My personal headcanon is that shadow is NOT immortal, but he has a extremely long lifespan and he should live for at least 2,000+ years.

I say this because he is of course, Black Doom's spawn, being a part of the Black Arms race. We know that Black Doom himself is mortal because he dies like, twice in the series, but also he's still 2,000+ years old. Black Doom, at least compared to humans, had a really long lifespan that could render him 'immortal' in our perception of time and age, and I think this should be the same for Shadow. Doom also died because of Shadow and not age related diseases and things, so we can't possibly know exactly how long he could have lived (I'd like to say at least 10,000, long enough to get to watch a Gaia Cycle before realizing "damn i'm old")

Shadow will just have an incredibly long lifespan akin to immortality in the perception of our time, but he can get hurt and he can die in that time. Sorry folks, that hedgehog like all living things needs to die sometime.

so now there's gaia energy to chaos and sol energy?

I think so!! My notes are quite messy but basically they are essentially the same power, only going by different names depending on the dimension that they manifest in. They do exist in all three dimensions that make up this tri-dimensional area that we focus on in this AU (RIP Gaia dimension because it's only a hypothetical), but are more potent based on the dimension that they reside in (Chaos dimension, Sol Dimension, Gaia Dimension).

I keep saying that they're the same thing when they're also kind of not? They manifest differently? Chaos energy is...well, chaotic. Sol energy is...fiery. Gaia energy makes you want to tear your hair out (lifey? deathy? idek anymore).

I'm gonna say don't worry about it i'll figure it out

I FIGURED IT OUT

AFTER POLLING MY FRIENDS WHO HAVE BEEN EXPOSED THROUGH SONIC THROUGH ME AND DISAGREEING WITH WHAT THEY HAD TO SAY I'VE DECIDED THAT NUMBER ONE IS MY REASON

Gaia Energy, like Chaos Energy, is actually a spectrum of positive to negative, so yes, you can have neutral energy, and it is with that neutral energy does a lot of the world's energy remains quite dormant and safe. It is the extremes of these energies that are the most chaotic and powerful. Gaia Energy is more separated into light and dark, but its still a spectrum, which each high energy organism (Light and Dark Gaia) having bits of each other's energy. They are NOT completely one or the other.

Therefore, it would completely work to have a bit of energy directly from Light Gaia to be infused with the energy of Dark Gaia especially considering how the laser from Eggman injured both of them to a extent. This energy ending up in Sonic probably is why Light Gaia ends up with his power locked away with his memories, and is only returned to him when he and Sonic are far into their adventure that the Chaos Emeralds are better aware of what happened and what happened to the Gaia twins. So yeah a bit of a rewrite, Sonic gets a bit of that energy taken out of him at the Adabat temple, which allows Light Gaia to return to full power (that would also mean that Sonic gets more irritable as a Gaia Beast in Eggmanland because the stabilization keeping him from going off the deep end from within is now external. lucky Light Gaia is there close-by during Eggmanland to help him).

you're trying to figure out why sonic is a wolf for dark gaia form?

YEAH!!! In canon the likely reason for the 'werehog' is that it's supposed to pay homage to obviously, werewolves, hence the wolf-like appearance. The writers and artists probably didn't put that much thought into it.

HOWEVER I am a chronic overthinker and I have set ground rules for nearly everything lol, especially the gods of the world. To start off, Light Gaia is the patron deity of mammalian creatures (hence why he is very mammalian in appearance, nearly always being depicted as somewhat fox like [in simple terms, his humanoid appearance is furry-like. I sigh whenever I remember this information]), while Dark Gaia is the patron deity of all things reptilian.

Sonic's 'Gaia Beast' form is mammalian in nature, wolf-like, but this is strange because the reasoning behind his form even existing is because of excess Negative Chaos Energy being mixed with excess Dark Gaia energy within him from the recoil of the laser beam that woke up the twins (does this make sense?). The main point here is that Sonic has DARK GAIA's energy, and Dark Gaia has nothing to do with wolves, they as stated before are the patron deity of reptiles.

I have a few solutions to explain why Sonic is werewolf-like instead of anything else.

While it isn't the majority of energy, there is some Light Gaia energy mixed in with Sonic, therefore leading to the more mammalian form. This missing energy laced in with the other energy could also explain why Chip ends up with missing memories, and why his compact form ended up next to Sonic in Windmill Isle after Sonic fell from space. This light energy cancels out the dark energy that would have caused Sonic to assume a more reptilian form and ends up bringing forth a still painful and terrifying experience but causes the form to be mammalian.

One of the main things about this AU (besides me overthinking and rewriting Sonic lore) is that Sonic is a human, not a hedgehog. Humans are warm-blooded mammals, and therefore are supposedly under the patronage of Light Gaia. That would mean that a beastly form would be representative of other mammalian forms (come to think of it my Light Gaia design does look rather wolf like? he comes across as somewhat cat like after all I was a former warrior cats artist. he's like a mix between a fox, wolf, dog, and cat. very iconic warm-blooded creatures).

The thing that happened to Sonic has never happened to anything or anyone before so neither Gaia twin can determine why he looks like that. He's just mean and scary because he is a 'Gaia Beast', and both twins are quite scary in appearance (especially perfect forms. i've been working on redesigning my perfect light Gaia and i've determined that if Dark Gaia is all tongue and all eyes then Light Gaia shall be all teeth all mouth or something like that. absolutely horrifying).

dark gaia and neo going on adventure as buddies like sonic and light gaia/chip when?

i saw this ask and immediately rushed to make a shitty concept doodle

instead of Sonic getting infused with (mostly Dark) Gaia energy and such, Neo gets caught in the crossfire, infused with (mostly Light) Gaia energy, and ends up falling down to earth where she meets Chomp, a strange lizard thing with memory loss who ends up developing a interest in freestyle jazz (who totally isn't a ancient god of the night and darkness)

Basically so what I think would happen is that Neo takes this opportunity to get back at Eggman for keeping her in a coma for a few months after the events of Heroes, but also because of her energy being more Light Gaian, she's obliged to try and be more heroic (it's scaring tf out of her). She turns into this 'Gaian Beast' (very akin to her Overlord form) during the day and is freaking out because she isn't really concerned about it? This feeling of nonchalance and indifference drives her to try and hurt others during the daytime, causing her to be looped in with the Light Gaia Creatures that appear during the day. The title of 'hero' is driving her mad.

I think the themes of an AU like this of this universe would talk about toxic positivity and how complete ignorance is hurtful, and that sometimes there just has to be flaws and negativity. It's a part of the human experience to experience highs and lows, because one without the other just causes pain. It's still about balance.

ANYWAYS THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE ASK!!!! I actually had a idea for a swap AU for a while now, in which I could totally do with or without my human AU (I just have more written down exact set down lore for my AU that helps me set up the rules of the world so it makes sense)

i should...draw gyre...I love lanky fish they're really fun to draw for me

Random oc fun fact: Gyre’s body shape is somewhat based on how I used to draw Salmonids when I was in middle school (I’m in college now for context)

I used to make them super lanky for some reason and I think a part of me wanted to keep a part of that with at least one of my characters. I think it might also be why Hoover has a dragon-like nose lol

Gyre being long and snakelike is an idea that actually predated the reveal of Splatoon 3 and king salmonids and all that. For some reason when I was in like 8th grade I decided that it would be cool if Stinger boss salmonids were super long and needlefish like bc of the pun. (Needlefish like the “sting” of a needle), and that idea eventually got reworked into Gyre being uniquely long and lanky as a Stinger due to being a failed Horrorboros

I admit I do like incorporating and reworking super old ideas of mine into my current characters. It’s kind of like a character growth thing to me idk
