As before, Sevatar carefully memorized the instructions. "Altani definitely likes you, Cedric. And I can see why." He told the younger Astartes. Keeping his voice soft. Or well, as soft as you could when you sound like an avalanche. A deep rumble was hard to soften. No wonder he spooked Miss Rose.
"Never lose those kind hearts of yours." He added. Watching Cedric intently.
Mirak nodded. "'S a good explanation." He was sipping his Boba tea, apparently liking it a lot.
Sevatar has fished out a couple of the pearls and crushed them before drinking.
It seemed the tea was a hit with them all.

In the operating room, Sevatar was fast asleep, making Rushal smile. Even if it was a terrible sight due to his ruined lips. 'Tell them thank you for me.' He signed, eyeing Lullaby. 'The real problem is when the ghosts start answering him back. They get...insistent.' The massive Raven Guard seemed to be on alert. His dark eyes going between Altani on the table and the sleeping Night Lord. **** Meanwhile, outside the surgery, a young Night Lord scout was hobbling into the clinic. Mirak had taken up skateboarding, which turned out to be quite difficult, if only for the fact he kept breaking the skateboards and hurting himself. You would have to be Rogal Dorn to make a skateboard that could withstand the stunts a Sevatarion would think was a good idea to try. Anybody who knew teenage Jago might find the sight oddly familiar. @bookandyarndragonwritesdark @gallifreyianrosearkytiorsusan @c-u-c-koo-4-40k , have at it, guys.

Altani looks mildly confused. "I love him, you just seemed like you could use something soft to hold." She lets her arm fall back to her side. "I'd hug you, but I can't get over there."

Sevatar is paying very close attention to Cedric's explanation, he's doing the breathing, and muttering to himself about the things he can see and hear.
Rushal is taking notes, signing 'Corax could have used this.'
Even Mirak has stopped struggling, watching Cedric. While he is not as familiar with the Sons of Dorn as Sevatar, obviously, he can tell from his uncle's body language something isn't right.
Being stuck in bed, Altani holds the Raven plush towards Cedric. Her back looks nicely healed, but she's not up to running about yet. Stretching out her arm is more movement than she has done since joining the Choir. Her thin arm shakes with the effort.

At Cato's words, Sevatar chuckles mirthlessly. "Fenrisian, eh? I have been called 'Night Haunter's dog' by my own 'brothers'.
Of course she would need multiple translations. Accuracy in translation is a complicated matter. Shakespeare was notorious for being a challenging translation to Nostraman."
The scent of blood makes Sevatar lose that train of thought.
Turning to Cedric, he is struck by the way he reminds him of not only Sigismund, but Khârn too.
"Did anyone tell you anything about Sigismund? I would be glad to share what I remember, as we were First Captains of our respective legions together."

At Rushal's remark, Jago actually chuckles. "Ah, the grandparents' curse." May your children be just like you, indeed.
Jago smiles at Altani trying to hold her toys and eat at the same time.
The noises he himself makes while eating his soup would be downright obscene in a different context. Hot, nourishing food. Which brings a host of forgotten memories to the surface. "Tastes a lot like mom used to make."
It takes much of his energy to keep himself from breaking down. He didn't really think he had many emotions, but they seem to want to make themselves known all at once.
Seeking a distraction, Sevatar raises an eyebrow at Cato. "Really? Would it be possible to see that book? Interesting coincidence."

Even Altani perks up at the smell of food.
Jago's stomach growls, but he gives Rushal a look. The Raven immediately moves to hold Mirak back.
"Mirak. No. That's Lullaby's food. You will get your own." That sounds like a promise.
He looks down at his bare feet, then sighs. "Does anyone have a spare slipper or sandal I can borrow? I need to teach my nephew a lesson for when he gets a mate of his own. Not to eat their food. His mother might show up and kill me if he gets the wrong ideas in his head."
Now that sounds a bit more like the stern, forbidding First Captain he was reputed to be.

Altani's reaction is reassuringly like one would expect of a preteen girl. 'Horses? I saw those on Terra when I was little. You have them ? When can I see them? "
Sevatar laughs. "You're better informed than me. I've only seen paintings and statues. When I was your age I was utterly convinced horses have eight legs and grey fur."
Which gets an odd look from Rushal. "My tribe had horses. I could ride before I could walk."
Mirak cheerfully responds "No clue what a horse is."

Altani squeezed the bear tightly. "He's cute. I didn't have any toys in the Choir. Not even as Second Voice."
More madness. An eight year old as the second highest rank in the Choir?
From the look on Sevatar's face he might buy out a toy store or three for his daughter..

Sevatar looks at Asariel for a long moment, then Altani nods. “He means it, dad.” She says with utter certainty.
Finally he gestures the apothecary forward. “I will be watching. But Altani seems to think you’re trustworthy.” He sighs. “Corswain would be so disappointed in his legion. But I’m not surprised that the same legion who thought an eight year old astropath was a good idea would turn on their own.”
He moves aside. Keeping a close eye. “May I have your name, apothecary? I am Jago Sevatarion, but people call me Sevatar.” He’s half expecting Asariel to not have heard of him or the famous First Captain of the Dark Angels from the Crusade era. These young ones seem to have more immediate concerns.
Altani for her part seems unconcerned by Khopesh's expression. "Can you teach me how to be scary like that?" She grins.
"Those Dark Angel bastards should be Night Hauntered slowly over eons." Mirak growls. Good thing Altani doesn't speak Nostraman given how colorful and anatomically impossible his rambling threats get.
Jago is having a hard time keeping his own nightmare face down as he listens to the Primaris Apothecary. "And they look down on the VIII? "

Jago eyes Grosk for a long moment. Wings aside, he does look pretty rough.
"Anrir, go see to him. We're fine here. He can't afford to lose his braincells."
There he turns his attention to Karslor. "If you get thrown back to before Istvaan, tell past me about Skraivok. I would have been happy to throw him out the airlock for being a creepy, traitorous sack of shit."
He grins at Khopesh. "You, I like. Where were you while the legion was driving me to drink?"
Mirak is giggling too much to fall asleep apparently. He points at Ghosk. "Easy to find which kid is his. Just look for the one who pops out of their mom saying "FUCK" repeatedly."
Which makes Altani giggle and mouth "Fuck the Dark Angels" under her breath. With more success than Ghosk.

"He's very silly, isn't he, dad?" Altani giggled.
"Yes, maybe those wings are taking all the blood that should go to his brain?" Jago grinned, kissing Altani's forehead gently, making her giggle even harder. Which probably was more frightening to Ghosk than being glared at by the Captain. That was just Tuesday.
Mirak laughed out loud. "Weren't you looking at my face? At least you're in the right place to have those wings amputated."
Rushal made a couple gestures that you didn't have to know battle sign to interpret as 'Nothing to do with me.'
"Ooh, hope he didn't break any trees." Mirak grinned at Cato. "Those things are expensive. He might need a lawyer."

Jago was busy talking to Altani, telling her about all the things they could see once she was more recovered. If there were any crows on Terra he could introduce her.
Altani actually looked more than a little teary eyed herself, looking over at Anrir. “I can feel my legs. And I’m not going to be stuck in the pod again.”
If either of the Night Lords got to a point where they could look into the room, they’d see their missing First Captain, shirtless, bruised, too thin, but very much not dead. Sitting by the bedside of a young girl, talking to her with a surprisingly tender expression on his face. Stroking her dark hair. Rushal was there too, but so was what looked like a teenage version of the Cap, being sat on by Khopesh.

"Probably a very good idea." Jago admits, looking down at the giggling Altani.
"I don't know what inoculations the Dark Angels give their astropaths. Better make sure my daughter is as safe as she can be."
He pauses for a moment, looking at Altani's smiling face. His affectionate tone was really quite surprising to anyone who knew Jago Sevatarion and his reputation for ruthlessness and lack of emotions. He probably didn't father Altani, but he's has clearly decided "My child now."
"If you want to be of course."
Altani smiles and pats his scarred cheek. "Of course, silly."
Mirak grins, half asleep. "I have the cutest little cousin."

Sevatar makes no comment on Rose's offer. Shifting a little in his seat, he turns his attention to the apothecaries. "I would like to request that if I have to be given pain medication in the future, I be kept in isolation for the duration. Whether I take the position of First Captain back or not, I know too many legion secrets." He grins wryly. He is notorious for never settling foot in the Apothecarion for a reason. "I really ought to set a good example for Altani and my nephew." If that includes not having to be dragged into the Apothecarion, he will have to deal.
When it came to his rank, he is still very bitter about how many of his so called brothers had left him to rot in a Dark Angels cell. Only to follow the traitorous, useless piece of shit known as Gendor Skraivok instead. He really doesn't feel particularly charitable towards the legion. Anrir and Khopesh being exceptions. Mirak too of course.
While Jago is thinking, Mirak leans forward a little. Eyeing Zandrius. "Rose is amazing. And if anyone gives you trouble she can go Evil Oinker on them." He loved that story from the moment he heard it.
Lullaby's joke about Space Wolves does make Sevatar chuckle. "You are very well informed, Lullaby. I can't argue about any of those. You might not be surprised at how many lightbulbs we lost on the Nightfall on a daily basis."
He freezes, hearing Altani giggle.
Khopesh solving his dilemma nets the scout a quick hair ruffle of his own, before Jago moves so swiftly to Altani's side it seems he didn't move through the intervening space.
"Jago? Still alive?" Hearing her customary greeting in person makes him teary eyed. "How do you feel, Altani?"
She giggles again. "Much better." Squeezing Sevatar's hand tightly. He carefully ruffles her hair, mindful of her injuries.
"Thank you." Altani tells Lullaby and Anrir.

Sevatar raised an eyebrow at Khopesh and Lullaby. Not that the other eyebrow would really move with the scar through it. "People eat fancy things like that on a daily basis here? It will take some getting used to eating like Fulgrim is arranging the meal." He honestly sounds a little bewildered at the concept of real food.
Mirak snorts. "Sounds like things haven't changed any in the VIII. Rations, Rations and more Rations." Sevatar chuckles. "Makes me miss the humble mushroom. Far more versatile. You can eat it, make alcohol from it, get high off it, poison people with it...." Which makes Mirak giggle.
"Put them in the boots of annoying 'older brothers'" the scout volunteers. The two Sevatarions grin at each other. Making Rushal shudder. 'There's two of them?' He signs at Khopesh.
