I know I've talked a lot abt how I think casting abusers as Evil Unhuman Monsters Without Empathy causes a lot of problems w identifying abuse and understanding how it functions but I wanna talk about one specific problem that can cause.

Which is that if you assume abuse is done just out of Inherent Evil and you ignore its utility in getting & maintaining control for practical, emotional, sexual reasons etc., you can believe your own harmful behaviors don't count Because You Have A Good Reason.

Like maybe you're being controlling because you feel insecure in the relationship and this is your attempt at feeling more secure! But that might be equally true of your shitty ex who made you send him itineraries of your every day and text him on the hour every hour so he "doesn't worry". And in both situations that's inappropriate behavior!
