God Damn! That was a great post. We will definitely work on narrowing the advocate part since I am also worried about that part. We have an amazing team with Frank and i know we are going to do an amazing good.
The dates and times described above are exactly what Frank and I were thinking. This proves that we are on the same page.
#Week 13: Wrapping Up The Film-Creating a Plan of Action
A. What days and times will you commit to the project?
The days that I will commit to the project are when I am not in school and I have free time (either on my hour breaks between classes or when I’m off of school). I will be using my time wisely when it comes to this project, and I will not waste anytime. I will dedicate my time to do my part as best as I can.
B. What days/times are you working as a group and when will you work alone?
As a group, we started off meeting Fridays around 10a.m. on the second floor of the library. We have messaged each other throughout the weeks, making sure we are collaborating the ideas correctly and gathering the information correctly. Throughout these next weeks we are planning on meeting Mondays and Wednesdays to start piecing together the video and as stated in part A, during the available time that I have I will be working on certain parts of the project.
C. Specifically, what aspect of the project will you address on each of those days?
The aspects that we will be covering during the days we meet is finalizing the video and putting all of our research together exactly where it fits. We will gather every piece of information that is needed and make sure that it’s detailed and relevant to the issue. We will also be working on the music that we will be using throughout the video and looking for great pictures to use as well. Other than that, as a group we are good to go and making sure we meet every requirement given.
D. Specifically, what will you do to complete those aspects of the project?
The things that I will be doing to complete the project, is doing my part and dedicating the time that I have available to conduct individual research. I will do my best to collaborate with my team and share any ideas that we might be able to use.
E. What specific aspects of the assignments are you most concerned about? What can you do to address those concerns?
The aspects that I’m concerned about would be the ability to make sure that each idea and supporting evidence we present isn’t broad, but narrowed and correlates to the message my group is trying to get across. Another concern is not having enough detailed information or going in depth for each point we are covering. We could fix this, by making sure the information that is used is detailed and meets the professor’s feedback.
F. What specific aspects of the assignment are you most comfortable with? Why?
I am most comfortable with the collaboration of ideas for this video project, only because I feel like as a team, we have enough good and liable explanations to include in our video. The interviewees that were interviewed gave each of us excellent answers and we can use them in our video. Each of us brought good ideas to the table and we just need to put them were they fit best in the puzzle.

Wrapping up the Film: Creating a plan of Action
1.A) I will be committed to the group project on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
B) On Tuesday and Thursday I will be working on the project after my classes so around 2:00pm for two hours. On Fridays my group will meet to discuss our advancements, problems, and we will be putting the video together. Fridays we will meet around 4 when I get off of work.
C) On Tuesday I will be addressing the claim portion of the video. This part describes the issue and the reasons why it has not been solved. This is extremely important since the problem can only be solved if the reasons behind it are known and can be overcome.
D) I will be rereading and incorporating several aspects of my literature review into the video. I will also re-interview my primary source to include in the video. My primary source will give first hand experiences and will give credibility to our video.
E) I am most concerned about the advocate part of the project. It is hard to convince people to make a change, especially when the problem is embedded into our community. Diversity is extremely difficult to achieve even in the work place. And even more so when racial discrimination and other problems constantly arise. As a group, we are thinking about different, creative way to involve students, of all races, into the medical environment.
F) I am most comfortable with the support part of the project since all of our research creates a solid background and supports all of our claims. We have almost 36 sources were we can use quotes that create the fundamentals of our video.

Your post was excellent! The ethos was extremely specific which creates credibility for your video. Your video was also inspirational and creates a sense of emotional attachment for the students that are planning on enter the STEM program. I think you should elaborate more on the solution since there are other ways that ca improve diversity in STEM jobs.
Week 12: Hispanic Diversity in STEM
PART 1:
Topic: Hispanic Diversity in STEM education
Purpose: To persuade Hispanic students to get involved in STEM education.
Audience: Students from age 13 to 24
Solution: To inform about the opportunities such as scholarships and educational programs for kids to rise the representation for Hispanics in STEM.
PART 2: Purpose
Ethos:
According to Dr. Kendall, she stated that STEM needs to increase its populations in order to begin to address the perceived lack of qualified candidates for high-tech jobs. This will modify and completely give more developed ideas in order to keep growing in solutions for a better society within the years.
“Expanding the interest in STEM fields, as well as diversifying the workforce, starts with exposing Hispanic students to STEM-focused education and careers at earlier ages.” (Hart, A.L., 2014)
“American students must move from the middle to the top of the pack in science and math. The reorganization of STEM programs will not impact investments [contribution] in Hispanic community; rather it will facilitate working with stakeholders across the nation.” (Barack Obama, 2010)
“There has been an increase on not only females but Hispanic impact in the Engineering field as well. This is the first time that The University of Texas at El Paso has such a diversity in the STEM field… Better ideas will come to support technology.” (Kendall, 2016- Personal Communication)
Pathos:
Having the quality and the encouragement to become part of this career is what makes Engineers success. The standards of people actually joining into this career may be a percentage higher to minorities as Hispanics. Having mentioned this, Hispanics are most likely to have different aspects of what an Education is making themselves feel inferior than others by choosing the easiest and the basic education compared to other ethnicities.
youtube
Logos:
Based on Dr. Kendall’s responses, Hispanics are mostly influenced by other person rather than on themselves making them depend always on someone’s opinion. If we start encouraging more Hispanics into the STEM education we are most likely to improve workforces and have a better developed diversity in the STEM field.
Statistics have shown that over the years a low percentage of Hispanics have been increasing in the STEM education making it a less integrated society with different perspectives, ideas and solutions.
Purpose (By Group)
We expect to make more Hispanic students interested about our diverse fields in the STEM education. By letting people know about the opportunity we gain the integration of more students in order to keep progressing in technology and math and science.

Ethnicity Diversity in the Medical Field

Topic: Diversity in the medical field
Purpose: Our purpose is to increase the knowledge of diversity in the medial field and promote awareness of the affects of diversity with the treatment of patients.
Audience: The audience we are focusing on are students who are entering the medical field and medical professionals already in the medical field.
Solution: As a student, they can volunteer at different hospitals to become aware of the different cultures and ethnicities in patients. This will help students understand other cultures and relate to their patients. Administration should also set policies that recommend hiring different ethnicities into the medical professionals to increase diversity.

Ethos: Quotes and interviews from different sources will create reliable information. Different statistics will also be used to introduce the topic and the reasons why we are concerned about the topic.
Pathos: In the video, first hand experiences from patients will help the audience relate to their situation. The music will also create an emotional environment.
Logos: Through interviews with professionals in the field and other medical professionals, we can create a logical video.

This was a great review of what you learned and how this knowledge will be used in the future. Knowing how to do research is extremely important for graduate school, therefore I completely agree that high school research was nothing compared to this literature review and the process we went through to complete it. This assignment was ultimately the building blocks for future research and literature reviews.
Reflecting on our research skills.
What: While being in this class and choosing a semester topic I’ve learned about my field, the proper way to write a literature review, conducting primary research, and looking for scholarly articles. Going into this class I knew the basics about physical therapy such as what they do and the requirements into getting into the program. This class helped me realize the role that diversity brings into the program. I learned the current state of diversity in physical therapy, and the words cultural competence. I had never heard that word before doing the research, but that is important to know because it is a word that will constantly be used for the rest of my life. Before this class I didn’t really know how to do academic research. The only research I knew was lazy high school research the “I’ll just google it and the first thing that comes out I’ll use.” I had heard about all the different resources that the school offers, but I didn’t know how to use them until Professor Cisneros gave clear step by step on how to use them. For primary research I’ve had to interview people for little things in high school, but this class sharpened my skills and thought me now things to conduct a better interview. This class also showed me what goes into a literature review and how it is important to stay unbiased.
So what: What I learned is important because I know what else my career ask for other than the basic requirements they ask for. I’ve also learned the current state of diversity and what is being done to improve it that can benefit me in the future. As for grad school or just the rest of my school I know how to use the school resources to find the information I need and to make my papers stronger with scholarly articles. With the primary research I learned about the schools PT program and how to write unbiased questions for the future. As a citizen of a democratic nation this is important because I have the freedom to use my skill to get information about important topic such as the elections this year.
Now What? I can use my skills from here on out when they are needed in life. Some example I can think of is writing lab reports, interviewing or getting interviewed in the future, and using the sources for further research in the future. Like I stated in the other paragraph I can use my rhetoric skills and research to see what persuasive tactic the presidential candidates are using, and using the sources to get informed.

Reflecting on our research skills
WHAT: I learned a lot of information pertaining to my topic and the how to create a literature review. A literature review should not have any biases and should only describe and state past studies on the topic. Researching for my paper took a lot of time and was very time consuming. Finding, reading and comprehending the scholarly articles was interesting and I learned a lot of new information on diversity. The factors that influence diversity and affects that hinder the advancement of diversity is extremely complex. The primary research is where I was able to put all information into perspective and finally be able to make my own conclusions on diversity.
SO WHAT: This literature review and the entire experience is extremely useful for future classes. As a college and research student and future medical professional, I know more about diversity and the obstacles I would need to overcome to treat patients more efficiently and have a better understanding of different cultures. Research is also important for professional research and especially for a graduate degree. I now have experience and I know the process to take when doing a research report.
NOW WHAT: Now that I know the effects on diversity in the medical field, I will be more active towards this issue and try to advocate the problem on diversity. All medical institutions have this dilemma, therefore, bringing my knowledge to administration would be a start to addressing this problem. I will also put the knowledge of researching a topic when I being my masters and maybe a Ph. D. degree in the future. I will be able to research primary sources and gain first hand experiences from that.

Great job on your post! It is difficult to distinguish the difference between long quotations and short quotations since they contain different requirements. However, I know our quotations should not be longer than 4 lines. Your post also helped me write my thesis statement. I believe I am prepared to write this section of the paper.
Introduction and In-Text Citation
I will begin with the introduction, An introduction goes after the abstract page. To have a good introduction you must make sure it introduces your topic and ends in a thesis statement. An introduction is usually more than half a page but less than a whole page. I found this valuable introduction in our RWS Ebook in page: 226
The thesis statement basically tells the reader what it is that the paper will focus on in one or two sentences. This information was also found in page 226 in the RWS eBook.
For the literature Review you body text must be in APA Format, you can get guidance in the UWC by clicking under Useful Web links in our class shell and clicking the writing center.

You can submit your work via email or go straight to the writing center. As you can see they can definitely help!

You can also find instructions and help in Perdueowl.com also found in Useful Web links.
Now I will explain how to successfully add In-Text Citations. Make sure the quotes you choose do not exceed three lines. This is very important because once there is more quote lines than your own words it is no longer your work but the sources author and that’s not the point right? Ok so now that you’ve made sure you got good quotes! You Introduce your quote to your audience because your audience does not know what the article was about, then you insert your quote and you finish by explaining it very well. Make sure it all makes sense to keep your writing very flooooowyy ! You must add the author and year the work was published for t to be APA style. The pictures below explain exactly how to do it and easy for you it is already explained in APA style! I hope his helped.
You’re welcome!!

PIECING TOGETHER THE LITERATURE REVIEW
Since I was in group #1, I researched how to do a title page, abstract and reference sheet. If you still don’t know how to complete this section of the paper then just take a look at this post.
So I started by going trough the material given to us on blackboard to guide us through this paper.
And the guidelines of the title page and abstract where found here. The format is APA and the requirements are stated below.
Additional information was included for each section. This includes the requirement information that should be put on the cover page and abstract limitation.
Next I went to the RWS Handbook to gather further information on these sections. I found this information on page 230-231 for the cover page and page 37 for the reference page.
Finally here are some examples if you still don’t understand how to do this section. This youtube video will help you step by step.

I hope this helped!!

Documenting your interview preparation
I began this long process by writing my email to my professional in the topic. I knew Dr. Schoen would be extremely valuable to my essay and would provide an insight into diversity in the medical field.
Then, I saved the interview release to my dropbox.
And I continued on to saving the interview confirmation to my dropbox.
Afterwards, I reviewed my questions and quotes that I would ask my interviewee. I knew I had to perfect these questions to gain the information I needed for my essay.
Finally I obtained all of the supplies I needed for the interview.

Time to relax!!!!!!

Great job on your interview choices. They all related to your topic and would provide incredible insight and information that will improve the credibility of your essay.
Academic Stalking
Leave no stone unturned.
My major: Materials and Metallurgical Engineering
My college: Engineering
My departments: Metallurgical and Materials Engineering
Contact info: MME
Advising info: MME
although this advising information is not certainly clear, I feel as if this department should have included an interactive system to advise some students. The only information that I could make sense from this sheet would only have to be the kind of programs that they offer to undergraduates. the only source that I could find that is relevant to advising is the degree plan, I would not necessarily count this as advising because it only informs the student of the classes included in the major.
Now that I’m on the hunt to find potential scholars and professional to suit the needs of my intended research, I coincidentally stumbled on the people tab that was included in the home page of my major. I was skeptical to find out the kinds of individuals that are potentially able to have an interview with. the professionals did a good job of providing all the contact info that I needed as well as a summary of what they do.
I chose Thomas Boland because he is a professor that primarily focuses on the biomedical branch of MME as well as making contributions with inkjet 3D printing and the biological use for it. Other than the notable aspects of the research, his background ties into working with many different types of racial diversity. he has thought many graduate courses where a great number of mostly diverse groups have come together to collaborate in research. I hope to learn more in depth about how having a racially diverse environment in graduate research can provide significant contributions to the world of engineering.
I chose Heidi A. Taboada Jimenez because she is an associate professor who currently focuses in methods of using evolutionary algorithms to applied industrial and systems engineering. However in one of her presentations she speaks about an initiative to increase research and education in sustainability engineering. This fits my own research purpose because I hope to learn more in depth about how a racially diverse community can maintain the sustainability for some specific fields of engineering education.
I chose Virgilio Gonzalez because he is a clinical associate professor and his primary focus is engineering education, However on of his noticeable presentations is one that speaks about successful collaboration between engineering and education. This fits my own research because I hope to learn more about the approach to making the engineering education community be able to be sustainable with many racially diverse minorities who contribute to finding an academic career.
All’s well that ends well.

Searching for an interviewee
My major: Bachelors of Science in Nursing
My College: School of Nursing
Department: Nursing
Contact Information
Advising Center
I began to search for a suitable interviewee that relates to my project and provides more insight to my research topic.
Dr. Olvera is an associate professor and director of research at the University of Texas at El Paso in the nursing department. I believe he will provide great insight on health disparities and the many causes due to a lack of diversity in the medical field. He can provide knowledgeable research on the consequences of diversity and the impact on patients and the medical environment.
Dr. Schoen works at UTEP in the department of rehabilitation counseling. She specializes in issues of diversity and the factors that influence employment rates at hospitals. Dr. Schoen would be extremely informative towards my research topic and may provide details on my definition and consequences section.
Dr. O’Connor works at UTEP in the departments of health science and nursing. She has studied health disparities and could provide important information on diversity are its effects in the medical field.
Now it is time to sleep.

Great job on your Tumblr post. I think your research questions were good since they matched your research topic. None of the questions were biased; however, I would reword your question of value to make it a broader conversation. I think your strongest questions are 1, 3, 5, and 6. These questions can be elaborated on and researched further, to create a well written research paper.
Molding Researchable Research Questions
Here are my research questions.

After I came up with my research questions, I visited the UWC and met with a consultant.

I revised my questions, got rid of the biases and revised some grammar errors that my consultant pointed out.

1.What is gender diversity? This question belongs to question of definition.
2. Is there gender diversity in the medical field? This question belongs to question of fact.
3. How can we expand gender diversity in the medical field? This question belongs to question of interpretation.
4. If there was gender diversity in the medical field, what would that cause? This question belongs to question of consequence.
5. Should there be a balance in gender diversification in medical field? This question belongs to question of value.
6. How should women and men be interviewed and accepted into medical school without being biased? This question belongs to question of policy.
Reflection: When visiting the University Writing Center, I met with a consultant to review my research questions. The feedback I received was very useful because my consultant helped me out on how to re-word some of my questions since some of them were biased. I saw my questions from her perspective and realized that I was being biased when I thought I wasn’t. The consultant told me that I should be looking at both sides of the topic and not just one. I felt that my experience at the writing center was a great one because without the help, I would have been doomed. Now I know I am going to get a better grade thanks to the consultant’s advice.

Molding Researchable Research Questions
I began my research questions eagerly.
After finishing my questions, I proceeded to the writing center.

I revised my questions to fix grammar errors, biases and elaborated more on several questions.
The feedback I received at the writing center was extremely useful and insightful. My tutor gain me a different perspective on my topic and was able to tell me if my questions were biased or not. She stated the repetition in my question and answers. Other than restating the question, I needed to elaborate more and describe in detail what I wanted to gain from each question. Overall it was a great experience and I truly think the writing center helps students improve on their writing and help them receive a higher score.
