Please donāt flex for social media. Did you know that a lot of people donāt have emergency funds or a savings account? Itās okay if youāre figuring things out, itās okay if you have roommates, itās okay if youāre not driving the latest car, and itās okay if you live with your parents. Itās okay if you work at McDonaldās. If people have a problem with that, tell them to help you instead of judge you. This is your comeback story. Donāt go broke trying to impress people who wouldnāt spit on you if you were on fire. I think youāre doing phenomenal.
I recently went to a high-end restaurant in Maui and was surrounded by wealthy people. It felt good! I need to make this a habitāgoing to fancy restaurants only. It does something to you and motivates you to improve your financial situation. I deserve this life.
Lately, Iāve been feeling extremely insecure, and I was wondering why. I was thinking about how Iām never pretty enough for anyone, not even people I considered lovers. I thought about how I will never meet the beauty standards of society and the Black community. I thought about how, when my butt is bigger, people are drawn to me. This includes women too, since women are usually the ones who body-shamed me. And if Iām being honest, the comparison messes with my mental health because why do I have to be as pretty as her? Why canāt I be pretty as me? Why canāt I have a flat booty? Why canāt I be skinny without anyone pointing it out?
I had to get myself out of these thoughts that arenāt mine. These are words people said to me; my insecurities were NEVER MY OWN. Back in elementary school, a teacher said I was trying to be sexy when I used to switch when I walked. Iām now 26 and Iām learning how not to walk stiffly. That messed with me. Once you realize your insecurities arenāt your own, you will learn how to take back your power and love yourself wholeheartedly. When I first started going to the gym, my goal was a bigger butt because I thought Iād be more attractive. Now, my goal is to better my mental health. I donāt owe anyone "pretty" because I am enough, whether you think Iām pretty or not.
You have to realize that many of these celebrities are all about performative activism because it benefits them. Being a millionaire, a billionaire, or even rich enough to own an estate in LA or anywhere in the world. Yet, you have the audacity to come online and ask ārichā people to donate or the general public to donate. You have to see through peopleās facade especially these celebrities. Iām only here for the ART, but many of them are just as selfish and entitled. Remember the Maui fire and how all these rich people, I mean, theyāre at least high millionaires or billionaires were asking people to donate to fire victims. When all they had to do was call their rich friends, their connections and come together and things wouldāve gotten done faster. The gag is, they donāt care and like to perceive themselves as good people. People are homeless, canāt afford health insurance, and are debating if they can afford to pay their rent and eat.
So yes, the celebrities we have like having power over the people, but they donāt care. Maybe that is why they were chosen because theyāre not as good as they portray themselves. But then again, itās no one's job to help, unfortunately.
But someone with millions or billions of dollars, they should be obligated. But you know, they rather play dress up and eat children. I digress though.
If I could speak to my younger self, I would advise her not to go to college and not to move in with her first boyfriend. Instead, I would encourage her to travel. While college has its merits, personally, I would prefer attending trade school rather than spending several years on a degree. Everyone's aspirations differ. Every day, I'm striving to establish a stable life in another country because I've grown weary of America. If I'm fortunate enough to have children, I'll urge them to live fully. They don't have to rush into schooling right away. I don't see many young black kids traveling because we're often encouraged to go straight to university. I've encountered numerous young Europeans, some as young as 20, who have visited more countries than I have. I'm convinced they're encouraged to explore life through travel, and many of them are still in school! Please, everyone, travel! š„¹
The problem is, we often wait until we're rich or have everything figured out to truly live. I didn't wait until I was wealthy to move to Hawaiāi, even though it's one of the most expensive places in the world. I made it work. Now, I'm excited to relocate to another country officially. But I say this to emphasize: if you wait until everything is perfect to fully embrace life, you'll miss out on its true essence. Do it now! Looking back, there are many things I would do differently.
If you're young and have a desire to travel internationally, I truly believe your first destination should be somewhere in Asia. The food is delicious, the people are among the kindest in the world, and it's affordable. I don't spend much when I'm in Asia; as a budget traveler, I stick to hostels ranging from $5 to $20 a night, maybe $30 for something fancier. Eating out costs less than $20 for a whole meal. Even staying for a month, I don't spend more than $1k.
If you have to choose between visiting Hawaiāi or anywhere else, don't waste your money in Hawaiāi. A day there equals a week and a half in Asia. Traveling isn't about splurging; it's about enjoying yourself and seeing the world. Don't wait until you're "rich" to do itādo it now!
