I dont make things to change the world. I make things to change that one person's world.

I work as a cashier and I make small origami butterflies as a fidget for myself. I then hand them out to the customers at work and so many of them will tell me how this small paper butterfly changed their day/week/month. I get customers who come back to visit the store because I once gave them a butterfly. I have overheard people excitedly tell their friends/partners about 'Thats the cashier that makes the butterflies.' I also get the people who excitedly come back and tell me about what they have done with butterflies I have given them. They've been tacked to walls, set on dashboards, stolen by their kids, become cat toys, or one customers son slowly stole all of them from his mom and kept them as a little dragon hoard in his room.

So yea. I'm not a "successful" artist. I don't get money from what I make often. And no im not changing the world with what im making. But I have changed that one person's world even if for only 5 minutes. And that's all I truly want to do with my art.

yknow theres a lot of pressure to be successful, particularly on artsy kids whose professions are seen as useless unless theyre famous, but life is fucking hard and sometimes things dont turn out

but i think thats not bad. my dad has wanted to be a musician forever, and hes rly pretty good. but then he joined the military to get away from an abusive family, and then he got married, and then he got divorced, and a lot of horrible shit HAPPENED. he has ptsd and severe anxiety and he could never really get back on the horse. and he never made it as a musician, and now hes 53

but i grew up in a house full of instruments, and he can play all of them, and some of my earliest memories are of him playing guitar on the front porch and me thinking there wasnt a better musician in the world. so. even if you dont get to the stars, exactly, what you do isnt worthless. its not a waste of time if life is difficult and you cant make it, or if you arent famous, or if your work doesn’t influence thousands of people. it will influence someone

there are a million ways to be happy and a million ways to be a successful artist. we create what we do to enhance the human experience and relate to each other and improve ourselves. theres something to be said for just doing that,,,for the sake of doing it, yknow

The box for my tarot deck got a bit messed up while I was working a festival this spring so I made it a tarot bag last night... the coloring on the front isn't done but if people would be interested reach out and I can probably do a few customs.
