So. Aside from that SHIT ending, that was pretty fun. I do think it needs to be viewed as basically a completely separate entity from the books because wow do they change the characterisations of...everyone, basically, but it's enjoyable as its own thing. Like, if I completely ignore that Percy is, in fact, intelligent and Annabeth is more than a kind of pain in the ass know it all, their characters in the show aren't as grating.
I liked that they went more into Sally and the gods' complexities. The balance between trying to be good parents and knowing that your kids have to be prepared to literally defend their own lives. Poseidon, especially, was given an interesting depth in that his discussion with Sally in a lot of ways is written closer to his Roman depiction than his Greek one. It opens up an interpretation that Poseidon fathered Percy, but Neptune had a bigger hand in influencing his pre-Camp Halfblood upbringing.
On the other hand, one of my favourite things about the books is the friendship between Annabeth, Grover, and Percy, and the series takes away a lot of that. It's interesting, from a storyline perspective it works, but it's missing a lot of the heart of the books. The emotional pulls are all centred around Sally in a way they weren't even just in the first book.
I'll still watch the second season, I think I just may need to look at it the way I do Breakfast With Scot: the book is just a vague inspiration for the movie with a few of the same names and not much else.

Excuse me, no lawn ornament Gabe? Seriously? We just not going to address the fact that all three of them are wanted across the country? The hell?

I need Percy to stop handling Riptide like a claymore. It is a single-handed sword to be used with a buckler, you don't choke up on the grip like you're swinging a bat.

Lmao of course the only part of a car Percy knows how to work is the horn. Damned New Yorker.

Dying a bit at Lin Manuel Miranda being Haphaestus. Love that for future Leo. Lmao I can't tell H names from H names. Still a bit irked by the series making Percy dumber than he is in the books. It's such a common trope in fandom already and I just know this is going to make it so much worse.

Grover has by far my favourite characterisation of the show

Excuse me. I understand that you've stolen everything that was fun about Annabeth and given it to Luke, but do not take Percy's insta-rage at Ares and hand it to Annabeth. It's kind of a key part of their interactions for...ever, really.

Near perfect casting of the knitting Fates. Only wish they'd gone with hilariously oversized socks instead of 'generic knitting 457'. Like. Throw some ribbing in there at least.

I so far am enjoying Grover and Percy individually, but I feel like the way they've changed the friendship dynamics of the group really does remove some of the best parts of the book
