The Holy Grail War that happened on this land has ended. The Greater Grail collapsed, and the curtain has fallen on everything. As I ran about dealing with the Mage’s Association for its aftermath, I waited for Sakura to recover. And now, I’m walking together with Sakura. As if we were trying to regain the eleven years we lost. I walk together with Sakura in the time that has started moving.
Watching Anno Hideaki:The Final Challenge of Evangelion, a documentary on the making of Evangelion 3.0+1.0 and it is a fascinating look into the creative process of an animation studio. I’m actually surprised it was allowed to come out. There is so much moments of the crew just totally demoralized by Hideaki Anno’s leadership. Anno just cannot communicate what he actually wants, so he tries to delegate to the crew but they are constantly at a loss as to what he wants. How his decisions are difficult to comprehend and how work is just thrown out at a moments notice. It is a must watch for context to Evangelion 3.0+1.0. as well as just creative studio work in general. It brilliantly casts a light on “auteur theory” and why it is bad for creative groups. Great cameos by legendary creatives like Toshio Suzuki and Hayao Miyazaki.
Hey guys, just wanted to wish you all a happy Evangelion day. I’m going to go watch 3.0+1.0 again, and see about doing a video with some thoughts and reactions.
