Nancy chuckled as Laurent mirrored her relief of seeing another person making their way to the dance at the same time. "It's a relief." she agreed, "we can be united in bad time keeping." The last thing that Nancy wanted was to be walking in completely alone - and having to move around the ballroom looking for her date. "Seven times.." Nancy exclaimed amused at his admission, finding Laurent's nerves endearing. "Laurent, seven must be your lucky number because you look very handsome."
At the mention of the northern lights. Nancy grinned. What a compliment, the young woman had always been transfixed by space, astrology, and the wonders of how the universe came to be. "The Northern Lights-" Nancy gushed, "thank you, Laurent but yes. I might have to chase you up later tonight for the lend of your shoes. "
Nancy witness how Laurent's eyes glimmered when discussing his date, Gideon Prewett. "Amazing, I'm sure you and Gideon will have a great evening, although I might have to steal you from him for a dance." She mused, before faltering slightly at the prospect of her own date. "Yes..sort of. When the ball was announced, I answered one of the blind date requests from Ilvermony. I'm meeting with an American called Victor, but now I sort of wish I had of just gone with friends." More than likely it was just a case of the jitters.
Laurent Borgin was not one to usually worry about his clothing. There was more often than not eleven-million things on his mind at any given point. He certainly never cared when it was one of his parents functions, as they were so meticulously planned Laurent often felt he didn't truly even need to think during them, never mind worry about his clothing. But for the Yule Ball, Laurent had worried. He had worried so much he had changed his robes not once, not twice, but seven different times until he returned to the one he had started with. His dorm was a mess.
"Oh thank Merlin I'm not the last one," Laurent said with a smile once he realized who had approached him. "I thought I was going to walk into the hall only to find the entirety of two schools waiting for me to get my arse in gear only for me to have my trousers unzipped or something." He looked down to the stone below him before looking back up with a sheepish grin on his face. "I changed my suit seven times, Nancy. That's how nervous I am."
He shook his head. "I'm a mess over here and you're over here wearing the northern lights. You look stunning, Miss Cattermole, though how you're balancing in those shoes, I've not a clue."
On the subject of partners for the dance, Laurent could not have stopped the grin that lit up his face if he tried and he nodded, well aware the school likely knew about him and Gideon by now but still pleased beyond all measure to get to mention it. "Yes, Gideon and I are meeting at the ball. I don't think we coordinated suits at all, but well. I'm sure we'll match as well as we always do. What about you? Do you have a date?"

Ronan - that darned cat that Ludo bought with the reasoning of it being a present for Nigel. It was hard to resist any notion of relief that flooded her as soon Ludo revealed that the rip was Ronan’s doing rather than his American Date. Nancy shouldn’t have cared, at least she didn’t think that she cared. Ludo was the father of her child - plain and simple. Sure, they had become close friends due to their proximity to each other but that was it. That was all they could be for Nigel’s sake.
Nancy didn’t think she cared until the topic of Ludo’s yule ball date had arose. Nancy didn’t expect to be his date - not by any means - but there had been the previous privilege of avoiding updates on Ludo’s dating life. When she heard about Ludo’s date - Nancy smiled and asked about her. There was no chance that Nancy was going to allow Ludo to see any inkling of the sinking feeling in her stomach.
Although, as the Yule Ball approached and the prospect of her own date came to light. Nancy was excited, and had helped Ludo with his tie before heading off in a different direction. A glimmer of a blush masked by the lighting crept onto her face as Ludo complimented her. “Thank you, Ludo.” Nancy acknowledged, grateful. “You look very handsome, and surprisingly festive.”
“Ronan can be a little devil when he wants to be.” Nancy breathed a laugh, taking a step closer to Ludo. Her hand reaching for his tie, toying with the material for a few seconds. After a quick examination of the damage, Nancy hummed. “It’s an easy fix,” She expressed as she reached for her wand. Tapping his tie with the wand gently, muttering a quick spell under her breath.
“It’s been a lovely night,” Nancy agreed, the joy of the festivities had rubbed off on Nancy and with a few dances with her friends and a couple of drinks, it felt like a much-needed break. “Captain America?” Nancy questioned, tilting her head before realisation dawned on her. “Oh! My date,” Nancy laughed, “A complete bore. He didn’t see the point in astrology, can you believe it? I ditched him not long after that. How has your evening been? Any luck with your date?”
he'd left for just a few moments because, well, to be fair, ronan was a bit of a brat. he likes his meals at very particular times - once at 9:18 in the morning, and once again, at 10: 18 at night. he preferred his food wet, with a half a cup of water beside his bowl - ludo guesses his mouth gets dry, that's the reason why. he likes to be watched - appreciated? adored? idolized? ludo doesn't know, doesn't care, why; he's just a stupid cat. but it's been that way since he'd gotten ronan for nigel as a gift only a few months before for his first birthday. routine, at this point really. if he hadn't gotten it so young, he might've thought it was a person in disguise.
only, ludo didn't so much have the time to sit and watch a kitten eat it's food. there were people waiting - mainly, nancy, he hoped - and ronan had only been keeping him. instead, he rushed the feline by attempting to pick him up too early from his meal and the black kitten hisses with displeasure, writhing around in his light grip. the kitten's claw had caught onto his tie and pulled the whole thing apart - leaving a bit of a tear in it, as well.
when he finally does make his way back downstairs after begrudgingly giving in and finishing watching ronan eat his meal, the quidditch player was able to make his way back downstairs, only to run into - "nancy," he grins, instantly feeling better - he'd no idea where his date had gone in his absence, though truly he doesn't care. he takes another moment to appreciate the woman in her dress, a sight truly too beautiful for words. "have i told you how beautiful you look?" he asked sincerely with confusion, unsure.
"oh, this old thing? pfft," he scoffs with a wave of his hand, rocking on his heels for a moment as he runs his tongue along the inside of his bottom lip. "you know ronan. always the drama queen." he assures her, flipping the fabric of his tie for reassurance. "er, i dunno. you could try. it's a bit torn up, as well." he shrugs, poking his finger through one of the holes. "are you uh...enjoying the evening? where's captain america?" he asks, looking behind her.

who : charity burbage ( @bxrbxge )
Where: outside the great hall
Nancy glanced at the dance floor as her date sauntered around the floor with another. She should have known better than to answer one of the columns in the Hogwarts Howl, that made matches between students of the two schools for the evening. The evening had started swimmingly, shy smiles, engaging conversation. Until Nancy asked for his star sign, and to Nancy’s dismay he tutted before expressing that although he didn’t find merit in Astrology, he was a Leo. A record scratch instantly played in her head, it was doomed.
Not long after, Nancy headed out in the corridor for some air and hopefully some company.
Her wishes were granted as she set sights on Charity Burbage. A dear friend, the Burbage’s and Cattermole’s were raised in a tight-knit proximity. Nancy considered Charity more as a sister than a friend. “Charity-“ Nancy approached her friend, a smile on her face. Aware that her night was going to be far more entertaining. “You look beautiful.” She expressed, “would you fancy being my date for the rest of the evening, mine was dreadfully boring.”

Who : @laurentborgiin
Where : heading from the Ravenclaw common room to the great hall
Nancy hadn’t left herself enough time to properly get ready for the occasion, she had spent too much time in the common room, writing letter to Ludo’s parents, just to check up. Even though Nancy would be leaving for the official holidays, she still had wanted to ensure that everything was ok, that things were running smoothly. By the time in which Nancy checked her watch, it was 5 in the evening not nearly enough time to get ready at a leisurely pace.
With her hair was charmed into place, the double check that all her accessories were on, and the dress zipped, Nancy was finally ready. Heading down the stairwells from Ravenclaw at quite a quick pace, Nancy barely noticed a fellow housemate in front of her until she was seconds away from bumping into them. “Laurent,” she greeted. Slightly flustered. “Glad to know I’m not the only one running slightly behind.” Nancy laughed breathily. “You look very dashing, are you meeting anybody in the Great Hall?”

who : Bellatrix Black ( @bellaaegis)
Where : the great hall
Levitating in the air was a pair of ballroom shoes, high above the hoards of people. With only a few noticing their presence, those select few included Nancy, Bellatrix and the poor boy from eighth year who was in an unknown duel with Bellatrix Black. The young man’s wand was fighting a loosing battle against the older woman, and Nancy’s eyes narrowed as Bellatrix seemed to be chuckling to herself.
Typically Nancy was unwilling to cause any form of conflict or intervene in any bickering not to do with her. Somehow, Nancy found it difficult to walk away from this situation. Nancy walked past Bellatrix, intentionally bumping their shoulders together. Hopeful that it distracted the other woman from her enchantment. “Oh, I am sorry.” Her tone, a feigned surprised. “It’s just so busy. I didn’t seem to be looking where I was going.”

who : ludo bagman ( @ludobxmxn)
where : the doorway of the great hall
Nancy had ditched her date, and finally things were beginning to look up in the evening. After much time spent with dear Charity. Nancy was about to call it a night, it was only ten-thirty in the evening. So Nancy’s appearance at the ball was somewhat cut short. It wasn’t as though she had imagined dancing until the sun rose, but the young woman had expected somebody slightly entertaining.
The only topics her date seemed well versed in was ancient runes and the inner workings of the wizarding postal service, two hobbies that Nancy feigned interest in for the first hour. Only to find that he did not share the same level of tolerance as dashed her belief in astrology within a mere few seconds. That was the final straw. Nancy was moments away from telling him where to shove his post, but instead settled for a “let’s spend the rest of our evening apart.” That was slightly sweeter.
Nancy had almost escaped the Great Hall when she came face to face with Ludo. “Oh,” Nancy expressed, shocked.
Someone Nancy hadn’t set eyes on from the beginning of the night, and opted to avoid incase any of any awkward encounters with her date. She didn’t want Ludo to have to awkwardly stumble over the fact that she was the mother of his child in-front of a woman that he had only just met. Her eyes falling to the tie around his neck, that hung loose at either side of his shirt. Nancy tried to push down any glimmer of jealousy that may have risen to the surface at the implication, returning to the great hall disheveled could mean that his date was going particularly well. A factor that Nancy tried to tell herself was none of her business, and that as co-parents, she shouldn’t care about.
“Merlin, Ludo.” Nancy chuckled, “what happened to your tie?” Should she ask? Especially, if the answer could send her to bed with a worry that Nigel could have a sibling in another nine months? “Do you need me to fix it? Or is it too late in the evening for that.”

It was hard - to be away from Nigel. Especially as Christmas approached, she was jealous of all the older students who could live off campus. If Nancy had that option, Nigel would be with her. They wouldn't have to be relying on Nancy or Ludo's parents. They wouldn't be missing the big moments. At Ludo sitting down beside her, Nancy scooted to the side a tad to give him more room. A smile on her face at the revelation that they would get there to be there for his first haircut. "Thanks, Ludo." She appreciated those gestures. "What did he dress up as for Halloween this year, did your mum mention?"
"I'm good - better than when I first came back," She reassured. Leaning into his touch instinctively. A small pang of guilt in her chest at the mention of Nigel singing for her all day. Other students their age didn't quite understand, but she was reassured knowing that Ludo felt the same. "This time of year - these are the moments you don't really want to miss." Nancy nodded. "How have you been, Ludo?"
"oh, sure, sure, we'll get him loads..." ludo mumbles off as he re-reads the letter, setting himself down beside the other without an invitation. "move over, mate," he grumbles to the boy beside them, squeezing himself in. "i told mum to save his hair for when we're home, so we could be there when it's cut for the first time." he knew small things like this would please nancy; and despite them not being together, ludo liked keeping nancy happy. it's what he would want from her, too. nigel's childhood was a partnership, he wants them both to revel in it.
"she's told me he sings mummy all day long," he adds in afterthought, smiling back at the toddler in the photos as he waves. "you doin' alright?" ludo asks, a hand coming up to rest on her shoulder in support. "i miss him, too."

who : severus snape @amouretoile
where : the potions storeroom.
Spending so much time out in the courtyard yesterday had been a mistake, Nancy had woken up with a headache and her sinuses were blocked. Such an infliction had made her day filled with back to back classes almost intolerable. As the evening progressed, Nancy felt herself become even more irritated, and tired. After forcing down a bowl of warm broth at the Great Hall, Nancy had reached the end of her tether with the sluggish feeling that had overtook her. Her first stop was the hospital wing, where any hopes of a cure were dashed by Madame Pompfrey's announcement that every batch of pepper-up potion had been distributed. Nancy was turned back, with a soft smile and an instruction to return in the morning.
Not willing to go down without a fight, Nancy made her way to the potions storeroom, determined to find the ingredients for a simple pepper-up potion and muster one up quickly. A torch light illuminated from her wand, Nancy was searching for the last ingredient, Mandrake Root. Creak, the sound of the doorway startled her and made her turn with haste. A sense of relief washing over her upon the realisation that it was another student. "Thank Merlin," Nancy breathed, setting the ingredients back down on the table.
"You don't happen to know where the Mandrake Root is? The Hospital Wing has ran out of pepper-up potion."

who : @blackestrose
where : the courtyard
Nancy was meant for the sun, the cold had never been her friend. There was nothing pleasant about numb fingertips, runny noses or chapped lips. As soon as winter dawned, Nancy longed for summer. The bright mornings were more pleasant, and she tended to be more productive. But one aspect of the winter, Nancy enjoyed was the darker nights. It gave her more of an opportunity to star-gaze, one of Nancy's favourite past times. Astronomy was her strongest subject. Nancy didn't care that it wasn't the best course of study for career security, Astronomy made the world turn - quite literally.
Nancy was out in the courtyard, bundled up in a coat. An astronomy book resting on her lap as she gazed up at the sky. She was just about to head inside and sneak to the kitchens for a warm tea - when a bright light passed overhead. A small gasp escaping her lips. Nancy was pleased to see someone passing through the courtyard - somebody to express her excitement with. "Did you see that? There was a shooting star."

who : @valeriaeavan
where: the library
Eavan was an unlikely friend but Nancy's dearest, they had bonded a few years ago after being paired together in a charms lesson. Eavan had been her rock for the past year, helping Nancy get back into the swing of things after her pregnancy with Nigel. It had took the pair a full year to get her caught up, but now they were in the full swing of things.
Still though, Nancy enjoyed their weekly meetings in the library. Most of the time, it was a chance to have a catch up, discuss what they had heard through the week. Nancy always did love a good chinwag. "Well, Miss Burke." Nancy greeted, setting her books down on the table. Scraping her hair back into a ponytail before sitting down. "What has been going on in your universe?"

Her head in a copy of The Daily Prophet and half a mouthful of cereal - Nancy raised her head in confusion as she heard her name be called from a distance. Her confusion disappeared upon the realisation that it was Ludo, the father of her baby. A glimmer of amusement as Ludo passed her by before backpedaling back to in front of her. Swallowing her cereal as he sat down in front of her.
"Morning, Ludo." Nancy greeted, folding the copy of the paper. It was better not reading the Daily Prophet these days, so Nancy stuck to the horoscopes. She might not be able to predict the future through politics, but a daily star reading made things a bit simpler. As Ludo placed the letter on the table, Nancy leaned towards Ludo, peeking over the letter herself. A beaming grin on her face. "He's going to be a Quidditch star," Nancy agreed. "Perhaps, one of us should get him a toy Quaffle for Christmas. A soft one of course..."
Nancy was all set to go home this holiday season. Not having been apart from the boy at the holidays since he was born. At the mention of poo, Nancy grimaced. "That's not pleasant." Nancy was sure the Bagman's had the situation under control but she still longed to be with him. "His hair is getting so long.." She couldn't help but gush as she caught a glimpse at the photos.

where: the great hall who: nancy cattermole @nancycattermole when: breakfast time
ludo rushes in during the middle of breakfast - having slept in and missed most of it - with a piece of parchment clutched between his fingers as he scurries through the tables. "nancy!" he calls among the heads of students, running down the length of the ravenclaw table, missing the mother of his child completely before he backpedals towards her. "nancy!" he calls again, stopping in front of her and sliding into the bench beside her. "hey, hey!" he smiles in greeting, flattening out the parchment on the table to reveal his mothers careful, small calligraphy. "look, look at this. mum says he's throwing balls," he beams in excitement, remembering (just slightly) the days when he was first learning to do so. despite the fact that this was a perfectly normal milestone for nigels young age of fourteen months, ludo was certain it was related to a love of quidditch. "he's just like me," he smiles, reading over the letter again. "also he's woken up in his own poo a few times this week, so he's got a rash." he adds as an afterthought, looking down at the a few of the attached photos with admiration.

BIOGRAPHY
David and Abigail Cattermole truly believed that the world became a brighter place when Nancy was born. Their eldest son, Reginald was their pride and joy, but Nancy? Nancy was their light. David and Abigail were older parents and having spent many years hoping for children, now that they were blessed with two, the Cattermole family was complete.
Reginald was a quiet boy, finding it a lot harder to come out of his shell in comparison with his younger sister, Nancy. Despite the two year age difference, as they grew older, Nancy found a way to push Reginald out of his comfort zone. She reassured him by taking his hand at a family function, or inviting him to play with their cousins. Nancy never struggled with socialising, finding immense comfort in the company of other people. A fond lover of storybooks, Nancy found herself looking at conversations like stories, each moment adding to the progression of the next chapter. Every new person as a new character.
While other parents may have snuffed out this spark, Nancy's parents elevated it. Supporting Nancy's creativity throughout her childhood. Academically, Nancy didn't hold much promise, but her curiosity was endless. Her love for novels, art, and music progressed over the years. Nancy found herself constantly seeking more, more depth, more meaning. More understanding of the world at her fingertips. It was this curiosity that saw her get sorted into Ravenclaw upon her arrival at Hogwarts.
Nancy fell into Hogwarts life easily, coasting through in her classes with average scores. But in Astronomy? Nancy's desperation to learn more about the world benefitted her, and her passion for Astrology was uncovered. The rest of the time? Hogwarts was a hoot. Parties, friends, and music. As the years progressed, Nancy found her heart in the people that she met at Hogwarts. Maybe too much heart, as in her seventh year, Nancy fell pregnant after a one night stand with Ludo Bagman.
Nancy liked Ludo, but they were nowhere near responsible enough to have a baby. They weren't even dating. So far, Nancy had lived only for herself, for what she enjoyed and what benefitted her. Her head was in the clouds, and with the positive result. She got pulled straight back down into reality. How was she supposed to tell her parents? Reginald? How was she supposed to raise a baby?
Her parents were disappointed, but eventually supportive. Reginald was angry, mainly with Ludo, but eventually upon Nigel's birth, he had came around. Nancy was filled with nerves and uncertainty for the duration of the pregnancy, mixed with the pressure of keeping up with school. All of that seemed to fade away when Nigel was born. The world seemed to have changed, and suddenly Nancy understood her parent's anecdotes of the world getting a little bit brighter when she was born. Nigel did that for Nancy.
Nancy was besotted with her son, and for the months following his birth, Nigel was her moon, sun, and stars. The pain of leaving him upon her return to Hogwarts was almost unbearable. Nancy felt numb for the first couple of weeks of being back at the castle, her only crutch the letters from Ludo and photographs. Nancy, while loving her son, felt a slight loss of identity, unable to establish between being Nigel's mother - and Nancy, the fun loving young woman. By the time Christmas rolled around, and Nancy reunited with Nigel for his first holiday season. Nancy felt that the balance between being a young mother and a young woman had been restored, the two identities didn't need to be separate, they could coincide in harmony.
Entering into her ninth year with Ludo also returning to Hogwarts. Nancy can't help but fret about Nigel. While she has full trust in both sets of grandparents, Nancy feels a sense of resentment about missing so many moments. Especially as the political climate becomes more treacherous, Nancy feels she can no longer live in her ignorance that everything is rosy.
