"His final act... as the Symbol Of Peace..."

Once Toshinori's condition progressed, he performed fewer and fewer concerts until his performances were few and far between. Taking this as an opportunity to sully his rival's name, All For One performed the piece "Death of a Symbol" and spoke publicly about it being the end of All Might's musical career. While Toshinori initially remained silent, he took to the stage again when All For One made comments about Toshinori's ability to teach and the skill of his students, at which point he performed his piece "Final Act." This song consisted of the largest orchestra All Might had ever conducted, and was one of his longest pieces. This performance was also the first time All Might was on stage since his body began majorly deteriorating. Conducting the entire piece pushed him past the time he could normally handle, and the performance marked the beginning of All Might's retirement.

Zevlor and Elturel’s History

I’m mostly making this post in response to some misconceptions I’ve seen about Zevlor’s role regarding Zariel, but this can also be a useful tool to any fanfic writers or angst enjoyers that don’t want to do a deep dive into D&D lore!

Disclaimer: All of my information is sourced from the Forgotten Realms wiki. If you have a source that is known to be more accurate and possesses information that contradicts what I’m presenting, feel free to comment and I’ll go ahead and adjust this post! With that said, let’s dive in.

To preface everything, please remember that Baldur’s Gate III takes place in 1492 DR.

Zariel began as a solar, or more commonly an angel. Her main goal was fighting fiends, and she even trained Elturel citizens to fight them as well, raising the force known as the Hellriders. In 1354 DR, she took the Hellriders with her into Avernus. However things took a turn for the worse and the higher-up Hellriders ended up leaving, closing the portal behind them and leaving Zariel behind to become corrupted. I’ve seen more than one comment that Zevlor is a coward for leaving Zariel behind but let’s think about this. According to the Forgotten Realms wiki, tieflings live from about 90 to 150 years of age. 1492-1354 is a 138 year gap. At the most Zevlor would have been 12 years old. And that’s assuming he’s currently at the end of his lifespan, which he clearly isn’t.

Also it’s impossible for Zevlor to have been in charge because in 1444 DR it was discovered that the “High Rider”, the leader of the Hellriders, was a vampire. Upon this discovery, hordes of undead were unleashed upon the city. I like to assume that Zevlor is about in his 50s, and with that in mind it’s very likely that Zevlor was a child in a city prowled by undead. (He probably wouldn’t like Astarion very much…) He could have been orphaned by this occasion, or whatever angst I know you lovely folks can come up with. I’m not sure exactly when “the companion” showed up, but it was like a second sun that hovered over Elturel and washed away all undead with its light. And it did this up until 1492, shortly before the events of Baldur’s Gate III. At this point it’s revealed that “the companion” was actually an imprisoned planetar, handed over by Zariel in a deal with the High Observer. Reasonable Expectations for what Larian will add regarding some fan favorite characters:

I’ve been thinking about the requests for npc romances and I think I’ve got an idea of what may and what probably won’t happen. (But there’s always modders so maybe some lovely soul will help provide the stories we want!)

Raphael: Possibly a short-lived romance. I don’t think he would join the party, even if Larian had all the time in the world given that it would be very time-consuming to give an actual Devil enough of a redemption arc where he’ll fight for others.

Gortash: I don’t think they’re going to give him a romance at all but he would be so much fun for a dark urge-exclusive love interest.

Dammon: It could be really sweet to have a little romance in Act 3 with this guy, and maybe flirting in Act 1. I could see it possibly getting pulled off as it would be less work than some of the others. (I mostly want a Dammon romance so I can do a Karlach-origin playthrough Larian PLEASE)

Rolan: As much as I’d love to have this guy as a party member, he also has his own story he has to go through. I think it would be fun if he could be a temporary companion in Moonrise/the shadowlands though, since we already pretty much have mechanics for controlling him, and it would give him a reason to join the camp by himself. But he would have to leave when you get Cal and Lia back, so he can continue on his plot to Act 3. Then in Act 3 he has his own things going on so he probably wouldn’t be a party member. However I think a romance could definitely be slipped in, as an act 3 only thing like Dammon. And maybe Rolan thanking the player character when his siblings are saved /wiggles eyebrows/

Zevlor: this man’s story has been through so much. I’ve seen fans complain that his act 3 role now feels half-baked and yeah it does, but I completely understand why. As far as I understand it he has half an hour plus of cut lines from betraying the tiefling refugees — it is extremely unlikely that Larian is going to pull Glen back into the studio *again*. However, I do think it would be cool if they pulled the Zevlor betrayal back into the story, using those lines as a specific result of the player character’s actions. Like if the player character kills Kagha, then he’s convinced to follow his darker urges (ha, see what I did there?) and he actively betrays the other tieflings, but otherwise he is only enthralled. I would *love* a Zevlor companion, as we already have the option to invite him to join us, and of course a Zevlor romance would be the cherry on top. But as I said the amount of voice lines he’s already gone through, plus the fact that we could recruit him in Act 2, also he would probably need a proper arc in Act 3 where he rebuilds faith in himself and others… It would be too much work. So unfortunately, I imagine if we ever get a Zevlor romance it will be at the hands of dutiful modders.

However these are just my thoughts! I’m more than happy if Larian surprises me with Patch 8.
