#Repost @themuseumofmodernart with @repostapp. ・・・ Marilyn Monroe died on this day in 1962. Her image lives on in Andy Warhol's work, from his iconic 1962 painting "Gold Marilyn Monroe" to these 1967 screen prints. Warhol used a 1953 publicity still for the movie "Niagara" to create these works. By duplicating a photograph known to millions, Warhol presented Monroe as an infinitely reproducible image. "Gold Marilyn Monroe" and the "Marilyn Monroe" print portfolio are on view now in the exhibition "Andy Warhol: 'Campbell's Soup Cans' and Other Works, 1953–1967." #MarilynMonroe #AndyWarhol #Warhol #Art [Installation view of "Andy Warhol: 'Campbell’s Soup Cans' and Other Works, 1953–1967" at The Museum of Modern Art, April 25–October 12, 2015.
