Lets start talking about essential oils. I will start on different methods for making them. The process of extracting essential oils varies depending on the type of plant material and the desired oil composition. The most common methods are steam distillation, solvent extraction or expression. Steam distillation involves heating the plant material until it emits its volatile compounds into a steam-filled chamber. This is then cooled and collected as an essential oil. Solvent extraction uses a variety of chemicals such as ethanol, hexane or acetone to extract the oil from the plant material. The extracted oil is then evaporated and distilled until pure. Expression involves squeezing the oily liquid out of the plant material using mechanical pressure. This method is commonly used for citrus oils such as bergamot. The choice of extraction method depends on the desired end product, the type of plant material and the availability of equipment.

Have you ever wondered how stress can impact your health? Today we’re talking about the link between cortisol and metabolic disease. Cortisol is a hormone produced by the adrenal glands that helps our bodies respond to stress. However, when cortisol levels are chronically elevated due to stress or other factors, it can contribute to the development of metabolic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. Chronically elevated cortisol levels can lead to increased appetite, resulting in weight gain and obesity. This, in turn, can increase insulin resistance, which makes it harder for our bodies to regulate blood sugar levels, leading to the development of type 2 diabetes. Additionally, high cortisol levels can contribute to changes in energy metabolism, leading to reduced muscle mass and strength, as well as increased fat storage, particularly around the waist. This further contributes to the risk of heart disease and other metabolic disorders. If you’re concerned about your cortisol levels or how stress is impacting your health, it’s important to take action. That’s why we offer naturopathy services at naturopathylane.com . Our Board Certified Traditional Naturopath can help you manage stress and balance your hormones, improving your overall well-being and reducing the risk of metabolic disease. Book an appointment today to take control of your health and start feeling your best! #stressmanagement #healthyhormones #metabolicdisease

Want to get stronger and build more muscle, but don’t have a lot of time to spend in the gym? Blood flow restriction exercise (BFRE) may be just what you need! This innovative approach to strength training has been shown to provide powerful benefits for both muscle growth and recovery. Here are some key findings from recent research: One study found that BFRE led to significant increases in strength among both novice and experienced lifters. This suggests that the technique may be particularly effective for people who are just getting started with weightlifting. Another clinical trial showed that BFRE can help reduce muscle soreness and promote faster recovery after exercise. This could be especially beneficial for people with chronic conditions or those who are recovering from an injury.  Yet another study found that BFRE can enhance muscular hypertrophy, leading to increases in lean mass and strength gains. This may be particularly important for older adults who are looking to maintain their functional abilities. If you’re interested in learning more about this innovative approach to strength training or would like to book a free 15-minute consultation to discuss your goals, please click the link below: Book Here

Protecting your skin from the sun’s harmful rays is important, but did you know that many commercial sunscreens contain harmful chemicals? Natural sunscreens offer a safer alternative, made with herbs and other natural ingredients. At Naturopathy Lane, we believe in the power of nature to support health and wellness. That’s why we offer individualized health consultations to help you identify the best natural remedies for your unique needs. One natural sunscreen recipe that we love is: Ingredients: 1/4 cup coconut oil 1/4 cup shea butter 2 tablespoons beeswax pastilles 2 tablespoons red raspberry seed oil 1 tablespoon carrot seed oil 1 teaspoon vitamin E oil Optional: essential oils for scent (such as lavender or peppermint) Instructions: Melt the coconut oil, shea butter, and beeswax in a double boiler or in the top of a dehydrator. Once melted, remove from heat and stir in the red raspberry seed oil, carrot seed oil, and vitamin E oil. If desired, add essential oils for scent. Pour mixture into a clean jar or container and let it cool completely. Apply to skin as needed for sun protection. This natural sunscreen recipe is not only safe for your skin, but also safe for the environment.
