Project 2 - Green Walkway
Tumblr media
The lack of greenery in the current landscape provide little natural shade and does not contribute to the aesthetically pleasing waterfront view. Planting more trees or shrubs surrounding the area with more seatings provide a breezy, welcoming walkway that connects audiences to eat street (and to other ‘landmarks’) Having pop-up cafes, snack vendors, cool drinks within repurposed shipping containers ties in with Northshore’s industrial history whilst providing audiences with activities that they can do with friends and families in the morning. Seasonal changes provide the walkway a different ‘look’, giving audiences incentive to return all year round.

Project 1 - Using Deck as Waterfront Industrial Breakfast Cafe
Tumblr media
Taking this picture as an inspiration for exterior or location of the waterfront breakfast cafe. Reuse of shipping containers to connect this destination to its history and aesthetically pleasing with the shipping containers used for Eat Street location. The concrete walkway is decorated with trees to provide natural shade and seats alongside the waterfront, creating an engaging path that ultimately connects multiple destinations.

Week 2 Site Visit
Tumblr media
The client mentions the importance of the site history and hopes future projects pay homage to the industrial elements of the wharf. Make use of shipping containers and the open spaces to connect all destinations ( or ‘landmarks’) together in one cohesive community space. There are no shade (both manmade and natural) along the waterfront, the only available shade is the Deck information centre and old warehouse. Destinations are disconnected and needs engaging spaces to add ‘social characters’ to Northshore. The activation space is geared towards audiences with a log of leisure time - a place to visit with friends (or families) for casual meet-ups or solo relaxation times. Prioritise people and social experiences in an outdoor-setting.

Week 1 Lecture Reflection
Tumblr media
The concept of Place Making and creative place making was introduced as the foundation of KKB285. Place making explains the importance of shaping the public realm to not only maximise shared values but also create social cohesion  amongst urbanised communities (or cities). Holistic approach of place making comprises of the Perceived, the Conceived and the Lived experience. All of which contribute to human and spatial relationships. Creative place making shapes physical and social character of spaces that animates and rejuvenate surrounding communities. This is important in urbanised cities as it produce  a sense of belonging that ultimately connects people together.
