Look me straight in the eyes and tell me your current music taste isn’t what your father played in the car when you were a kid.
#I am not a habitual listener of the type of music my dad likes. I like it but I wouldn't say it's my taste.#I mostly listen to electronica pop and newer rock. my dad is essentially only into stuff released before 1979

It's a little surprising that the "Monday's child is fair of face" nursery rhyme never caught on as an arbitrary personality-assigner in the same way astrology did. It makes the same amount of sense.

I burned my hand but especially my pinkie and ring finger when I tried to pick up a pan last night that had just come out of a 400 degree oven. Now I can't play videos game. At least the chicken turned out good

"hey why are all the barrier garments like linen shirts or chemises or combinations going away?"
"oh we have more washable fabrics now! you don't need to worry about sweat reaching your outer clothing when you can just chuck it in the washing machine!"
"cool!"
[100 years later]
"so uh all of those new washable fabrics are leaching microplastics into our water, and the constant machine-washing wears garments out faster. they're also not really sturdy enough to be mended, so we keep having to throw them out and now the planet is covered in plastic fabric waste that will never break down. also it turns out that the new washable fabrics hold odor-causing bacteria VERY well. so could we get those barrier garments back please?"
"sorry babe linen now costs $100000/yard and since it's been so long without them, nobody knows how to adapt barrier garments to the current styles anyway"
"..."
"maybe try this new $50 undershirt made of Special Sweat-Wicking Plastic Fabric! :) :) :)"

Just lost a few braincells reading an nyt article about gen z "treat culture" and I can't even fathom that this is a thing. We're living in a dystopian hellscape where someone spending $5 a week on a cookie is considered a wasteful brat because they should have just gone for a nice free walk instead and saved the $250 a year that roughly equals four days' rent. That's why these ungrateful kids can't buy a house, naturally.
I am ALL for free treats, like hiking or reading in the park. But at some point you can't budget your way out of poverty, and you will literally go mad if you deny yourself basic pleasures that are literally all around you. They even lamented that little treats could snowball into doing something absolutely unforgivable like learning how to play the guitar or buying concert tickets.
At what point do we just start saying out loud that living an enjoyable and fulfilling life is now only acceptable at a 100k+ salary, and if you're one of the millions of people unlucky enough not to be in that category you should just eat dirt and be grateful?

Probably why I get defensive about this is that I grew up as a neurodivergent kid with dorky interests and a silent judgemental stare was something I got a lot from asshole kids whose explicit goal was just bullying the weird kid
So obviously if someone is being an asshole to you the deadpan stare is warranted. But nobody should be excusing antisocial behavior, and I don't believe in making excuses for it--if you're older than like. 15 you should be able to recognize when you're being a bully and work on yourself.

Like I need people to understand that everyone has different life experiences and might not know what you think is 'obvious'. It's actually okay to be nice to people and judging everyone around you as a stupid idiot is perhaps a mean thing to do that you should try to work through. Especially if you're over 20.
The people in the notes of that last reblog going 'uhh just figure it out! Stupid!'
Like just admit you hate autistic people and go

#sometimes people need clarification or help and there's no reason not to be polite if they're being polite to you!#the gen z stare is literally just immature mean girl shit.

learning that 1. there's a thing called the 'gen z stare' 2. it pisses people off and 3. it's just underpaid service workers staring at someone until they follow a simple instruction, has been interesting.
for example, the card reader says 'remove card' the customer goes 'it says remove card, what do i do?' then some underpaid 20 year old just stares at whatever twat just asked that question. apparently that's devastating for baby boomers and gen x'ers, and they're complaining about it. retail workers should be allowed to jump the counter and kill customers
#yeah I'm gonna be so fr right now young adults refusing to be kind or polite to strangers gets on my fucking nerves#there's this weird trend I've noticed on Tumblr where everyone bends over backwards to excuse bad behavior from younger people#and to be quite honest. it can just be antisocial attitudes. you're capable of being an asshole for no good reason#and crying 'ughhhh you guys are just being boomers!!!' when people notice trends and call them out is so completely obnoxious#it might not be intergenerational conflict. it might just be that you're being rude and people don't like it when you're being an ass.
