     She had been eating, gnawing on a small wafer of hardtack given to her by the fire-haired Overseer she had come to be be friends with. Her whiskers twitching with each bite and subsequent chew. Rat looked up at Carl when he said something, but she was too distracted to quite catch it. 

     However she was greeted with the soft touch of his leather gloved finger right on her nose!

     Rat sneezed at the sensation and dropped her wafer to groom her face suddenly as rats often did, making soft huffs not of irritation, but rather of laughter. As best as a rat could at the very least.

     She looked out quietly over the grey waters of the Wrenhaven, humming an indistinct tune that the bones had sung to her in some far off place in some distant and indistinct time. She rubbed at the smooth, flat stone in her palm before suddenly throwing it with a flick of her wrist.

The stone skipped twice before it dropped to the bottom of the river.
