at first I struggled on how to make this Leo distinct from the other aus floating around, but then I realized - fuck it, don't fix what ain't broke. the main distinctions are the knee and wrist braces he wears - averting the apocalypse takes a toll (and I'm lowkey projecting my own wrist issues onto him oops)

Usagi is forever my favorite dress up doll, and I realized I kept drawing him in just the simple kimono, but just because someone gets older and has kids doesn't mean they suddenly stop caring about fashion, so I sketched out some options

I wanted to nail down the kids' designs, since I felt like they'd been very 'ehh' until now, and I really focused on how they'd look when they were first adopted

I'm gonna be honest, Yuichi's just kinda here to be cute. I may touch on him more when he's older, but Jotaro is currently the more compelling kid in terms of story and dynamic with the dads

Do the Dark Turtles in this au have their own version of ShO'kanabo ?As if Big Mama could be "Darius Dunn" or "their creator" similar to 2105

Big Mama is their creator. She made them herself in the regular au.

In the turtle tots version, Draxum made them and Bug Mama adopted them.

There isn't a version of ShO'kanabo in the regular or turtle tots versions since the dark Turtles are more yokai than mutant.

Old TMNT Space Ranger AU Concept Art!

So back around the same time I made the original concept for the Dark Rise Turtles, I discovered a old pilot episode for a show called ‘Space Usagi’ that featured Usagi Yojimbo in a futuristic/sci-fi setting. I became enamored by the concept and decided to take some inspiration from TMNT 2012 season 4 and just make something of that!

In the end, I made the Space Ranger Au!

It takes the 2012 turtles and makes it so they’re kind of like… traveling “Han solos” just doing whatever they can to survive. Yes, they have a mission of locating a lost family heirloom after it was stolen and their home planet was blown up, and no it wasn’t earth lol.

There are some concepts that I want to change, but there are also some I really like!

Leo is blind, but has a device that helps him see through a method of spiritual echolocation

Donnie has a prosthetic leg.

Raph is missing an eye but got a robotic replacement

Mikey doesn’t have a missing body part. He’s just baby.

Another aspect is that I joined together Space Usagi cast to be almost a mercenary group that was hired to track down and capture Leo and his brothers. A fun back and forth that I really enjoyed exploring. (Obviously I’m sure the names are incorrect but bear with me, these are old drawings!)

I had some points and story beats, but I’m gonna scrap most of them and remake it from the ground up because I’m a better writer now lol!

Anyway, I will definitely redraw their designs to update them, but it’ll take time. For now, have some old assorted doodles I made of the au!

Tekku's name is just katakana, which is what Japanese uses for foreign loanwords

it's literally just the English word "tech" thrown through the Japanese way syllables are pronounced, it's not a direct translation into a kanji term like Nishi, Waru and Yasei are

figured you should be made aware that Tekku's just a loanword

I did some mild poking around and get this-their word for "electronic" is "Denshi", which you could use to reinforce the twin dynamic because they both end in -shi

It's your call obviously, just my two cents

Yeah, I had a feeling that their names weren't exactly accurate as I legit just shoved words into a translate app that wasn't Google Translate lol.

It was also like 8 years ago when I did this so I'm not super shocked they're incorrect.

Regardless, I am quite grateful you took the time to do a little digging to find a replacement name that still made sense and had extra little matching things!

Although I probably won't change Tekku's name as it holds more sentimental value at this point, I won't let the name "Denshi" go to waste as I kinda do like the matching endings.

I'll probably use it as a name Nashi used to use to get Tekku's attention for annoyance reasons when they were young but stopped after his eye incident in the Turtle Tots timeline.

ROTTMNT AU where everything is the except except

MRS. MORRISON IS THE GUYS' GRANDMAMAMA

The boys just drop in, help out around the house, Donnie fixes her stuff and Leo *loves* hearing her stories. Raph and Mikey are there for two things:

Everything's the same but they all drop in to play with a cat and hang out with a grandma

Who translates for Waru?

Was Waru 'passed over' as leader despite age because of communication issues?

They can all translate for Waru, each of them being able to understand his noises. It's Nashi who vocalizes the most.

Waru never was the leader, never wanting to be. Nashi was more vocal about wanting the role, despite him being younger than Tekku.

The others never really objected and Nashi got the title of leader pretty early on.
