“Whether I shall turn out to be the hero of my own life, or whether that station will be held by anybody else, these pages must show.”
— David Copperfield (by Charles Dickens)
This is the quote that was written on the chalkboard in Clara Oswald’s classroom during the series 8 episode, KILL THE MOON. Although Ms. Oswald was teaching Dickens to her class, I think that the Copperfield quote is just as relevant in Clara’s own life.
I’m sure that we can all agree that the tiny school teacher from Blackpool was indeed the “hero” of her own life. In this episode alone, Clara saved the Earth from total destruction (without the aid of the Doctor!).

In a later story, Clara would die heroically saving a friend.

Clara once asked the Doctor, “Why can’t I be like you?”
In the end, I think that Clara was more like Twelve than even she herself realized. I’ll bet Dickens would have been very proud of our heroine. I’m certain Twelve was.
