I had a feeling this was gonna be difficult. Most things with Mike are. Here I am, coming all this way from the comfort and safety of my office and offering my help, but Mike just glares at me behind his glasses like always, outright denying me. I had heard about his little condition like I hear about everything else in my city, with my public eyes and ears plastered on every doorframe and in every dark corner. Michael's dying, with no hope nor plan for a cure.

Now, of course, I don't want to lose my top geneticist when we have so much work to do still, but what kind of father would I be to leave my boy under threat of something as fixable as death?

"So what do ya have? Alzheimer's setting in? Cancer? I take two chemo pills for my liver every morning, myself. Keep em in my desk in a little orange jar. Runs in the family." Reminiscing on the way the little tablets sound when they bounce against the plastic walls being pulled in and out of the drawer. The recent news about his declining condition wasn't going to change his mind, even if it was proven, beyond debate, that Alchemax had the means to... stabilise his DNA. Safeguard what remained of his humanity -- just in time for it to be sold and bartered with, on the chessboard of Tyler Stone's grand schemes.

"You're wasting your time... Ty." A hitch in his voice suggested a more familial namesake was going to be used, but had been changed at the last second. To Miguel, he'd always remember Stone as the man who had tried to make him an addict-- the root of all his woes to date, rather than view him as a father. "There is nothing that you can do, offer or trade, that'd convince me to accept your help. I'd rather die."
