Lucanis’s Logbook, 4
Nearing Midnight:
- Reading
If I have lost an hour this night, it is only to Rook. But lost is wrong. It is an hour found. An hour more clear than any other.

Picture the first time a Rookanis baby toddles up to Viago, grabs on to his legs, and says, “Tío!”
He is immediately aware that Rook, Lucanis, and Teia are all staring at him with variations of the same expression, an expression that says, “I know you are an emotionally constipated bastard, but if you break this tiny child’s heart, I will murder you.”
He just sighs and says, “Yes, hello. Apparently I am your tío. Word of advice for you: never offer to train a random child you meet on the street.”
And the baby laughs.

I get so annoyed with posts that ignore that Bellara is also out there feeding these people. Like Lucanis shows up and discovers that BELLARA is the only one who understands what food is. Stop lumping her in with Fried Fish and Burned Coffee Gallus and Culinary Abominations Harding. Show this woman some respect! She was holding the line.

~years later....
so @noctiscorvus sent me an incredible 'crowlycule' ask detailing out a scene, dialogue and all, and i decided i needed to draw it all credit for the idea and words goes to @noctiscorvus, i just couldn't help myself uwu;
the dagger is a snake and wings, with a mechanism in the handle that allows for poison to be held in it and then dripped out the mouth of the snake into a divot in the blade (idk if that actually would work but it's fantasy lemme have this).
idk why i keep drawing comics i do not understand good panelling i just have ideas i need TO GET OUT OF MY HEAD and sequential panels with drawings with white voids in the background are how i'm doing it lmao
anyway enjoy and i love ask suggestions, this made me so happy haha

Lucanis Dellamorte’s perfect relaxation: Sprawled on top of Rook, head on their chest. In one hand Rook holds the newest book from his favorite romance serial, from which they’re reading aloud. Their other arm is around him, and that hand alternates between stroking his hair and scratching his back.
Man’s completely blissed out. Barely knows his own name. What’s a Talon? He doesn’t know.
(Spite takes over briefly. “I think. You broke him.”
Rook laughs.
No, Lucanis replies blearily in his mind. I think they fixed me.)

The first time Rook holds Lucanis while they lie together on Rook's chaise, he cries. Nothing dramatic, nothing intense. Just tears slowly slipping to dampen the fabric of Rook's shirt beneath his cheek.
Spite—who has only ever felt Lucanis cry under extreme duress, when the torture was too much for him to prevent his body's physiological reaction—begins to squirm and struggle to pull away, and he and Lucanis briefly tussle for control.
"What's wrong?" Rook asks.
"Lucanis! Is! Crying!"
Lucanis hides his embarrassed flush in Rook's shoulder. "I'm fine."
"But? Why?" Spite demands.
Rook strokes Lucanis's hair as they explain. "Sometimes when someone has been in pain or in danger for a long time, they cry when they feel safe again."
The body in their arms relaxes back into the embrace as Spite considers Rook's words. When the spirit replies, his voice is small and wondering.
"Lucanis? Feels? Safe?"
Lucanis's confirmation is a quiet confession: "I do."
They all fall quiet. As the peaceful moment stretches on, Rook and Lucanis begin to doze, leaving Spite to contemplate this amazing new feeling.
Safe.
