Dubbo where majority of my family is or to and from Sydney.
Travelling has been a major part of my life and through time life has changed quite a lot for me, whether that be just moving or things to do with more personal situations.
The whole looking back to the past thing came around due to a few of my friends who can hold grudges for a long time and whilst they live in the past they miss everything that life could give. Even I am guilty of being stuck in the past in regards to changes in my life. I wasn't able to do masking or anything like that due to the fact every time I tried the program died on me.
It’s pretty depressing at the start but according to reviews it does have a motivational part to it.
I’m pretty happy with how it all worked out.

Project Work
So just as an update..
Due to unforeseeable issues with formats of movies I have run out of time to do double exposure on the video. Apparently it was going to be incredibly difficult anyway and the lack of skills accompanied by the lack of time means double exposure is a no go

Dan Mountford
Once again is a photographer who uses double exposure to create fantastic and beautiful images.
There’s a possibility I will probably stick to head and shoulder views rather than full body. But these images are so beautiful I want to see them.

Christoffer Relander
A photographer who uses double exposure and bases majority of them around nature. Working in both black & white and colour.
I will probably stick to head and shoulders and try and capture the beauty of the landscape as well like Relander does.

Taylor Swift - Style
Directed by Kyle Newman
Something similar to what I want to create, but in a more nature aspect and only with the double exposure portrait ideas. Definitely want to create a video piece though. Not sure about time or audio yet (audio is being considered)

Project Planning
So last week we watched a bunch of videos which were quite either depressing or made me feel slightly ill. However we also started to discuss the main project for the course. At this stage I had no idea, it had only been 2 weeks and I was probably just trying to focus on one assignment at a time.
We also had a class based around video editing with premier and I’m hoping to use some of that as well.
However whilst I was in Dubbo traveling over the weekend I saw an image on facebook and remembered seeing something similar elsewhere. In the Taylor Swift music video - Style - she becomes the silhouette with videos of multiple things going on inside the silhouette. Double exposure it’s called.
This weekend I am heading to Bright, Victoria and the colours are meant to be beautiful. So my plan is to make a video of a silhouette me with multiple traveling videos going on inside it. All of it with a voice over by me talking about travel probably, haven’t quite decided that yet
I’ve researched tutorials on how to do it so I’m hoping I’m able to accomplish something similar within the amount of time I have to do it.

My Life In 7 Seconds
My gif submission for CASF1001 Studio Foundation - Situating the Virtual.
I find it a little sad that my life can be almost summarised in 7 seconds of flashing photos/gif. But it also gives me the best display of what I have to cherish in my life, my experiences and my friends and family all influence who I am.
