final evaluation
For this theme I have learnt a lot of useful new things which have helped to grow my knowledge and understanding of fashion techniques such as draping, how to make frills and all together how to make a clothing item, this theme has also taught me thing that I did not know beforehand such as constellations, astrology and how it relates to religion and science. For the m.a.r.s aspect I explored it by mainly researching about science and religion, I used math's when making the dress to measure everything and the art is the embroidered designs I made. I personally found fashion roughs to be the most effective towards my final piece as they helped me to have an understanding of where to place all the detailing on my dress and I also found them to be a creative exercise as I got to explore with lots of different designs, pattern and dress shapes. The least effective towards my final piece was possibly painting as I did not use it, but it was still enjoyable to do when had to. I found draping to be effective as it was time saving and flexible so if something didn’t turn out right in the end you could always change it without changing the whole design. I didn’t find 3D popups to be helpful towards my final piece as they were not used.
For my 4D video skill I used tiktok as I was unable to do a time-lapse as I had already made the dress by the time of needing to film the process. For my tiktok I added the process of my dress from photos that I had taken into little snippets and at the end I filmed a 360 of the dress. For my dress I wanted to create a simple dress design but then add a lot of coloured detailing to add colour to a simple white side. My dress relates to the theme as I used math's for the measurements of the dress, art for all the detailing and embroidery, science and religion is all in the astrology section. When I decided that I wanted to add frills/ruffles that was a challenge to me as I had never made something like this before, to overcome this challenge I watched several videos on how to make them and made lots of practice ones until I became confident with it. If I had the opportunity to recreate this dress, I would probably make a more fitted to the skin dress and add lots of darts and add texture to it. I also think that oi would make the dress longer and maybe add a fancy style to it with a slit or a wrap dress. In the future I think I will probably plan the design better and start earlier on so I have more time but overall, the embroidery took the longest to do but it was worth it.

4x artist research   Elsa Schiaparelli - astrology on clothes Emma McNally - astrology Celeste Mogador - Embroidery   Martin Tremblay – black and white inspired
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For my final piece I found four artists that inspired me, the first person that I was inspired by was Elsa Schiaparelli. For my design I wanted to add some astrology as it is relevant to the theme and I also find it interesting. Elsa created for her autumn/winter collection in 1938 a velvet zodiac jacket. I was really inspired by this as I like how on the jacket, she included the zodiac star signs and how she had embroidered stars, planets and the moon onto it. Continuing the astrology theme another artist that inspired me was Emma McNally's constellations work as I fine her night sky star mapping very interesting, and it inspired me to add lots of stars and a constellation star sign to my work. Another artist that I found to be helpful towards my final piece was Celeste Mogador, Celeste inspired me to use embroidery in my work as she has shown that you can be creative with what you create, and you can design it to be however you want. My last artist was Martin Tremblay, I was more inspired than his colour theme than his work, he tends to use lots of black and white in his photograph designs and I like how he displays the model's clothes in funky patters with the black and white colour scheme. I got my idea to use black and white fabrics for my dress from his work.

final design
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
here is my final design, I really like how it turned out as I like how bright and fun coloured it is, my favourite part to my dress is the astrology part at the bottom as it was my favourite part to do. for the order side I draped it on and for the chaos side is is sewn such as the frills. I found this challenging as this was my first time creating a wearable clothing piece. I wanted to create an easy to put on and adjustable piece as it can fit different body shapes better than a tighter fitted dress. I weed to include embroidery in my design as I enjoyed doing it and find it fun to do. my dress is mainly made from recycled materials such as all the black fabric is an old bedsheet and the white frills are made out of an old school shirt. for the final touch I decided to add the topic name m.a.r.s onto the dress as I think that shows great representation of the topic.

step five of creating my dress
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
this part of creating my dress was definitely my favourite part as I really enjoyed seeing all the embroidery come together and I liked picking out the colours for the different image. I had a lot of fun actually creating the embroidery design and the inspiration pictures were very useful. for the embroidery I used a split stitch as I find that this type of stitch is my favourite and I like how it looks.

astrology inspiration photos
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
for these inspiration pictures I was mainly looking at what different colours reflects on different star signs, my star sign sagittarius includes lots of purples, greens and blues which I then decided to use in my design. as you can see I also added different star signs symbols and for those I chose a different colour for each one that represents them based off research.

Inspiration pictures for my astrology embroidery design.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
for my astrology design I want something that represents science and religion, astrology relates to religion as you can use things such as the moon and sun in your design which god had created in the 7 days of creation. Astrology also relates to science as it is to do with space and the earth. for my astrology design I wanted to do something big as I personally love astrology, for the colours I chose to do earthy colours and also colours that relate to my star sign shown in my other set of Inspiration pictures.

step four to creating my dress
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For this step I decided to add 3 buttons to the back each equal lengths from each other, I did this because it adds adjustability to it along side the belt which you can tighten and loosen how ever much you want to, for the shoulder strap you can also adjust that as all you do is tie the two straps together to which ever tightness is comfortable.

step three to creating my dress
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
my next step was to create the waist belt to the dress, for this I had a silk type white fabric that I used which I folded in half a sewed together to make it thicker. I wanted to use black thread along the side as it was also going around the black order side so it would add diversity to it, for the actual embroidery design I did two separate wavy lines overlapping another for one of them I used 6 different shades of blue which were split stitched into each other creating a light to dark design, for the other line I did the exact same thing just with 6 different shades of pink also going from light to dark. I like how this turned out as I like how at one end its light colours and the other end is dark colours.

step two of creating my dress
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
once I had created my swirls I then pinned both my chaos and order side together to see how it looked, I also added the belt and shoulder strap to get a rough image of my design. for my order side I decided to do it black as at home we had an old double size bed sheet available, I decided to use it as It was more efficient as I already had it and I am up cycling it so its better for the environment. I wanted to have my dress fabrics in simple colours so that the two different colours did not contrast with each other and also I wanted the chaos side in a white fabric so that when I added all the different coloured embroidery to it it would look good. to create the shoulder strap on the order side I cut out two long strips the same size and then I sewed in black thread along all the sides of them to give it a more neater look.

step one of creating my dress.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
To start of I created multiple different coloured and shaped swirls onto my chaos side going all the way around the top half. I created one big one in many different colours as I felt like this was a good way to start the chaos side as it was colourful and has a chaotic messy design to it. once I had finished the first one I then sketched 7 different smaller sized ones on the side going around to the back. the colours of the smaller ones are all colours from the big one as I didn't want to do darker colours like black and dark blue for example as I wanted to the top half to be bright and colourful.

inspiration pictures
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
for my inspiration I looked on Pinterest at multiple different designs just to gather some thoughts, I then started to plan where I was going to place the fabric and how I was going to design my final piece

final piece fashion rough designs
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I created three different deigns all quite similar, the main thing that I stuck to in all three designs was the shape and style of the dress. I wanted to create something with a simple shape but on my chaos side is where it was not going to be simple and was going to be having a lot of different things going on. for the first design I created I had planned on placing the frills/ruffles separately and not all together and in-between them I wanted to created geometrical shapes to represent the maths side with a velvet fabric, I couldn't do this as the sewing machine I have is for lightweight fabrics and I also didn't have enough velvet for 2 sections with multiple shapes to fill. for my second design I stuck to have the frills separate from each other but nothing in-between them but then I realised that the dress would be quit plain and doesn't resemble any type off chaos, I also had planned on cutting out stars from fabric and sewing them onto the belt to show some type of astrology but then I came up with a better idea which I used for my final design. for my final design I kept the same shape to the dress but changed the details that were added. for the top half I wanted to add one big swirl to the front in multiple colours then on the back going round from the front Im going to do the same design but smaller and more of them in all different colours. for the belt around the waist I'm going to doing two different wavy lies going from a light pink to dark pink and for the other line the same thing but light blue to dark blue, all embroidery will be split stitched on. for the frills I'm going to do 7, 4 in white and 3 in black, under that I will create an astrology design that will be embroidered on

virtual chaos
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
To create my virtual chaos designs I took a piece of a4 paper and drew random geometrical shapes onto it, I then took some tracing paper and copied a few of the shapes onto it then I rotated the tracing paper and recreated the design at a different angle. Once I was happy with what I had created I used some water coloured painted and just lightly filled and traced some of the shapes in different colours just like how Diego Bellorins had done. This task can be helpful to use in my final piece as it could help spark some ideas for my chaos side as it is a chaotic design and it includes lots of different shapes, patterns and designs.

Virtual chaos Research on Diego Bellorins:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Diego is an Art director and freelance graphic designer originally from Maracaibo, Venezuela, he is currently based in San Sebastian, Spain. His work is influenced by architecture, mathematics and geometry. Diegos work relates to the theme of mars because his work includes math's and art, his work can come across to be chaotic as it has no specific placement as the geometric shapes are randomly placed. I really like his style as I like how he uses bright colours and it also kind of reminds me of the London underground map as the colours used are quite similar and all the lines.

mathematical grids
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To create my mathematical grids, I made two different type styles ones, for the first one I drew lots of different sized rectangles and squares and connected them all together, to finish it off I used watercolor paint in lots of bright colors to make it look fun, vibrant and chaotic, to give it more of a Professional look I went in with a black permanent marker to sharpen the shapes edges and give them a bolder look. For my second one I used to dice roll method to create an unusual shape and copied it symmetrically onto the other side. I really enjoyed doing the first one the most as I enjoyed painting in the different colors to the different sized shapes. For the dice roll method I found that one harder and not as fun as you had to do it in a certain order and couldn’t be as creative.
This task relates to the theme of multiverse order and chaos (m.a.r.s ) as mathematical grids included math's, the task was to create something artsy in the form of math's. The grids can come across to be very chaotic, for instance in the first one I did there is a lot of color, shapes and lines which can be distracting and a bit in your face. The second one can also be chaotic as its very random and has no order to it.
My first piece relates to Mondrian's work the most as they are very much the same thing with the colors and shapes, he was my inspiration so therefore the artist that I have chosen to research is him.

My work against Mondrian, research on Mondrian
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mondrian was a Dutch painter from 1872 – 1944, he is well known for the 20th century abstract art. His style is very simple geometric elements. Mondrian's art was highly utopian and was concerned with a search for universal values and aesthetics. He uses simple block colors such as red, blue, yellow, black and whites. I personally really like his style as its very simple but also chaotic as there's a lot of different colors, I think it's quite simple as it's in some type of ordered layout and not just free hand and all over the place.
